A COZY COTTAGE-MARSHVIEW,2 DOCKS,PRIVATE POOL, BEACH 6 MILES

St. Helena Island Cottage Rental Photos and Description

Cottage, 1 Bedroom + Convertible bed(s), 1 Bath, (Sleeps 4)

Deep in the heart of the barrier islands - St. Helena an area rich with Gullah Culture, low country plantations, seafood festivals, and Civil War history. Come enjoy a uniqueness you will treasure forever. Carriage tours through Beaufort, South Carolina's second oldest city, seafood fresh off the shrimp boats, scenes from Pat Conroy's books. It is all here in the Low Country.

A cozy guest cottage located on two wooded acres shaded by huge live oaks and cooled by gentle marsh breezes. From the screened porch one can see a small marina across the water. Park like grounds with 300'marsh frontage lead to the crabbing dock where you might see dolphin swim by. A new addition is the 589ft dock for fishing or relaxing in the hammock catching the breeze. All just steps from your private pool and front door. PERFECT FOR A TWOSOME OR SMALL FAMILY.( Children over 10 yrs welcome )-

Pets, too, enjoy their vacation with family. They have full run of 2 (two) fenced acres. Need to walk your dog in the early morning?? Just open the door and let him/her out. Unlike the gated communities- DATAW ISLAND,HARBOR ISLAND and FRIPP ISLAND -where they have STRICT leash laws your FIDO can run, play and be a DOG here. What a life !!!! FYI a pet door was added NOV 2009.

Comfortable furnishings in this cozy, well maintained, guest cottage have you feeling right at home. The recliner is sure to lull you to sleep while watching your favorite movie on the DVD. Or perhaps sitting in the living room with the glass sliding pocket doors fully open to the porch will capture all the fresh air and sounds.

If you enjoy awakening to glorious sunrises, seeing the moon's reflection on the water, listening to the marsh night creatures, or dining poolside... THIS IS THE COTTAGE FOR YOU. Relaxing, scenic, and private, 'It's difficult to tear oneself away from this setting', I have been told. HONEYMOONERS TAKE NOTICE.... IT IS SPECIAL !!!!

Beaufort with its interesting shops and galleries is 12 miles away and Hilton Head,Savannah, and Charleston are nearby for day trips of sightseeing.

Have you ever eaten a Shrimpburger??? Beaufort area is famous for them. Try the Shrimp Shack ,casual and fun....Panini's-Bay St, Italian food...Plums great crabcakes...Boondocks nightly specials ...Foolish Frog's steaks and chops.... Saltus- Wren and Breakwater , all 3 lovely and elegant for fine dining. And we have the Shrimp Festival in season.

For the athletic types - Running, Walking, and Biking are perfect with low country flatness. Great for cyclists ...there is an active bicycle club on the island. Golfers have a choice of five semi-private courses within 20 minutes of the cottage. (Our private courses are open to reciprocal members with a call from your Head Pro). And Hilton Head, just 45 minutes away, abounds with golf courses.

St Helena Island and the Low Country offer something for everyone. Call now for reservations. Gay friendly

Presently working part time in a golf Pro Shop at a nearby Gated Community. Previously flew internationally as a Flight Attendant for 30 years with PAN AMERICAN AIRWAYS. Also had a private pilot license and flew our 114 Rockwell Commander , along with my husband,to various locations for dinner , golf, and vacations. My life now revolves around my 5 rescued dogs (of various breeds) and the COZY COTTAGE. I also have a rental unit in the North Carolina Mountains.

The Owner purchased this cottage in 1992

My husband and I retired from the Pocono Mtns of Penna to the Low Country of South Carolina where we enjoyed golf and warmer weather. We bought our 2 acre property because of the magnificent live oak trees and marsh view. The home is a true low country design including a metal roof and then he built a matching guest cottage to accomodate our visiting family members. We loved the charm of nearby Beaufort and the proximity of Charleston and Savannah.

The luxury of privacy and quietness which is unique these days !!! The pool and courtyard area are for your use exclusively as well as the docks. Crabbing from the docks has been extremely good this year. If you have a boat there is a floating dock attached to the fixed perhead and a ramp is across the road for putting your boat in the water. Also I furnish 2 bicycles . and a pass for the beach at the State Park. Gay friendly

This was the most relaxing vacation I have ever taken. Weather was great and even when it got hot the breeze off the salt marsh took care of that not to mention the great little pool just outside your door under the live oaks was wonderful. We had a great time in the early morning kayaking up the creek to the inlet. The beach at Hunt island is very nice and only six miles away so beach walking at night was fun also. Great day trip into Beaufort to shop and look at the historical houses ...JoAnn is a wonderful host ...

Owner's Response: Another delightful and active couple. They took advantage of my covered pierhead and floating dock by leaving their kayaks on deck during their week stay. They paddled with the tides at the appropriate times and really enjoyed the marsh. ESPECIALLY when a dolphin surfaced just at the bow of WENDY"S kayak.

THE MOMENT

  • 5 of 5
Some people talk about having an "Aha moment" but I would say staying at the Cozy Cottage could be considered an "Ahhhhhh moment". It was such a heavenly retreat at the end of some very busy days looking at real estate. My wife and I stayed for two weeks and could not have been more pleased. JoAnn was such a pleasure to work with both before and during or stay. We would definitely recommend this cottage for anyone looking for a clean, quiet, scenic and somewhat secluded location, yet close enough that you had easy access to things like restaurants, grocery stores, golf, sightseeing, etc. We were also fortunate to have excellent weather for almost our entire stay. We biked, walked and met many of JoAnn's neighbors, a friendlier group would be hard to find anywhere else. This was an easy jumping off point for day trips to Bluffton, Summerville, Hilton Head, Charleston and Savannah but it was hard to even leave Beaufort. Our one and only issue was the lack of cell phone service at the cottage but remedied that by communicating via email with friends and realtors. Believe me when I say that southern hospitality is alive and well at the Cozy Cottage and throughout Beaufort! Ahhhhh, the Cozy Cottage is the place!

OUR WEEK-LONG STAY

  • 5 of 5
This is a beautiful property that was accurately described in the listing. It was very clean and well-maintained. We felt very comfortable there. It is a very peaceful and calm place.

If you bring your dogs along, it's a perfect place for them. The owner's dogs are very friendly and wonderful.

There was some information about restaurants in the area as well as a pass to Hunting Island State Park, which we used for our visit there. You have to visit the park. It has beautiful trails as well as a lovely beach.

I think it would be helpful if the owner goes into the cottage with the renters, and reviews how different things work. I also think it would be helpful to provide a brief orientation about the area.

I would advise going to the Chamber of Commerce's Visitor Center early in your trip to get maps and any other information to help make the most of your stay.

Overall, our stay was wonderful and we'd be very happy to spend another week or two there again.

LOW COUNTRY GEM

  • 5 of 5
This was a great get-away for my wife, mother-in-law and little dog. The cottage is neat as a pin and well stocked with cooking utensils and linens. The large patio is a great place to oversee what is happening in the marsh that abuts the property while enjoying your favorite beverage or a book. The pool was still warm enough for a swim. Our host, Jo Ann was very kind and concerned for our happiness. The location was great for us, since we took my mother-in-law to cross off some sightseeing from her bucket list. For us, it is a convenient location for visiting Savannah, Charleston, Beaufort, etc. (which we did). We enjoyed the surrounding islands and fishing off the dock and with our boat we brought. We did not do any crabbing but I know it would be excellent due to little fishing pressure. Jo Ann has crab pots we could have used. Bring a cooler to take home some of the local shrimp - yum! We really enjoyed learning about the local history and people and everyone was very kind to us. We would book the cottage again.

I WANT TO LIVE IN THE LOW COUNTRY!!!

  • 5 of 5
I want to live in the Low Country. Specifically, I want to live in the Low Country in the Cozy Cottage. Because if ever there was a place I’d never want to leave, this is it!!! My family and I have been renting the cottage for a week every summer for the past six years, and though we’ve rented many houses in many places, this is the one we return to again and again—despite the need to accommodate other vacation plans and a 10-hour drive one-way! Property owner Jo Ann has thought of everything in outfitting the cottage: from the gas grill great for preparing seafood to the toiletries and hair dryer in the bathroom to Wi-Fi and brand-new flat screen TVs—though with dolphins, rays and a variety of birdlife to enjoy from the hammock at the end of the dock, crab pots to bait, a beautiful pool to play or relax in, and a fabulous screen porch perfect for dining and watching evening thunderstorms, we rarely have occasion to turn a TV on! The dog-friendly Cozy Cottage features a lovely décor and is immaculately clean, and if we didn’t find a way to spend a week here every summer, I have no doubt our dogs would head down without us. The only drawback to the Cozy Cottage is that every year at the end of the week, we do indeed have to leave!!!

Owner's Response: I look forward each summer to greeting this family. They know how to utilize and enjoy their vacations. While the pool entices the wife and a daughter the beach calls to the husband and 2nd daughter. How perfect that 4 can be happy with their choices while staying in one acommodation and feel so at home The dock in the early evening gives them family time together to discuss the next days' plans. Perfect
