Notes: Note: the Farmhouse and Converted Barn both offer their own kitchens and living areas with dishwashers, microwaves, coffee-makers, hair dryers, full satellite TV's, free WIFI, Dvd players and iPod speakers. The air-conditioning is in the upstairs bedrooms since the rest of the house stays cool due to the stone walls. 'Les Volets Bleus' is in the countryside, an easy 20 min walk from the picturesque town of Trémolat. There is a highly-regarded 'ferme auberge' (farm restaurant) is on the property immediately next door (a short walk down a country lane). It is open for lunch and dinner most days. It is very reasonable and serves delightful local cuisine. Our guests always rave about their experiences at 'Les Truffieres'. There are three additional restaurants in Trémolat. This is therefore an ideal location for either eating out, or enjoying a summer meal at home. A well-informed (French/English speaking) manager will welcome you and be of service during your stay, if needed.

Further details for this vacation villa rental in Tremolat, France

Philosophy of the owners, Bill & Janice: We are the proud owners of “Les Volets Bleus” and purchased and upgraded/renovated the property in June 2005. Although our home is in California, we have travelled a great deal in Western Europe and have rented many properties – some great, and some less than spectacular! We always appreciated cleanliness, comfort, good beds, furniture you could actually sit on, great linens & towels, appliances that really worked, and nice big wine glasses! After buying our dream home, our philosophy hasn’t changed & we have upgraded the standard of the house to meet or exceed the best we’ve seen. Basically, we have designed it to be the way we’d like it if we arrived tired and hungry from across the world. We appreciate the chance that you take when you book on-line and hope that what you see is really what you’ll be getting! We guarantee you will not be disappointed - in fact, most of our guests feel that the reality of the house far exceeds their expectations.

Personal welcome: We have an excellent local manager who speaks both English and French fluently. You will be met personally, and have someone to answer any questions and address all your needs while your stay at our home. Our manager is well-versed in the house and the local area, and is very popular with our guests. We also provide you with very detailed maps and directions before your arrival, as well as information on the area so that you know exactly where to find everything you might need: such as days and towns for the best local market and inside tips and suggestions from previous guests. We want you to have the best possible experience in this wonderful area of the Dordogne that offers so much in the way of scenery, markets, activities, food adventures, and wonderfully warm people.

Internet access: We offer FREE fully-functioning WIFI as well as free telephones for all our guests.

Other Activities:

Canoeing, wine-tasting

Another wonderful week at Les Volets Blue

Review Submitted: August 11, 2011 Date of Stay: July 2011
My family and I first discovered Les Volets Blue last summer and returned again this year. Everyone loves it and think we'll be coming back!
The family range in age from 2 - 70+ but there is something for everyone to do. My parents liked to sit in the garden, under the wisteria and read books. My neices and nephews absolutely LOVED the pool! We all enjoyed the night markets and were lucky enough to be there for the one in Tremolat which was great fun. Day trips to beautiful old towns like Domme and Cadouin were lovely and we had a number of good lunches out. There are lots of places to enjoy evening meals too. the highlight for us this year was Le Vieux Logis
in Tremolat village. The Bistro was also very good and the Pizzeria was handy for early meals with the children. We have enjoyed the nearby caves, kayaking down the Dordogne and plenty of Boules in the garden after dinner!
The house is immaculate and extremely well equipped. Thoughtful extras like a welcome pack on arrival, iPod speakers, plenty of hairdryers and mosquito candles were appreciated. Everything is so comfortable including great beds (better than the one I have at home!) soft linen, pool towels provided etc. The laundry room is also handy.
The house is prettier than in the pictures and the description is spot on. I would certainly recommend Les Volets Blues

Quintessential French Farmhouse

Review Submitted: February 14, 2011 Date of Stay: June 2010
I have been going to the Dordogne with my family for the past 20 years and have rented many, many places. This farmhouse is a perfect farmhouse just outside the very tony Tremolat, with the best restaurant in the area at the Vieux Logis. Each village has one main original farmhouse on its border and I believe Les Volets Bleus is the one for Tremolat. This large house on a huge property has its original rooms, stalls for probably goats across a large lawn, ancient water sinks, and those beautiful blue shutters everywhere. Incredibly charming and real. I really love that most of the rooms open out onto the patios for summer living. Great for kids to come in and out from the yard and pool area. The heart of this house is french country kitchen where we had the most incredible meals and memories. I also love that part of the house has a separate entry with its own kitchen. I actually stayed there for a little calmer space and gave over the main house to extended family and kids to use. Perfect for everyone. All day by the pool, which is nicely fenced, or eating, or exploring. By the way, kids just love all the castles and prehistoric sites.

I also want to note that while authentic and original, the property is very comfortable and luxurious. Lots of high quality linens, custom curtains and pillows, good beds, real glassware, kept up and very clean in a way that can't be easy in the countryside but Janice, who owns the house with her husband, does an incredible job. Couldn't ask for more. Do ask her for tips on where to eat and shop and visit. She knows the region well and seems to know all the vendors personally. Go far a field and see it all or just stay close and walk to the village for bread every morning, send the kids to town to the pizza place, or book an outdoor table at the Vieux Logis for a special dinner. Or even closer is Les Truffieres just next door for a perfect regional dinner in another farmhouse overlooking large meadow.

I wish you a great stay at Les Volets Bleus and hope you love the region as much as I do.

Charming French Dream Vacation

Review Submitted: February 9, 2011 Date of Stay: June 2010
Our family had such a wonderful time at Les Volets Bleus. It is the most charming and well appointed home, decorated with the most impeccable taste and stocked for your every need. I felt like I was living in a French country magazine. There was plenty of room for our whole family and the pool, grounds and badminton provided hours of entertainment - especially great for the kids. The owners are amazingly helpful and you don't even need to buy a guide book for the region because they provide so much great information on what to see and do in the area. We made all our plans based on their recommendations and we were never disappointed. On top of all that right next door is a 5 star michelin restaurant -- "Les Truffieres" -- with unbelievable food and a wonderful ambiance. We frequently rent homes abroad for our summer vacations, but this experience was above and beyond -- definitely a unique and "must-do" vacation.

A perfect French country farmhouse

Review Submitted: February 7, 2011 Date of Stay: June 2010
We found the Les Volets Bleus to be the perfect French country farmhouse ideally situated in the Dordogne for a long summer holiday. The owners have done a great job furnishing this authentic stone building with taste and comfort in mind (the website photos and description are exactly what you'll find). We loved that most of the ground floor rooms (kitchen, salon, bedroom) have big doors leading out to the yard and terraces allowing for warm summer breezes and easy in-out access for everyone between the indoors and the pool, garden, and lovely dining terrace. Each of the bedrooms is beautifully decorated with down pillows and comforters and high quality linens, making for some of the best night’s sleep we’ve had in ages. The thick stone walls helped keep the rooms both quiet and cool! In addition to the character and comfort of the farmhouse, its location immediately next to a small family-run restaurant (Les Truffierres) and just about a 15 minute walk downhill to the village (Tremolat) made it even more perfect for us. We had several meals next door and appreciated the delicious regional specialties, the affordability, and the warmth of host. A morning or afternoon stroll into the village for baguettes, pizza, a meal at the bistro, or a special treat at the Michelin starred restaurant made for such a completely sublime experience that we almost didn’t make it to all the wonderful sights in the region. We’ve told an endless number of friends about this particular place (and by the way, the warmth and helpfulness of the owners) and hope we’ll be able to return many times in the years to come.

A Fabulous week in Tremolat

Review Submitted: November 17, 2009 Date of Stay: August 2009
On our recent trip to France we travelled to the South West and spent a fabulous week at Les Volets Bleus in the beautiful village of Tremolat. Secluded and farmlike, the area is beautiful and peaceful, yet only minutes from the beautiful village which boasts a famous chateau serving world-class food, a village restaurant, and a few shops. Right next door to the farmhouse is the wonderful Les Truffiers specialising in duck (of course). Every bit as good as a Parisian restaurant its homely country feel and reasonable prices are unique.
The farmhouse itself is clean, well-appointed, stylish and comfortable, with beautiful French antique furnishings and best of all the best quality white linen and divine beds and pillows. The garden and pool are great and I must say renting this home has pretty much spoiled us for renting anywhere else, as usually rental properties rarely live up to expectations as this did. The owners have put a lot of effort into the home and made sure it lacks nothing that a holiday-maker would need.
The owners were delightful to deal with, and made sure our stay was totally hassle-free... can't wait to return!
