Finca Al Manzil is an extensive farm in the magical Sierra de Montanchez, Extremadura. The perfect summer holiday, spring break or winter retreat in the CORTIJO for 6 people OR Romantic BARN just for 2. Available for B&B when not rented. Walk directly into the Sierra on ancient Moorish paths, nature is a delight at any season especially Bird Watching. The houses are not too close, plenty of privacy for everyone, have separate entrances and grounds. Decorated with great care, a mixture of simple, good quality design with antique and ethnic furnishing, plenty of books for a good read on the patios and terraces. The swimming pool has stunning views of mountains and olive groves. There are 4 World Heritage towns within 40kms: Caceres, Trujillo, Guadalupe and Merida, all fascinating to explore, great night life and shopping. Finca al-manzil is 50acre farm of woodland and pasture on the slopes of the stunning Sierra de Montanchez,Extremadura. Has 2 houses for rental, the main cortijo and a converted barn, both are completely independent but are rented together. The cortijo has 3 en-suite bedrooms with access to covered terrace, a really spacious, double height sitting room/ dining room with doors to pool terrace and great view of the peaks of the sierra. The kitchen is carefully designed for happy cooking, also a large paved barbecue area off the terrace with wonderful clay oven/grill . Cortijo also available for b.&b. The whole finca is a world of its own with total privacy, peace and quiet, time for relaxing in the hammocks, playing in the pool or taking a walk up to our secluded olive grove on the highest part of the finca with spectacular views. You can arrange with us to ride our horses, take the donkeys for a walk, ride the atvs or bikes or just wander on the moorish pathways through the sierra

Finca Al-manzil is on the slopes of the Sierra de Montanchez , Extremadura/Andalusia. Exactly in the middle of the golden triangle of 3 world heritage towns, Caceres, Trujillo and Merida, 40kms to any of them. Nearest airport is Seville. Bird Watching national park at Monfrague. The sierra is a magical place, still rich in the traditional olive, fig and vine cultivation, also a sanctuary for wild life, walking and bird watching are unique experiences in our woods and mountain paths, views are spectacular in any direction.

  • There is a 10% discount if cortijo is rented for 2 weeks.
    Discount available for less than 6 people occupation
    Linen change once in 2 week stay, towels when necessary. Cleaning once per week. Logs included in winter rates.
    Rates for Easter, Christmas and New year €1600 per week.
  • Bed and breakfast rates are 65euros per night for double room with breakfast, minimum of 2 nights stay. (only available if cortijo is not rented as a whole)
    Dinner can be ordered in advance 20€ per head not including wine. We have a selection of wines from €5 per bottle

The finca is great for bird watching and has some very interesting species, e.g. bee eaters and eagle owl nesting. A little piece of heaven

If you want to stay in rural Spain away from the costas stay in Extremadura, if you stay in Extremadura, stay at Finca al-manzil. We stayed for 1 week during the summer and we had such a great time not only at the finca where everything was bliss but exploring the 3 world heritage towns nearby, eating at super restaurants. From the finca you can hike into the beautiful mountains, hire horses and bikes. We were made to feel very welcome in the cortijo which felt like home, very warm and lovely atmosphere. Not to mention the great pool secluded in a beautiful part of the grounds. The descriptions and photos are tempting but don't come near the real thing.

Finca al-manzil, a special place

A special place in a very interesting part of Spain. The finca is ideally situated right in the middle of the area with 3 world heritage towns, Merida, Caceres and Guadalupe.
These kept me happy, marvellous architecture from Roman to the austerely impressive palaces built by returning conquistadors in the 16th century. My wife and children also enjoyed trips into the towns more for exploring the shopping and dining possibilities. At the end of our excursions we couldn't wait to get back to the finca, the tranquility after the bustle of the towns. The pool is very attractive set into a terrace of the mountain approached by a charming path and with great views.
We stayed in the cortijo which was perfect for our group of 6. Plenty of space, furnished and decorated in a very personal idiosyncratic style which we understood when we met the owners Manfred and Pippa, great travellers, Pippa had worked on many interior design projects before creating the wonderful atmosphere at the finca.
I am not a bird watcher but couldn't help being impressed by the beautiful birds, bee eaters, birds of prey, hoopoes, masses of magpies with blue wings and an eagle owl up in the crags above the finca.
Loved the fact that the whole finca, both cortijo and other rental unit the barn were run entirely on solar power and the water was from a borehole, very pure.
Only small gripe was that the horse riding from finca was not available but Manfred kindly arranged an alternative for us.........apparently this is a temporary situation.
