For a few years, Otranto has been one of the most visited tourist centres in Apulia, where almost all mistakes of tourism planning and development have been avoided. Otranto has not lost any of its substance. The beaches and sea landscapes have remained intact, above all, there is no landscape destruction for settlements. The highlight of the old centre is the cathedral from the 11th century with its wonderful mosaic floors. The picturesque old city is surrounded by the powerful walls of the fortress. Small alleys and squares invite you to go on walks, small inns offer freshly caught fish... The harbour even allows for day excursions to Albania. Distinction for the coasts and the water quality (sail) and the tourism infrastructures (flowers) by the environment organisation Lega ambiance 2006: 5 sails and 4 flowers for Otranto (88.8 from 100 points and thus 10th place in Italy!)
