Place to visit: Each area around Porto Heli has its own special character and most people like to do some exploring when on holiday. If you want to stay close to the sea, there is an abundance of islands to visit. You can start with the popular whitewashed island of Spetses, 10 minutes by small boat or water taxi from the Costa. Followed by a visit to Hydra, an artist’s traffic free paradise, or drive up the coast through the lemon groves to Poros. The intriguing walled city of Monemvassia, though not strictly an island, is well worth a visit. It is reached after a peaceful 3 hour journey by excursion boat along the Peloponnese coast. It is essential to visit inland Peloponnese. It has a mystical beauty emphasized by the constantly changing light and colours in the mountains and around the ancient sites. The area is easily reached by road or sea from Athens and there is a wide choice of daily flights both schedule and charter into Athens.
Vicky's welcoming pastries and food for our first breakfast was the perfect beginning of our great stay at Erato this august 08. The rooms are spacious, bright and spotless, the bathrooms are very confortable and convenient, the open kitchen is perfectly equipped, and the views, oh, the views! Day and night, together with the infinity pool, make it difficult to go elsewhere for sightseeing (beware if you travel with teenagers...) Porto Heli and Kostas are a few minutes ride away and have all the shops and restaurants you might need. Papadias restaurant in Porto Heli (and Papadias fish market too) are highly reccomendable.
While this place is a little farther away from the sea than a few of the other properties in the same location, a little drive (under 5 minutes, the villa is sitting almost on the top of the hill) is certainly worth the views that you get from the patio—into the bay, at SPETSES and SPETSOPOULA islands, at the ships, speedboat and yachts that are passing by.
If you are lucky and the full moon will be rising while you are visiting, then you are likely to get a super "dual star" view with the Sun setting down on the west and the Moon rising up on the east. Then if the sea is quiet and the sky is clear the "moon road" would stretch out into the bay and farther out into the sea.
Porto Heli is set in an area of outstanding natural beauty. Surrounded by rolling pine clad hills, the village is situated on a vast bay, providing one of the safest natural harbours in Greece, which today has been transformed into a miniature cosmopolitan port without having lost its traditional charm. It is also a paradise for water sport enthusiasts. With 18 miles of beaches & coves, there is always somewhere new to go for a swim or explore by boat. The mild climate, because of its 350 days of sunshine, the unforgettable sunsets, and the
innumerable cultural activities, ensure that Porto Heli is a popular holiday resort throughout the year. The lovely village centre offers a wide variety of shops, tavernas, restaurants, banks, cinema & newspaper kiosks. Information on car, boat & motorbike rentals, excursions by boat to Hydra, Spetses, Poros or Monemvassia or by bus to Epidavros, Nafplion & Mycenae is available at the Tourist Offices.
Ski: Water-skiing and other water sports are available at most of the coastal resorts.
