Absolutely Wonderful Apartment

We rented this apartment for 5 nights in August 2010 and found it to be everything we had hoped for and possibly even better than advertised. It was a gem, in our opinion. The location was excellent, on a convenient bus line, but a bit far from the main train station - about a 20 minute walk, not 10 minutes as advertised. However, the neighborhood was exceptional in all respects - good restaurants, a large supermarket nearby, quiet neighbors.
The apartment was extremely well-appointed, clean and very comfortable. It was a 3 story walk-up (no elevator) but the owner was gracious enough to offer us the use of his own apartment if we preferred a ground floor location. We opted for this apartment and were not disappointed. The living room and bedroom were both very comfortable and huge. There was also an enormous entry hall. The kitchen was quite large, too, with a nice selection of pots and pans. However, we could have used a few more glasses and a wider variety of dishes for better ease of preparing our own meals. The washer and dryer, conveniently located in the front hall closet, were a godsend. The only negative was the really small bathroom, located off the kitchen. The shower was really tiny but since we are not big, it was not a problem for us. The apartment had been recently renovated and It is too bad that a part of the kitchen wasn't used to expand the bathroom. Other than the small bathroom, everything about this apartment is a 5+.
The owner provided us with the password to his wi-fi, which was invaluable, as free wi-fi is hard to come by in Europe. He didn't have any tourist/dining recommendations for us and we never saw him. It would have been nice to have had some personal contact with him and maybe something in the way of a welcome basket, but this did not take away from our enjoyment of our stay in the apartment. I just think a bit more personalized service could have made a good stay even better.
Several good restaurants are close by and it was not hard to find a place to eat. The Bahnhof was a 20 minute walk from the apartment on well-maintained and well-lit streets. Once at the Bahnhof, it was extremely easy to get anywhere in Berlin. This apartment is not located close to hustle and bustle and because of that, it was a real respite from our action-packed days. We highly recommend this apartment and the location.
