grand villa (160m²) with pool, a few minutes from the beach

We have just returned from a most excellent holiday in Villa Roma Lajares. We found the villa spacious, clean, comfortable and well maintained. It had all the facilities we needed to make it a home from home and was very peaceful and private. We particularly liked the terrace by the pool looking out over views of the village and mountains beyond. Our hosts John and Sandy were very friendly and welcoming and took care of all our needs. We would not hesitate to reccommend the villa to anyone else.
Lajares is a well located small village with an excellent supermarket and several nice restuarants and shops. We really liked the Canela bar and the Pizza restuarant opposite the school. The beach is ten minutes drive in either direction and Corralejo, the nearby town with loads of shops and places to eat, again about ten minutes drive away.
There are plenty of walks you can go on although you do need to prepare for the heat. We can reccommend the 'Crater' walk which starts just behind the villa and ends up in Corralejo, this took us 4 hours. On the way you can climb up one of the volcanoes and look down into it's crater from a purpose built platform.
We can also recommend the Vega de Rio Palmas walk just past Betancuria where the scenery is unusually lush and you can walk down a dry river bed, past a reservoir, along the cliff to a tiny chapel that clings to the side. Here you can sign the wall or visitors book and have and look at photos and treasures left by other travellers.
Another interesting place we visited was the Salt museum in Las Salinas.
Our teenage girls found plenty to do, see and spend money on as well, but by far the nicest thing about the holiday was the villa. It was lovely to come home to after exploring, but lots of days were just spent by the pool doing nothing.
