Situated across the Teign estuary from the seaside resort of Teignmouth and linked by ancient passenger ferry, Shaldon is a quaint village of rare charm. Favoured by fishermen and sailors, the riverside provides an ever-changing vista of maritime activity and includes a sandy beach.
A quintessential village green forms the heart of the village. Surrounded by charming cottages, it is an ideal place to relax and watch the timeless scene of a bowls match in progress. Every Wednesday during the season it is the setting for a '1785' day festival.
In spring and summer, the narrow streets are a floral delight with colourful window boxes and courtyard gardens at every turn. Within these streets are a number of traditional Inns which serve food. There are several Restaurants and Tea Rooms. The shops include a convenience store, chemist and post office as well as a local butcher and baker.
On the seaward side of the village is the Ness headland with it's gardens, environmental park and stunning views. It provides access to a stretch of the Southwest Coast Path. There is also a ‘smugglers’ tunnel through the cliff leading to another sandy beach.
Up river, the estuary is a haven for wildlife, particularly waterfowl. It also forms the starting point of the historic Templar Way trail which leads eventually to Haytor on Dartmoor. A little further away, the resorts of Babbacombe, Torquay and Dawlish can be reached by bus. By car, 45 minutes will take you to the wild beauty of Dartmoor National Park. Trains from Teignmouth or coach tours offer other means of exploring the Westcountry.
The property is on the ground floor close to the village centre. The riverside and village amenities are within a short level walk. The external facilities of the flat are limited to a rear courtyard with refuse disposal facilities. Free on-street parking is normally available within a short distance. A fee paying car park is within easy reach.
