Connemara Cottage Rental Photos and Description

Mountains & Lakes surround this 200 year old Cottage, beautifuly restored in 2004

Casey's Cottage is located in the scenic mountains and lakes in the surroundings of North Connemara.

This historic country house was built in the period before the famine of the Casey family.

In 2004 it was renovated CAREFULLY to retain the original features, including a thatched roof.

Beautiful, quiet and relaxing. The perfect spot to explore the Connemara area

  • 5 of 5
Casey’s Cottage is located in the beautiful rural village of Clonbur,County Galway and nestled between Lough Corrib and Lough Mask at the base of Mount Gable. A lot of love and care has gone into preserving the traditional Irish charm and character of this thatch roof cottage while providing guests with a cozy and comfortable place to call home. The owners, Collette and Gearoid, live next door and are incredibly friendly and accommodating hosts. An extra special touch to their hospitality is providing enough food to enjoy a hearty Irish breakfast. In the quiet evenings snuggle in next to a crackling fire with provided wood and peat logs while watching “Michael Collins”, “The Quiet Man” or another movie selection from the basket on the hearth.

Lough Mask is a short walk from the cottage along a single track lane where you can sample wild blackberries, admire wild holly trees, and be awed by the craftsmanship of the many centuries old stone walls dividing fields where sheep graze. The nearby village of Cornamona is where the 10km Siúlóid Bhinn Shléibhe-Mount Gable Walking Trail begins, a route that takes you along the old road between Cornamona and Clonbur. The road offers spectacular views of Lough Corrib and Mount Gable while passing farmland and the ruins of old stone homes. The route ends in Clonbur where you can stop in at the local Burke’s Pub for a pint of local ale, excellent pub grub, and a jovial chat with the owner.

In nearby Cong village, rent bikes from local entrepreneur Noel Mannion and enjoy a leisurely bike ride through the Cong Forest Trails to Lough Corrib and Ashford Castle. Upon returning to Cong stroll through the quaint little village and raise a glass in cheers at the Crowe’s Nest Pub to a day well spent.

The Burren and the Cliffs of Moher in County Clare easily provide a day-trip destination and a hike to the summit of Diamond Mountain in Connemara National Park is rewarded with stunning views of the coastline and the Twelve Bens. A drive along the scenic single-track Sky Road to the town of Clifden is a grand way to conclude a day exploring the Connemara coast.

Casey’s Cottage is a cozy, quiet and relaxing place to stay while visiting the Connemara area. The scenery, quaint rural atmosphere and the friendliness of the local people will make you wish you’d stayed longer and long to come back. Whether you are driving, biking or walking, pay heed to this advice, “Keep to the left and mind our sheep.”

Christmas in Clonbur

  • 5 of 5
A fairytale cottage in a warm and welcoming community! The hosts are so accommodating, as are the folks in town at the pubs. A car rental is a must in order to explore the area. The cottage was decorated for our Christmas holiday, and the Burkes left us gifts as well! We hope to return.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your comments and I am glad you had a great time, thank you for the U.S. Coast Guard caps you brought with you. I'm sorry I did not get a chance to meet you, I was working over the Christmas period (Retail) but maybe next time? All the very best, regards, Gerald.

Charming place to live sort of like your ancestors

  • 5 of 5
This cottage is perfect to give you an idea of how your ancestors lived--but with modern conveniences. The cottage is just as it appears in the photos. It does have 2 bathrooms, one being behind the red door in the master bedroom. It is tiny, sort of like on an older cruise ship, but charming. The washer & dryer are separate units (rather than a combo unit) & work well. The kitchen is compact but has what is needed to cook a meal. Note that the dishwasher is no longer functioning, so bring some rubber gloves to spare your hands when washing dishes. The coffee pot is one of the French Press style, so learn how to do that before arriving. The "king" beds are really more Queen size. There is no wifi at the cottage, but you can go to Burkes Pub in Clonbur, have a pint & use their wifi.
The cottage is about 15 minutes from the village of Cong, famous as the filming location for the John Wayne move The Quiet Man. Pat Cohan's Pub is still right on the corner. It even has a nook that looks just like the pub did in the movie-be sure to look at all of the photos they have posted. The cottage is a good base for touring into Connemara-which is just beautiful. Just mind the sheep in the road!
Casey's Cottage was a wonderful week. At night it is so quiet you can't believe your ears. And if you luck into a clear night, the stars are magnificent since there is little interference from street lights, etc. A great, quaint place to stay.

A Hidden Gem

  • 5 of 5
We had the pleasure of staying at Casey's Cottage in June 2013. Without a doubt this area is one of the hidden gems of Ireland. This lovely cottage is nestled among the mountains and lakes of Connemara. The cottage is located only a short walk from the shores of Lough Mask. Lough Corrib and Lough Nafooey are only a short drive by car. Each day we would venture out to all parts of Connemara and Mayo. The cottage itself has been remodeled with all of the modern conveniences yet it still maintains the cozy charm of a 19th century cottage. The owners added so many extra touches including videos, turf for the fire and enough food to help us enjoy an Irish breakfast each morning. The kitchen is fully equipped, and the oven was newly purchased before our arrival. For those interested in the pub scene the towns of Clonbur and Cong are a few miles away. Staying at Casey's Cottage truly enhanced our Irish experience.

~~OUTSTANDING~~

  • 5 of 5
One of my husband's favorite movies is "The Quiet Man" starring John Wayne and Maureen O'Hara. Staying at this lovely cottage made us feel as if we were transported into the film! The property is nestled at the foot of a large hill looking over a valley. A stream runs down below the cottage and a lake is within walking distance. Inside the cottage, the decor is warm and inviting, sometimes making it hard to go exploring the beauty that fills the outside. The owners were more than kind and helpful. A dream come true!

The "trip of a lifetime" it was!

The "trip of a lifetime" it was!

If anyone ever goes to Ireland this is the place to stay. For the residence of course. It is charming and welcoming. It feels like home as soon as one opens that wonderful red door. For the peace and serenity certainly. Everything there makes for calm and relaxation. Stress just doesn't have a place there. For the convenience surprisingly so. Everywhere we wanted to go was an easy and delightful drive away. However, more than anything, for the people! The human kind. (We saw none of the magical kind that we know of.) The Burkes are warm, reliable, intelligent and their smiles will stay with us forever. So pleasant. So generous. Go to this place to find the finest Ireland has to offer. Magnificent scenery. Legendary fishing. A picture book village with a truly fine Irish pub. Delicious food. Ringing laughter. And real Irish people who live each day with grace, courage, hope and more than a little wit.
