HIBISCUS COTTAGE NESTLED IN PRIVATE PUNA RAIN FOREST

Special Offer! $50/night & $300/week ~May Special~ May 1 - May 31

Pahoa Cottage Rental Photos and Description

2 bedroom/1 bath cottage, private yet centrally located in the Puna District

Our two bedroom cottage is nestled in the rain forest 30 minutes south of Hilo. It’s private and secluded yet centrally located for all that the Puna district has to offer.

The ¼ acre property is surrounded by large Eucalyptus, Ohia and Avacado trees. Nestled amongst those are a large variety of plants and fruits including: bananas, pineapples, pomelos, tangerines and many ornamentals.

The cottage comfortably sleeps 2-4 people and has two bedrooms. The front bedroom is off the kitchen, has a full sized bed, a private sliding glass door to the front lanai and direct access to the bathroom. There is a folding screen that can be used for extra privacy from the rest of the house. The back bedroom is entered through the french doors, has a queen sized bed, and private access to the backyard.

The kitchen is fully equipped with a fridge, stove, microwave, dishes, all cooking dishes and utensils as well as some of my favorite cookbooks. We have a satellite TV, DVDs, CDs, books and internet for your at home entertainment. There is a boogie board and snorkel gear as well as beach towels for your outdoor adventures.

Enjoy day outings to Warm Ponds, Tide Pools, Volcano National Park and numerous farmers markets, then come home to your tropical getaway and fall asleep to the lulling songs of the coqui frogs.

We're Jake and Emily. We instantly fell in love with the island the first time we were here and left with one goal in mind, to find that perfect piece of property and move as soon as possible. Only several months later did we find Hibiscus Cottage and couldn't believe how lucky we were. We hope to someday move here, in the meantime we want to share our little slice of heaven with you.

We live in Boulder City Nevada just outside of Las Vegas. Jake is a professional poker player and runs his own poker concierge business. Emily is a Stage Manager at Cirque du Soleil.

We hope you enjoy the cottage as much as we do.

Lovely and beautiful cottage in fascinating environment

When we arrived at the Hibiscus Cottage we where overwhelmed. Not only is this place large and situated in beautiful environs, it is also decorated in a very tatsteful way and has lots of modern and clean facilities. We loved to have breakfast on the front porch and to cook our own dinner. The bed (actually there are two bedrooms) is very comfortable. The are is absolutely quite. Emily, the owner, is a very generous person. She compensated us with a fruit basket because there was a technical problem with the hot water supply on the first day. More than one could ask for!
They say that Puna is the area where there is most "Mana" (i.e. spiritual energy) on Hawaii. There might be something to it. At least we enjoyed our three days between tide pools, hippie farmers markets and - of course - the vulcano a lot and returned in the best of spirits. We loved our whole travel expierence on Hawaii, but after some so-so experiences with regard to accommodation, we were fully satisfied here. And more: really sad to leave...

This was more than a nice vacation rental, it felt like 'coming home'. Cute place, very well kept & equipped. Everything was provided as described and then some! Thanks for the goodies. And thanks for letting us stay a little longer. My only regret is that we bought bananas on our way there, when we could have had fresh apple bananas out of the garden;-) We loved this place, Mahalo!

Hawaiian Christmas

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful Christmas week staying in this sweet, very private, get-away cottage. Just the two of us celebrating our 35th anniversary. It is comfortably furnished with everything new. The beds are great! We love the very relaxing living room area with the sun shinning through the big windows. The kitchen is equipped with everything: microwave, pots and pans, beautiful dishes, and all. The cottage is close to grocery stores, outdoor craft and veggie markets, restaurants and many adventures. It is only a 45 minute drive to the Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park where we spent a whole day taking short hikes to see sulfer pots, steam vents, and lava tube. We stayed to see the Kilauea volcano "glow" after sunset, incredible. Other highlights near the cottage were; Tropical Botanical Garden, evening market in Kalapana, lava fields near Kalapana, and beautiful drive to a warm pool/park with dramatic ocean views. Driving around the big island is very interesting and can take a long time, especially if you want to stop and see the sights, we enjoyed; Kaimu black sand beach, coffee plantations, Pu'uhonua o Honaunau National Historical Park, and Waimea. We would recommend doing the trip in two days to enjoy more of the island's sites. Now that we are home, we miss going to sleep to the sound of the frogs as well as the bright Hawaiian sun and tropical rains.
We will be back!
