Deep in the heart of the barrier islands - St. Helena an area rich with Gullah Culture, low country plantations, seafood festivals, and Civil War history. Come enjoy a uniqueness you will treasure forever. Carriage tours through Beaufort, South Carolina's second oldest city, seafood fresh off the shrimp boats, scenes from Pat Conroy's books. It is all here in the Low Country.
A cozy guest cottage located on two wooded acres shaded by huge live oaks and cooled by gentle marsh breezes. From the screened porch one can see a small marina across the water. Park like grounds with 300'marsh frontage lead to the crabbing dock where you might see dolphin swim by. A new addition is the 589ft dock for fishing or relaxing in the hammock catching the breeze. All just steps from your private pool and front door. PERFECT FOR A TWOSOME OR SMALL FAMILY.( Children over 10 yrs welcome )-
Pets, too, enjoy their vacation with family. They have full run of 2 (two) fenced acres. Need to walk your dog in the early morning?? Just open the door and let him/her out. Presently working part time in a golf Pro Shop at a nearby Gated Community. Previously flew internationally as a Flight Attendant for 30 years with PAN AMERICAN AIRWAYS. Also had a private pilot license and flew our 114 Rockwell Commander , along with my husband,to various locations for dinner , golf, and vacations. My life now revolves around my 5 rescued dogs (of various breeds) and the COZY COTTAGE. I also have a rental unit in the North Carolina Mountains.
The Owner purchased this cottage in 1992
My husband and I retired from the Pocono Mtns of Penna to the Low Country of South Carolina where we enjoyed golf and warmer weather. We bought our 2 acre property because of the magnificent live oak trees and marsh view. The home is a true low country design including a metal roof and then he built a matching guest cottage to accomodate our visiting family members. We loved the charm of nearby Beaufort and the proximity of Charleston and Savannah.
The luxury of privacy and quietness which is unique these days !!! The pool and courtyard area are for your use exclusively as well as the docks. Crabbing from the docks has been extremely good this year. If you have a boat there is a floating dock attached to the fixed perhead and a ramp is across the road for putting your boat in the water. Also I furnish 2 bicycles . and a pass for the beach at the State Park. Gay friendly
ALL MY GUESTS HAVE BEEN DELIGHTFUL BUT THIS COUPLE WAS ESPECIALLY PLEASANT. THEY WERE VERY ACTIVE CYCLING THROUGH OUT BEAUFORT COUNTY AND SEARCHING FOR PROPERTY TO BUY, SORRY TO SEE THEM LEAVE
The reviews are really accurate. This was our first time renting a place but not our first trip to the Lowcountry. The culture and people of this area really make you wonder why you are heading home. Initially, we planned on trips to Savannah and Charleston which were short drives away, however, our best plan when we arrived was to have no plan at all. Each day, we'd get up and just wing the day. It was wonderful. Hunting Island is a few miles away and Beaufort is about a 15 minute drive. The cottage is comfortable enough that you may find yourself just playing with one of JoAnn's dogs or crabbing off the dock than venturing out. JoAnn provides wonderful directions and instructions in advance.
If you are looking for that great spot to unwind, this is it!
The Cozy Cottage offers a true lived in experience for the Low Country of South Carolina given its ideal, rural location in the salt marshes. This was our first visit to SC and we appreciated JoAnn's recommendations and gracious hospitality. The cottage proved to be a wonderful, comfortable getaway for a couple looking to escape from a very, cold February in Canada.
Excellent bird and wildlife viewing for the nature lover.
Our Australian Shepherd appreciated the very, large fenced area that made her feel like home where she is accustomed to "free ranging". JoAnn's five dogs quickly became her best friends!
Lady's Island and Beaufort has many interesting shops and a beautiful waterfront. We enjoyed an excellent evening meal at the nearby Foolish Frog.
The nearby state park was a highlight with miles of naturalized beach in a tropical setting.
This was a great last minute getaway for my husband and me. We brought along our 2 small dogs and they enjoyed romping with Jo Ann's dogs and playing ball in the fenced in property. She also included a pass to Hunting Island State Park which is dog friendly and we enjoyed hiking along the trails and beaches. The cottage is clean, adequately stocked and perfect for a couple. The sunrise views that can be enjoyed from the comfort of bed are beautiful. She has a long dock with a covered seating area at the end that proved the perfect spot for evening cocktails while a small rain storm pelted the tin roof. Jo Ann was prompt in her communications to us while coordinating the trip and was very helpful while we were visiting her property. I would highly recommend this property. Thank you for a lovely vacation!
We were looking for a beach getaway to take our 2 labs & Jo Anne's cottage was perfect. The view is fantastic & he pool is beautiful & refreshing. She allows you to use her pass for Hunting Beach State Park, which is tropical & inviting & her recommendation for The Shrimp Shack was right on target. Fantastic place for lunch to bring to the beach
This was the most relaxing vacation I have ever taken. Weather was great and even when it got hot the breeze off the salt marsh took care of that not to mention the great little pool just outside your door under the live oaks was wonderful. We had a great time in the early morning kayaking up the creek to the inlet. The beach at Hunt island is very nice and only six miles away so beach walking at night was fun also. Great day trip into Beaufort to shop and look at the historical houses ...JoAnn is a wonderful host ...
Some people talk about having an "Aha moment" but I would say staying at the Cozy Cottage could be considered an "Ahhhhhh moment". It was such a heavenly retreat at the end of some very busy days looking at real estate. My wife and I stayed for two weeks and could not have been more pleased. JoAnn was such a pleasure to work with both before and during or stay. We would definitely recommend this cottage for anyone looking for a clean, quiet, scenic and somewhat secluded location, yet close enough that you had easy access to things like restaurants, grocery stores, golf, sightseeing, etc. We were also fortunate to have excellent weather for almost our entire stay. We biked, walked and met many of JoAnn's neighbors, a friendlier group would be hard to find anywhere else. This was an easy jumping off point for day trips to Bluffton, Summerville, Hilton Head, Charleston and Savannah but it was hard to even leave Beaufort. Our one and only issue was the lack of cell phone service at the cottage but remedied that by communicating via email with friends and realtors. Believe me when I say that southern hospitality is alive and well at the Cozy Cottage and throughout Beaufort! Ahhhhh, the Cozy Cottage is the place!
