Places of Interest:
The palm fringed Balcon de Europa in Nerja, meanders through to the whitewashed pedestrianised streets. Numerous little artistic shops sell jewellery, leather goods and beautiful ceramics. Many happy hours can be spent window shopping. The stalagmites in the magnificent Nerja Caves were formed millions of years ago. The typical whitewashed Moorish village of Frigliana lies perched on lofty crags just 5 kilometres from Nerja. Take a guided tour from the square. Donkeys carry their loads through the narrow upward winding streets which are too small to take vehicles. The Alhambra Palace is only 1 hour 45 minutes from the Villa. It is the finest and best conserved mediaeval Arab Palace in the world. Water features play a large part in the garden architecture. Tiled and carved arches dominate the building. There is an interesting round Roman cemetery at Sayalonga, 20 minutes from the Villa. In Malaga you can visit the Picasso Museum, Alcazaba Fortress and the Alameda Gardens.
Beaches/Golf/Walks/Diving/Sking:
There are a number of small secluded coves 5 minutes walk down from the Villa. The main beach is Burriani. On Saturday and Sunday Paella is cooked outside on enormous log fires. Musicians stroll the prom playing their instruments. Further beaches skirt Nerja town. Baviera Golf Course is 15 minutes along the coast road. The back 9 are quite challenging with elevated tees and lakes protecting the greens. At present it costs 48 euros for 18 holes (half the price of Golf Courses West of Malaga)! Anoreta Golf Course is 25 minutes drive and Los Moriscos 35 mins. at Salobrena. The Tourist Office on the Balcon provides leaflets on walks in the area. Club Nautique de Nerja will arrange diving trips, mountain bike hire, horse riding, guided walks and jeep safaries. Sking is just 1.45hrs drive away, slopes are open Nov - April. Carnival time is Feb in Nerja. Easter-Holy Week. June 24 San Juan. NYE on Balcon and on 6th Jan for 3 Kings Festival. Other festivals are held throughout the year.
Eating Out:
There are 2 very nice Restaurants and a small bar with fantastic views from the terrace 5 mins walk from the Villa. The Thatched Roof Restaurant is situated right on the beach. There are many restaurants in Nerja Town. Some are set in Courtyards with tropical trees and gardens. Others overlook the Med. You can eat out very cheaply if you look for those establishments offering 'Meal of the Day’. The Balcon de Europa is the heart of Nerja and acts as a meeting place for both Spanish and visitors alike. It serves as a gathering point and many performers and artists put on shows and exhibitions, particular on Saturday nights. Have your portrait painted here or take a horse and carriage ride around Nerja before your meal. To the side of the Balcon is the XV11 century El Salvador Church, constructed in Baroque-Madejar style. There are many bars and restaurants in this area: Spanish, Indian, Chinese and English. Try the 2 kilometre Torrox Costa Prom with their numerous cafes and bars.
