GOLF INFORMATION:
Some 20 minutes from Roques, near Eauze, you can play one of the finest golf courses in the South of France. Near Auch, which is a 30 minutes drive, you will find an 18 holes golf course at Golf d'Auch - Embats. In Mont de Marsan, an hours drive to the West, you will find the 18 hole course Golf de Mont de Marsan. I did play te Eauze golf course myself. It is a beautiful up and down hill course, surrounded by pine trees.
CULTURAL MAP:
Within 20 miles from Roques you will find the ´fine fleur´ of French history and culture in Gascony. The beautiful Abbaye de la Romieu (XIV century) lies to the north. To the northeast, within a few miles from the mill, you will discover the ancient art of making Armagnac and wine at the Chateau de la Cassaigne (XVII) and the small but beautiful exposition of paintings of Matisse, Picasso, Rubens, Renoir and Constable at the Abbaye of Flaran (XII). To the east, at less than 10 miles, the Villa Gallo-Romaine de Séviac, the charming fortified village of Larressinge and the most beautiful French village of 2005, Fources, are really worth your visit. To the west, the Chateau de Lavardens, is worth wile your trip. To the south you can visit the Centre d´Artagnan at Lupiac, the Chateau Termes d´Armagnac (XIII) and, last but certainly not least, the world famous Jazz festival at Marciac. And there is more, much more in the region that is waiting for you to discover.
WORTH A VISIT:
The Pyrenees: Rough and tough and, at the same time, accessible and friendly. In winter you can ski or snowboard. In summer rafting or walking are really pleasant pastimes.
Lourdes: The most well known shrine in Europe. For people who cherish tradition in religion, an absolute must.
Auch: The regional capital. The cathedral is worth a visit because of its more than a hundred oak choir stalls portraying more than 1500 figures and scenes. Nearby you will find the statue of D'Artagnan, the most famous of the Fab Four in the time of Louis XVI, the Three Musketeers. Auch has also a few good shopping centres and restaurants.
Pau: A city, well worth visiting, is more than one hours drive from Roques. You can, for instance, pay a visit to the castle and the adjacent gardens. You will certainly enjoy the magnificent view on the 80 peaks of Pyrenees from the Boulevard de Pyrenees. The streets in the old centre are delightful. Gourmets will easily find good restaurants.
Other Activities:
The lake on the property is full of (grass)carps and therefore very attractive for fishermen.
