Comfortable apartment, lovely views and fine food

The apartment was beautiful and very comfortable. Everything was clean and new. The owner, Jean Paul, speaks excellent English and couldn't have been more helpful, and the website for the property gave us all the information we needed. We had some lovely walks in the woods and round local villages, finding ruined castles and seeing exceptional views. The owner provided us with a map of local footpaths, which were well marked and easy to follow - we used it every day. There were many delightful villages within a short drive, with cafes and restaurants in abundance. The wine both in restaurants and supermarkets lived up to its reputation. We had a marvellous meal on the last night at the Restaurant Frankenbourg - a memorable experience!
The village of La Vancelle is very quiet and peaceful - not for holidaymakers who like to be in a bustling town! However there is a great variety of artistic, historical and natural attractions nearby, and the apartment is a great place to relax at the end of a busy day's sightseeing or walking.
It was a shame that there was no comfortable place to sit outside, and no washing machine - however, everything was brand new this year, and hopefully these small criticisms will have been put right by next summer.
It was a great holiday, and we would recommend both the apartment and the region - in fact we are hoping to return in the near future!
