Idea Base in Los Alcazarez

We stayed in Los Alcazarez in 2011 and liked it so much that we decided to return for a week in June this year. Having previously stayed in an apartment just across the Calle de la Isla de Tabarca that could best be described as 'basic', we decided to try somewhere more luxurious this time around - and we weren't disappointed.
The apartment is ideally located, close to three supermarkets and a host of bars and restaurants that line each side of the Avenida del Rio Nalon, a pleasant pedestrian thoroughfare that leads to the beach, which is within easy walking distance. Murcia Airport is less than ten minutes' drive away, so a car isn't essential - although we hired one so that we could get out and about during our stay. There is plentiful on-street parking, and we were able to park directly adjacent to the pedestrian entrance to the complex.
The apartment is located within a gated complex, so security isn't an issue, and is situated close to the pool in pleasantly landscaped grounds. There is a patio area at the front - ideal for sunbathing - and a walled utility area to the rear with a washing machine and plenty of room to dry clothes, towels etc.
There is a spacious living room/dining area (though we ate all of our meals on the patio), and the satellite TV meant that we were able to compare the weather in the UK (torrential rain, storm force winds etc.) with the wall-to-wall sunshine that we enjoyed during our stay. The compact kitchen was ideal for rustling up simple meals, whilst the air conditioning unit in the living room and the ceiling fans throughout meant that we were able to sleep comfortably at night.
The pool area was nicely laid out and well maintained, with a small pool for toddlers and a larger pool for bigger kids and adults. There was plenty of room for everyone despite the fact that it was half term week, whilst the fact that the pool area is situated a short walk from the apartment meant that we weren't disturbed if we wanted a lie in!
There are excellent shopping centres at San Javier (near junction 777 on the AP7) and just outside Torrevieja, whilst the historic cities of Cartagena, Murcia and Alicante are all within an hours' drive. As well as Los Alcazarez itself, which has a long, sandy beach and a variety of bars and retaurants, there are a number of other pleasant resorts nearby.
All in all we had a great holiday - it's just a shame that we didn't book the apartment for a fortnight!
