Fort Myers House Rental Photos and Description

Charming 4 Bedroom 2.5 bath 'Old Florida Bungalow' with Pool - Rehabbed in 2012

Welcome to our home a few minutes walk away from the charming, rehabbed, award-winning downtown Ft. Myers, Florida. Like downtown, our home is OLD FLORIDA and newly and lovingly rehabbed from top to toe...we just finished the rehab in 2013 after two years of work and trips back and forth from Chicago. Built in 1925, our stucco Bungalow has all the vintage details and charm you'd expect. Original woodwork and refinished white oak floors are found throughout the first floor of the house which includes a formal living room with fireplace and dining room (which can entertain eight people easily); 10'x25' front porch sunroom; office; fully outfitted new country kitchen with Carrera countertops; new laundry; and powder room. The second floor, with refinished pine floors, includes four bedrooms (two with queen beds, one with one twin bed, one with two twins) and two new baths. There is a large covered patio adjacent to the house that leads to the pool, a perfect spot to dine and relax. And although we have a smattering of antiques from up north in the house, we also have board games, chess, wifi, books, and a pretty good library of DVD's.

Dependent upon the season, you can pick fresh mangos from one of our six mango trees for breakfast, or avocados from our two avocado trees.

Our home offers approximately 2,000 square feet of living space and is comfortable for 2-7 people. It truly feels like an oasis once you enter the side gate to the patio and pool....a place to lounge and laze the day away, or a great central location from which to go out and see the sights...which are many. We are within walking distance of some of the best restaurants, bars, and entertainment venues in Ft. Myers and the area in general....and within easy access to beaches, nature preserves, and various activities the Gulf Coast is so well-known for.

We live in the pool house on the other side of the patio and pool, so are available for recommendations and directions regarding activities, restaurants, events, and anything that needs attending to in the house or pool. Rest assured, however, that although we are on the property and therefore able to provide any help you might need, guests have their complete privacy throughout their stay. We are available if needed but give each guest the privacy they deserve.

We cannot guarantee, however, that our dog Charlie won't try to greet you now and then!

Please also note:

1) We are also the first rehab in our immediate neighborhood, thus our rates are lower than those in the Historic District. We have a State of Florida office building, parking structure, small apartment building, and small houses around us. The area is urban, quiet, and safe.

2) Our stove is a real antique and thus limited. While we tried to get it 'refurbished' there was no one in the state of Florida that could do so. The stove has two of four burners that work ....and we have a portable Kenmore double burner that can sit on top of the stove and provide additional burner capacity. The oven capacity of the stove is small and takes a long time to reach 325 degrees. We also have a full size outside gas grill that works just fine. We mention all of this so that cooks who prefer a traditional kitchen either won't be disappointed if they come, or might choose a different property if they are looking for large ovens.

3) We like to reiterate that we have a dog, Charlie, who is a gentle mini-giant (95#). Charlie will try to greet you as often as possible, but is calm and gentle. We make sure he provides greeting services only to those that welcome it. We mention this several times in our description so that those who may have allergies are aware he is on the property.

About Joan Leech

We are hopeless rehabbers....from the Chicago area, we will be relocating to Ft. Myers in 2014 where I will be hosting renters of the main house, while my husband Peter will be doing his 'handyman' thing around town. We currently also have a 'little wreck on the prairie' to rehab when we have time in southeastern Wisconsin.

I am a former management consultant, and Peter is a former professional in finance/pr. We love to travel, have learned to love the Ft. Myers area, and look at each other when we are here and say 'this is pretty nice'.

Joan Leech purchased this house in 2011

Why Joan Leech chose Fort Myers

We found it in disrepair...but it had great bones! It was also in an up and coming area where rehab will be going on, and within spitting distance of the great downtown Ft. Myers...which we love. We love old homes...the challenge is in taking it from sad and neglected and making it BEAUTIFUL! We had a vision...and we did it!

What makes this house unique

Now that we've 'finished' the house, it offers brand new amenities but with all of it's original Old Florida Charm. It really does feel like and is an oasis in the midst of town. Our home really isn't your typical rental - between all of the original aspects of the house, the privacy it offers, and the charming furnishings and art, it offers a unique and very special place to spend some time far away from your regular routine. In addition, it has a truly super location, walking distance to all downtown and historical points of interest, easy driving to beaches and all of the charms, outdoor activities, and adventures of the Gulf Coast.

Wonderful Vacation Spot

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I are retired and live in NW Florida. We love to travel and always try to arrange our accommodations through VRBO because we still want all the conveniences of home. I was a little reluctant at first to rent this place because I have bad knees and the bedrooms are on the second floor. However, we are so glad that we did because this rental was by far the best we have experienced through VRBO. The owners, Joan and Pete, went out of their way to make sure that we enjoyed our stay. They live in the pool house on the property but during our stay, we were made to feel that this was “our” home. The home also comes complete with a pet (Charlie) for the week which makes it feel even more like home. The pool was another plus. The pool is very private and Joan made sure that it was always clean during our stay.

We love the outdoors and do a lot of walking and hiking and the location of the house was perfect for us to walk downtown for our meals at local restaurants that were not chains. Strolling along the river and marina was another activity that we enjoyed during the week. We toured the beautiful Edison and Ford Winter Estates and even that was within walking distance of the house. We were looking for outdoor activities and Joan told us about Lover’s Key State Park. The beach there is pristine and abundant with shells along the shore. There are also beautiful hiking trails in the park with opportunities to see lots of wildlife including gopher tortoises, eagles and many other beautiful birds.

We will certainly be recommending this place to our friends.

Bungalow in Ft Myers

  • 5 of 5

We spent our spring break in Ft Myers and this house was perfect for our family. It was close and convenient to downtown with some great restaurants. We were there for Spring Training baseball which was only a 15 minute drive and we were also close enough to Sanibel Island and drove there to use the beach one day. What made this place fabulous were the owners. They did everything they could to make our stay wonderful. They made a list of activities and restaurant recommendations for visiting guests! The house was comfortable and my son played in the pool every day! I highly recommend.

Home away from Home

This home really reminded me of home!!!! It was old like our restored home, and very tastefully redone as it states in the description. The pool was heated and our 2 yr old swam there for the first time without being held by me or the wife. ( complete parent thrill) Charlie was like our dog at home and we couldnt help buying him treats and left over meats from dinner. The kids loved everything about the place except for the fact we couldnt move in forever!! Joan was so nice and helpful printing off places to dine and place to visit with the kids was soooo helpful. Cant wait to go back again!!!!!!!

Great stay in a more than individual and wonderful property

  • 5 of 5

We stayed with a party of 5 which was during high season, spring break and spring training probably the last possibility to stay and in any case the best decision we could ever make. The owners remodeled and reconstructed this old house from the 20s of the last century with amazing love, care and skill in any detail so it was like coming home from the very first second we arrived. My son and I stayed a couple of times in Cape Coral which is a pretty boring one horse town where every block looks almost the same. What we found in Ft. Myers was totally different, a nugget between all those anonymous company run houses where you pick up and return the key like if you were renting a car at an airport you´ll forget as soon as you leave it. This house is a lot more: cozy, homey and worth living at for more than just a couple of nights. The house is situated very close to the historic district of Fort Myers. Downtown is so beautiful, tidy, natural and adorable so you will be surprised about all those nice and individual little shops, bars, restaurants and museum where you can relax, stroll around, have a coffee or even do some geocaching. If you are interested in more than beaches, shopping and golf this is the place you will love! Everything is accessible by foot or car in just couple of minutes. We went boating, visited the RedSox games at Fenway South, rented a plane and flew across the state, went golfing and shopping at Miromar Outlets. The house is equipped very well. You´ll miss nothing because you have everything there what you have at home. And if you have questions or don´t know how to work with the historic stove just ask Joan and she will explain it to you. It wasn´t the stove, it was me who grew up with high tech and believes that everything has to work in 10 seconds otherwise it´s broken ;-) The owners are the most lovable owners I ever met! It was like meeting friends. Maybe it is not everybodys cup of tea but I enjoyed the serious discussions with the owners about politics, history and about all the world and his brother. For my son it was a big adventure to walk and make friends with Charlie the dog. I´ll never forget his crying and tears when we left. And believe me: there´s no better gauge to measure customer satisfaction than a 6 year old boy shedding tears after making new friends and finding a real home 5.000 miles away from hometown. Keep it up but never change the way you do it.

Super Comfortable House and Wonderful Hosts

  • 4 of 5

Our family of seven, age range 6-60, loved staying in this Ft. Myers home which has been lovingly restored. Although located in an older neighborhood, it is only a few blocks from a downtown which is full of nice restaurants to suit any taste. The owners were VERY helpful and worked hard to make sure our stay was enjoyable.
