Casa Jungua is built purely from greenheart woods and has an extremely low impact on the environment yet offers a level of elegance not matched by many. The house is exclusively solar powered yet features washer / dryer, refrigerator / freezer and other amenities one would expect from a “wired” home.
Casa Jungua has a large back deck AKA “the monkey porch” for the daily acrobatic jungle shows (performed by all four species of the Osa monkeys) and a full-length front porch providing breathtaking views of the sea and cooling breezes. In the house, when the large expanse of windows and doors are open you can experience the Osa signature 'open air living' yet with the comfort and security of SCREENS.
The front yard features a plunge pool and the signature element of the property – a pavilion that is suspended over the jungle and looks down on Lower Matapalo and the gulf. From this vantage point our guests enjoy watching the sunrise, a wide variety of wildlife, surfers, fishing boats, waves and humpback wales while dining, enjoying a morning coffee or happy hour after a long day of hiking, fishing or simply lounging.
Casa Jungua is built atop an exclusive bluff (with incredible hiking trails) far off the main road which not only affords great privacy and quiet but cooling breezes and incredible views. And the beach, where you can surf, swim or snorkel, is only a short hike down.
The O'Haras fell in love with the Osa Peninsula at first sight and their love has only grown stronger in the years that have followed. Because they care deeply about the environment they decided to build as responsibly as they could. To help preserve one of the last incredibly bio diverse places on the earth, they made sure their footprint was light. Their hope is that more and more families visit places like this, experience its indescribable beauty and come to the understanding that by our every day actions, we can all become better inhabitants and proud stewards of this beautiful planet.
Edward & Lynn O'Hara purchased this house in 2013
Casa Jungua is truly an extraordinary experience. The combination of the absolutely stunning location and the splendors of the surrounding natural setting are truly enhanced by the marvelous architecture of the house itself along with the landscaping. You will not want to leave there once established, so it must be emphasized that any and all provisions must be brought in from Puerto Jimenez prior to arrival, so as to avoid a return trip to the market. Also - be advised that the driveway can be indeed treacherous with very steep inclines and some sharp turns, thus 4 Wheel Drive in 1st Gear is required to safely navigate one's way in or out of the property. If you enjoy literally "getting away from it all" and being surrounded by nature in it's purest sense - while not sacrificing most modern conveniences and luxuries, this Mount Olympus in the Costa Rican Rainforest is an intoxicating perch where wildlife reigns supreme above the expansive views. Also, the caretakers Tarasita and Julio who live a stones throw away are extremely helpful and friendly (and tolerant of those whose Spanish is somewhat lacking). Simply a Heavenly Getaway!
We spent a week at Casa Jungua and had a wonderful time. The setting is spectacular with beautiful views of Golfo Dulce. The house itself is lovely and peaceful. Birds and monkeys are plentiful, and so fun to watch (although don't plan to sleep late unless you bring earplugs as they make quite a racket starting early each day). Casa Jungua is a great place for a real getaway.
One thing to note is that you will be quite a long drive from the grocery store in Puerto Jimenez (about an hour away), and the house is not stocked with any supplies. I recommend that you buy soap, shampoo, coffee, water, etc. on your arrival to avoid having to make extra trips into town.
Our vacation at Casa Jungua was absolutely perfect and we're so delighted that we found it and that the owners are willing to rent it out and let others experience it!!!
The property is spectacular, the pictures don't even do it justice. You have an unreal cliff overlooking the ocean as your front yard, and the jungle as your backyard, complete with back deck and hammocks. The sounds and sights are incredible, you really don't even need to leave the property to see amazing wildlife. It really doesn't get any better :) The house was very recently built and everything is brand new and pristine -- the floors are probably the nicest floors I've ever seen)! Adding to it was the wonderful and very attentive caretaker and his lovely wife who cooked and cleaned for us, which just made the vacation even more amazing!
The location is perfect, it's very close to the best surfing and swimming beach in the area (Pan Dulce) as well as Martina's bar (the place to be) and is a quick trip to Corcovado National Park. We also recommending checking out the very cool ecolodge next door.
If you're looking for the ultimate Osa getaway, Casa Jungua is the place to be, we couldn't recommend it more highly!
We just returned from three weeks in Costa Rica and have to say that Casa Jungua was a highlight. After two weeks of touring around Costa Rica we were hoping for an oasis of calm in Osa...and Casa Jungua delivered! Great layout...very well built and has all the amenities you can hope for. We did a number of trips into Corcovado National Park from this base, accessed the beaches which are very close and loved the pool...but the highlight has to be the setting. Every morning we woke up to the sound of howler monkeys and the hundreds of birds that surround the property...had coffee in the pavilion as we watched spider monkeys eat and play in the trees, then took countless photos of scarlet macaws, toucans and hawks that surround the property. The caretaker, Concepcion, and his family were an added treat as Kelyn was a great cook, the place was always clean and we managed to go for the best hike of our trip with Concepcion. Thanks for a great memory!
Casa Jungua is in a beautiful location that provides hundreds of acres of primary forest teaming with wildlife with magnificent beaches with some of the best fishing and surfing the world has to offer. Casa Jungua features a fully equipped kitchen, a comfortable living room, and a casual dining area in an open floor plan that lends perfectly to gathering, conversing, and relaxing. Exquisite amenities along with delicious home cooked meals and cleaning services are available.
The Osa Peninsula is one of the world’s primary eco tourism destinations. Blanketed with virgin tropical rain forest and edged in black sandy beaches and rocky outcroppings, there is much for the nature enthusiast to do and see. With four species of monkeys, exotic birds, and countless amphibians and reptiles, our guests will enjoy experiencing theses magnificent creatures up close in their own natural environment. Since Casa Jungua is flanked by the Pacific Ocean to the west and Golfo Dulce to the south, there is a variety of aquatic activities available as well such as surfing, fishing (inshore and deep sea) snorkeling, kayaking, swimming, and SCUBA diving. The Osa Peninsula is home to Corcovado National Park, one of the largest protected nature preserves in the world and offers exciting day-trips for travelers. In Puerto Jimenez, the main town on the tip of the peninsula, guests can enjoy shopping, dining and the local culture. If you are lucky, you just might catch one of their many festivals.
