Photos and Description of the Varenna vacation house rental A comfortable villa with 4 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms, sleeps 8+2 (and more people)

Ground floor: At the garden level the hall is accessed by a large patio shaded by an old wisteria. A cosy living room with two white sofas, a fireplace and satellite TV has large windows that open onto the garden. The living room opens to a studio with a library. The dining room with a table that can seat eight has a large window with a panoramic lake view. The kitchen is equipped with a dishwasher. On this floor there is also a guest toilet. First floor: The first floor of the house has access to the terrace with lake view. There are three bedrooms on this floor: two double bedrooms and one twin bedroom. Furthermore there are two bathrooms on this floor. Second floor: Upstairs there is another twin bedroom with lake view, each bed has an additional pull-out bed (for children). This house is located on a hill 4 km above Varenna, in an estate with green lawns and olive trees. Varenna is built on a promontory and was for centuries a sentinel at the heart of Lake Como. Today it is a quiet lakeshore town of beautiful old houses and romantic panoramas. Olive and cypress trees testify to the mild climate of the area. A romantic walkway along the lakefront links the town centre with Olivedo, the landing point for ferries and steamers. Varenna is an ideal base for exploring northern Italy as well as the southern Swiss Alps. Less than two hours from Milan, Varenna offers many wonderful possibilities for daytrips. Explore the castle of Vezio (5 minutes walk from the villa). Visit the gardens of Villa Monastero, Bellagio and Menaggio (15 minutes by ferry), Tremezzo and the famous Villa Carlotta, and Como, with its historic monuments, churches, and shopping. About the region: The lakeside town of Varenna with its pretty and colourful houses is only 10 min by car. Here you will find a lido with lake access, shops, restaurants, the ferry berth and a railway station. Menaggio, Bellaggio and Como can be reached by ferry. (There is a golf course in Menaggio - 15 min by ferry, 10 min by car.) The trains departing from the railway station in Varenna takes you to the centre of Milan in one hour!

Lake Como is renowned for its exquisite villas, and probably the most famous one is Villa Carlotta, a perfect combination of a luxurious interior (beautiful stuccos, lovely ceiling frescoes and a great art collection, including an Eros and Psyche by Antonio Canova) and a luxuriant exterior (over 500 species of plants, trees and shrubs from all over the world). Tremezzo is another lovely lakeside town. Here you will find a classic lakeside promenade as well as many wonderful old villas, some of which have been converted to hotels. From here you can take a car ferry over to Bellaggio and Varenna on the opposite shore. On the southern shore is Bellaggio, la perla del lago (the pearl of the lake), considered by many to be the most beautiful town in all of Europe. Its narrow cobbled streets, breathtaking views, impeccable homes and marvellous villas make it a most enchanting spot to spend your own unforgettable 'month by the lake.'
