Aspra is a charming fisherman’s village only 15 km from Palermo; away from luxury tourism it is a genuine place, where you can experience the warmth of Sicilians and is a good starting point to discover our traditions and hidden places. The waterfront is a pedestrian area and there are many Italian bars, ice-cream parlours and the typical restaurants called Trattoria, with marvellous seafood and all kinds of basic shops and services such as: post office, bank, tourist doctor, chemist, tobacconist, parfumerie, newsagent, gift shops, supermarket and local special food shops at maximum 200mt away. Fish is sold beside both harbours and by the way..Palermo is only 15km away!! You'll find many historical sites and places to see in Palermo. With fine monuments, works of art, churches and buildings, tourism in Palermo is far from boring!

Easter in Aspra, Bagheria April 2009

wiens Norwich, Norfolk, UK
Review Submitted: May 7, 2009 Date of Stay: April 2009
We had a delightful week staying in Aspra over Easter - April 2009. We occupied the 'Sulero' apartment, which was a perfect size for two to three people. The apartment is beautifully decorated, very comfortable and quiet with everything one could possibly need, including fresh bread, fruit and milk in the fridge on arrival. Truly a home away from home. The location, a few metres from the seafront, with restaurants and shops in the immediate vicinity, is perfect.

Antonella, the delightful owner, is a larger than life personality, who whisks her guests off to Palermo on a comprehensive tour of all the known and less well-known attractions. Her enthusiasm for Sicily and her general knowledge is amazing. We discovered that Antonella knew far more about the Royal Botanical Gardens in Edinburgh than we did, despite not having visited the UK.

Highly recommended

A quality property

Review Submitted: June 17, 2009 Date of Stay: May 2009
We stayed in the upstairs apartment, Sulara. It is probably one of the best equipped holiday apartments we have ever stayed in, with everything from satellite TV, Toasters, Fridge and Freezer, Ovens/Microwaves/washing machine, A/C in bedroom, two WCs etc. Very well maintained and clean, two balconies to sit out on at night, with lovely views over the sea. We couldn't have asked for more.

The owner Antonella and her husband live close by and were charming and helpful and not at all intrusive, providing us with essential groceries on our arrival.

The local Pizzeria is fantastic, locals are queuing there every night, so you know it must be good. The town has all the facilities you would want, for everyday needs.

The only negatives would be, to go to the Western coast for the better beaches (North Coast is a little dissapointing), you have to pass through Palermo which is extremely congested a lot of the time. Driving in Sicily is OK but there's a lot of tailgating and the old towns can be extremely challenging, even with a smalll car!!
Aspra is very busy in the evening and parking is not easy especially at weekends, everyone comes out, to walk the promenade.
The stairs up to the apartment are quite long and steep and therefore not suitable for young or infirm.
That’s about it!
Highly recommended.

Great holiday

the tourist Norway
Review Submitted: October 13, 2008 Date of Stay: July 2008
Me and two of my friends went to Sicilia this summer, and we were lucky enough to stumble upon this great place to stay. The appartement was beyond all our expectations, with great a view, a lot of space and equippment, and a full refrigdirator. To top it of, our hostess Antonella and her husband Gaetano were really great, taking us sightseeing, swimming and inviting us to a real, home-made Sicilian lunch. Because of them, our encounter with this beatiful island and its friendly inhabitants couldn't have been better.

Sularo & Stadda Apartments - great holiday base

Jerry & Sue Sale, Cheshire
Review Submitted: September 30, 2008 Date of Stay: September 2008
After a week spent in each of these apartments we can confirm they are really well equipped including food basics and both have outdoor terraces which are great for evening meals and afternoon lounging. The most important thing however, is that Antonella and Gaetano are great hosts and this made all the difference to our holiday.

A + G will help you plan your trip, if asked, are well plugged into local events and visitor attractions in the area and can help you understand the local Sicilian cultural experiences on offer... or just leave you alone if that's your preference.

We had good directions & photos emailed to us before the trip to help find the apartment. We were invited to a welcome meal on arrival in Aspara. Antonella (A.) would pop by to check we were OK, no problems with the apartment, etc. and gave advice on request. Where one site we planned to visit would not be at its best, we were told honestly. A. joined us for a suggested alternative - a Baheria Villa tour - and translated for us. She also took us to see a local religious festival, as the Aspara one was postponed, took us out for a trip on their boat so we could swim in the sea near Capo Zafferino and recommended best routes to get to visitor attractions. (Train from Bagheria to Palermo is cheap, regular and far easier than driving – Palermo is worth 2 days’ sight-seeing. Take SS624 to visit Selinunte and see the agricultural heart of Sicily on the way. A map was drawn to show us the right exit off the Palermo ring road for our Monreale visit). They recommended where to eat and made reservations for us.

This is not a busy tourist spot so you get a real taste of exuberant Sicilian life with street vendors (bread, veg, fish) calling out every day and local weekend festivals in full swing in Sept. We found it easiest to explore sights to the east and south of Palermo as Palermo's "ring road" is generally a slow and frustrating experience to get through. Best time to travel through west bound was between 09:00 and 10:00. We flew Birmingham to Trapani and drove to Aspara - about a 2 hour journey. The Bagheria exit from the autostrada is pretty mad (whichever direction you're approaching from) so take care as you find the left turn for Aspara at the bottom of the slip roads here.

Top sites: Solunte, Monreale (fab), Cefalu, Castelbouno (Nangalunni for food), Erice(cable car trip), Segesta, Selinunte. Do Palermo arch museum after sites above.

Just the best holiday ever. Antonella and Gaetano were unfailingly helpful and friendly - you couldn't hope to meet a nicer or more hospitable couple. This is the place for you if you want to experience genuine Sicilian life, away from tourists.
