Guestbook comments from the owner
Dear Nigel

The holiday was very much to our liking, just as in past years, thank you very much. There is only one negative that I can think of and that concerns the new bathroom towels. The older orange ones are just fine, but the two new ones, (turquoise and pink I think), just seem to slide the water around one's skin and not absorb it. As you can see, I am desperately clutching at straws to find anything negative!

On the plus side, La Voila is a nice size for two to four. Inside stays beautifully cool and the terrace by the french (literally) windows provides a shady place to sit when the sun gets too hot. The revision of the sitting area round the pool is a great success as is the new bed; very comfortable. The flyscreens are a great idea as we seem to taste good to mosquitoes.

The location so close to the centre of the village with its canal towpaths and very reasonably priced restaurants is another pluspoint, along with the fact that they serve 'real' French food. We find that often the food in higher priced restaurants in France closely resembles that of restaurants in Belgium, Holland, Germany and the UK. I suppose our tastes stem from growing up in the 60s on a diet of bistro and traditional French country food.

In summary, the plusses greatly outweigh the one minus, which is why we keep coming back!

Best regards,

Fred.

LA VOILA - SOMETHING FOR EVERYONE!

  • 5 of 5
We have had a wonderful, relaxing time at La Voila. We were very late arriving at the villa but still received a warm welcome from Jason and Lorna who were very friendly and helpful. The villa has everything you could possibly need and is spotlessly clean. It has the most comfy beds we have ever slept on whilst on holiday. The villa is very private with restaurants, wine chateaux, grocery cabin and the canal du midi within a two minute walk - best of both worlds.

There is loads of information at the villa to point you in the right direction for markets, sightseeing, beaches etc, all of which are only a short drive away. We were lucky to visit at 'music festival' time' so really enjoyed sampling local music - great atmosphere! Also took advantage of local cycle hire 'mellow velo' - excellent service! There is also a good selection of books and games to keep you occupied and the table tennis gave an opportunity to cool down in the shade when temperatures soared.

La Voila is an ideal place to stay, it is close to many beautiful beaches, amazing chateauxs and medieval fortresses, busy towns, beautiful countryside, as well as the canal du midi - something for everyone!

We would highly recommend a stay at La Voila and hope to return in the not too distant future. Thanks Nigel.

ps the canal was perfect for the boys to run along - plenty of shade!

THE PERFECT RURAL SETTING

  • 5 of 5
Just returned from a fabulous week in this lovely villa. It is a fantastic and comfortable property and in a delightful part of France that we had never been to before and now we love it. Walking along the canal in the early morning sun was stunning.

The villa is very well equipped and is literally a stones throw from the Canal du Midi and in the middle of a wine growing region and the wine is very very nice!

We thank Nigel and Sue for letting us stay in this wonderful villa and we hope to return in the not too distant future to explore the area further.

We would definitely recommend this property to friends and family.

Owner's Response: Thank you Peter & Jane.

Really pleased you enjoyed your stay at La Voila. We were there the week before and like you, had glorious weather. Hope you partook of the fruit from the aple tree. If you ever go in June you'll be able to pick cherries.

GREAT TIME IN A REAL HOME FROM HOME

  • 5 of 5
Nigel/Sue,

We meant to put this review in when we returned. Just to say we had a fantastic time at La Voila last August.

The Villa was a real home from home, with everything we would need to enjoy our holiday.

The village, including the people in it, was fantastic and a great base for exploring with a lot to see within a 1/2 hr drive. (and the rose you recommended was excellent and great value a £1/litre)

We would certainly look forward to a return visit sometime in the future.

Best regards

SEPTEMBER IN VENTENAC

  • 5 of 5
I will start by saying that we were so impressed by our stay in Ventenac that we are now in the process of rebooking for next year so as you can see we would have no hesitation in recommending the property if a visit to this area is on your agenda.

Details provided by the owners and on the web site were accurate and the property was as we expected on arrival. The only point missing on the web site was that we were to experience 21 days of glorious weather which allowed us to enjoy all that the area had to offer.

On arrival we were met by Malcolm who took time to explain the workings of the house and at the same time impart some of his local knowledge to us which proved most helpful at the start of our visit.

Aside from the two local restaurants, canal side bakery and excellent wine chateau, many other attractions are within cycle/ walking distance. The area surrounding the Canal-du-Midi is delightful and many more canal side restaurants are close by where lunch/dinner can be taken whilst watching the canal traffic making leisurely progress.

For a change of scenery and pace, Carcassonne, Narbonne and the Mediterranean beaches are easily reached from Ventenac indeed a visit to Spain is comfortably achievable for a day trip. However it was always nice to get back to Ventenac and relax at the property with the local restaurants only a short stroll away.

All in all an excellent way to spend three weeks in September!

BOOKING FOR A THIRD YEAR!!

  • 5 of 5
Dear Nigel and Sue,
We have just returned to not so sunny Co. Down after our second visit to Villa Voila in Ventenac. Delighted to say, another fantastic holiday! Ventenac is a charming village, the locals are very welcoming. The lovely thing is that everything is within walking distance - fresh bread, wine, the Canal du Midi and superb food at the Grillade du Chateau. It would be possible to have a great time without leaving the village! That said, it's the perfect base from which to explore the surrounding area - there is so much to see! We are keen cyclists and found that this was a great way to explore. The house itself is ideal for one family. It is a home from home, comfortable, well-furnished and very well equipped. Consequently, we have booked for the third consecutive year and are already looking forward to our next visit!
Many thanks, David, Moe, Katie and Fiona

A WEEK IN SEPTEMBER

  • 5 of 5
Stayed at Ventenac second week of September 2008: too late for home grown cherries, but just right for the plentyful supply of apples and fresh figs from the trees in the garden! The weather was excellent for sightseeing and there is plenty to see; Narbonne (15Km), Carcassonne (50Km), the famous abbey at Fontfroide (20m) and the beautiful riverside village and boating at Le Somail (8Km). Only a few mintues walk from the villa to the Cave (quite good wine at 1 euro/litre - a little more if you want to go "up market"), good inexpensive restaurant by the river and the riverside cabin for breakfast croissant.
Well equiped accommodation, charming location - strongly recommended.

La Voila is situated in the small village of Ventenac-en-Minervois which is easily accessed from a range of international airports; Toulouse (90 mins.), Carcassonne (45 mins.), Montpellier (90 mins.), Perpignan (60 mins.), Gerona (2 hrs.) and Barcelona (3 hrs). With Airport car hire, it couldn't be simpler! Ryanair & others offer discount fares to all these airports and we particularly recommend the trip from Girona serviced by most airlines at competitive prices from all points in the UK. New routes Liverpool to Carcassonne, BMIBaby Manchester to Perpignan, Ryanair Doncaster & Leeds to Girona.

By car, Ventenac-en-Minervois is located 20 minutes drive from the A9 auto route at Narbonne. From the west (Toulouse, Carcassonne etc), use the A61 auto route. Full details and directions will accompany your booking confirmation.

Other Activities: sightseeing in the historic Cathar region, canal boat hire/trips, bike hire

Ski: Skiing is just about possible for the odd day in the season, but the the nearest slopes at Les Angles are a 3 hour drive.
