Our house has until recently been owned by generations of the same Kefalonian family and is situated in the historic hilltop village of Kastro, the ancient capital of the island, and a stone's throw from the Venitian fortress of St George. The house has two spacious air-conditioned double bedrooms, one opening onto a terrace shaded by a mature vine, a large living room with CD player leading through to the kitchen which has a fridge freezer, full size hob and combination microwave oven and grill and a dining area with an old farmhouse table which will seat 8. There is also a unique architect designed bathroom with utiliy space housing washing machine. There are terraces at the rear of the house for dining, sunbathing or to wind down with an evening drink while enjoying the fabulous view of the south of the island and out to sea to Zakynthos.

The village of Kastro is tiny with a handful of year-round residents but proudly boasts one taverna serving local dishes and wines and a delightful cafe adjacent to the castle, famous for its welcome and homemade food. The village wakes to the sound of cicadas under the vines and the arrival of the bread man making his deliveries. If you wave at the gate you can buy freshly made bread from the back of his van and our next door neighbour will be pleased to sell you his own honey. The views from here are truly wonderful with fantastic walks all around the area: the landscape varying from gentle rolling hillsides to the rugged slopes of Mount Aenos. Argostoli, where you will find everything you could need, is a 15 minute drive. There is an excellent market and you can buy fish straight from the boats. We are lucky to have the best beaches in Kefalonia to choose from, both St Thomas and Avithos are 10 minutes away. The house is a 20 minute drive from the airport.

Notes: The house comfortably accommodates 5 people with ample storage and wardrobe space. The original terrazzo and tiled floors and high wooden ceilings give a feeling of light and spaciousness throughout and each of the rooms at the rear of the house has French windows opening onto terraces - you can even step straight out of the shower and dry off in the sun! The two double bedrooms are air-conditioned. The main bedroom has views to Zakynthos and the twin bedroom has a view from the side window up to the castle of St. George. We have tried to include the comforts of home, for instance, there is a mainly jazz and classical CD collection for you to enjoy and the kitchen is well equipped and includes a large collection of crockery, cutlery and glasses and most equipment you may need during your stay.
