A comfortable stay in Berlin

A near perfect home from home for our family of five: 2 adults, 3 children, 14, 11 and 9. We were greeted a block away by the delightful Frau Kemmer, who rightly guessed that the bedraggled English family lugging suitcases through the streets were her delayed tenants. (We'll get a taxi next time - on the return journey it took 20 minutes to Schonefeld airport, using the taxi details provided in the flat.) The flat is ideally situated - 3 underground stations within easy walking distance for our daily sightseeing excursions. From Nollendorf Platz station, a mere 2 stops to Potsdamer Platz where we could walk to many of the things we wanted to see. And easy walking to the Kurfurstendam as promised, for 'The Story of Berlin' and some shopping.
We ate in simply at night from the two nearby small supermarkets, but there were many local restaurants and coffee shops within 5 minutes walking distance if your budget extends to dining out every night. We got fresh bread and pastries every morning from local bakeries.
The building was under renovation and covered in scaffolding during our stay, which put the balcony out of action, and it was too cold to sit out anyway, being October, but it will be a real bonus to be able to sit out in the summer. Our kids enjoyed the space in the flat; it was lovely and warm to come back to after a day spent viewing the sights. We managed to find some English language television and they even appreciated some of the German language programmes. We'll bring cds next time as there is a stereo. The dishwasher in the well-stocked kitchen was really appreciated and we didn't need to use half the gadgets that were provided, but if you enjoy cooking, everything you need is here.
The bedrooms were spacious and the beds and duvets comfortable and clean. A separate toilet and a bath/shower room with toilet meant no queues. Toilet paper was provided, but no soap - a small bar in each bathroom would have been welcome after a long journey - we had to wait until we had unpacked. Large, fluffy towels were provided, however.
Have just realised I keep saying 'next time'. There probably won't be one as we have 'done' Berlin now, but if you are thinking of going, I would recommend this flat as a great place to stay.
