This new villa in the heart of the wonderful village of Monticchiello dates back to the 12th century. Being one of the oldest buildings of the little town, it has been restored with antique furniture and according to its original style. Furthermore it stands under the main tower and, as a result, it boasts a breathtaking view. Finally, it let you appreciate the very peace of the place sitting in front of the apartment and enjoying its characteristic garden.
We stayed in this wonderful little villa in May and loved it. Monticchiello is situated in between Montepulciano and Montalcino. So, if you love wine, the location is perfect and the landscape is unbelievable. The layout of the apartment is wonderful for two couples. There is a bottom floor with two double beds and a bathroom with a shower. The main floor is the kitchen, dining room, and a bathroom with a washer. The top floor is a king size bedroom. The backyard is so relaxing to drink a bottle of wine with your friends and hear the church bells ring. The apartment and the village are extremely old and have a relaxing atmosphere and the people are warm. Barbara, the owner of this home, is an amazing woman. She gave us tips, made us feel at home, and led us to her friends vinyard for an amazing wine tour! You must try the restaurant, La Porta, at the gate entrance. The food is delicious and the owner, Daria, and staff are gracious. You can use her wifi to keep in touch with home. We can't wait to return and will most certainly rent this apartment again!
We returned to stay here in November 2010 for our 4th visit! We have also previously stayed in the other apartment owned by the lovely owner (Barbara) and it is impossible to praise the accommodation highly enough. Everything has been thought about to make your stay perfect in everyway and nothing is too much trouble for Barbara and her extremely kind family who genuinely care that their visitors have the best possible holiday. Highly, highly recommended.
We rented Le Maribelle 2 for the first week of October and couldn't have been happier with our choice. There were 4 of us in our early 60's and we felt very comfortable in this apartment. The village was so charming and clean, and having the two restaurants in town was convenient after long days of climbing the hill towns since we did not want to go out driving at night on those twisty roads. Barbara, our host, was so friendly and accommodating! We noticed that the porch lights weren't working and there were no wine glasses and that very same day she had the lights fixed and brought over wine glasses. Wow! Now that is really personal service. The best part of our trip was the tour of a small family owned winery that Barbara arranged for us. It was fascinating to see how the small winerys still age and bottle their wines. Yikes! Good mold on the walls in the cellars! Who would have guessed?
I highly recommend this apartment but not for those who would have a hard time climbing steep hills and lots of steps. We sure got a work-out every day touring the hill towns. Thanks, Barbara, you were the perfect hostess!
HA SIDO EXTRAORDINARIAMENTE GRATO EL DISFRUTAR ALGUNOS DIAS EN ESE BELLISIMO LUGAR LLAMADO MONTICHIELO, LA EXTRAORDINARIA VISTA DEL VALLE, LA HISTORIA MEDIEVAL, LA AMABILIDAD DE LAS PERSONAS. FUE UNA EXPERIENCIA EXTRAORDINARIAMENTE GRATA.
INDUDABLEMENTE LA REPETIRÈ.
ITALIA ES UN PAIS QUERIDO POR MI.
Le Maribelle 3 is located in Montichiello, a small village between Pienza and Montepulciano, in one of the most beautiful parts of the Crete Senese region. There is a small alimentari within a 5-10 minute walk, and supermarkets in Pienza and Montepulciano, about 20 minutes away by car. There are a few restaurants in town, including Osteria La Porta, which has good food, friendly service, and an outside terrace with an excellent view, and La Taverna di Moranda, which is a superb but reasonably priced restaurant with some of the best food I've eaten in Italy.
Le Maribelle 3 consists of two separate apartments, which may be rented individually or as a unit. (Those with small children should note that the two units are not internally connected.) The apartments are in a medieval stone building, but have been renovated in a modern style. The lower apartment consists of a single room with two beds and a curtained-off shower/toilet area, and the upper apartments has a lower floor with well equipped kitchen, dining room, and a separate toilet/bathroom, and an upper floor with a single large bedroom. We did not use the lower apartment, but found the upper one to be very comfortable and spacious, adequate for two adults and two young children. The truly outstanding aspect of the upper apartment is a small private garden at the rear. It includes a garden table and chairs under a tree, and is a very pleasant place to enjoy breakfast or dinner.
I have no hesitation in recommending this apartment, and would certainly stay here again.
My adult daughter and I spent a week in Toscany last September. We were referred to Maribella by another family member who travels to Italy annually. The apartment was the perfect set up for the two of us. I stayed on the 2nd and 3rd floors which consisted of a kitchen/dining area, bath and a huge upstairs bedroom, and leaving my daughter with her own space (bedroom and bath) on the ground floor. The apartment was very appropriately decorated in what appeared to be Italian antiques. The beds were extremely comfortable. We even had a small backyard where we could sit and drink our morning expresso. Barbara, the owner, is delightful and made sure we were comfortable during our stay.
The town of Montechello is very small, and by the second day, everyone in the villiage knew who we were. The villiagers were very friendly, particularly in the community center which is staffed daily and provides information, pamphlets and maps of the region. The Center also provides free internet access. While the villiage of Montechello is very small (you will see every point of interest within about 30 minutes) it is very centrally located and with in very short reach of the larger, more well known Toscany hill towns, such as Pienza and Montepulciano (bring study shoes - lots of cobblestones). A slightly longer drive will take you to Siena or Perugia (where you can tour the famous chocolate factory) or to Assisi (actually in Umbria) to visit the home of St Francis.
This property was recommended to me and not only would I recommend it to friends, I have every intention of returning myself.
The village is located in natural and artistic park of Valdorcia in Unesco's Heritage.
