This is one vacation rental property that truly deserves the word "spectacular" in its description. My wife and two teenage sons (ages 12 & 14) recently returned from our stay and we were extremely impressed with this property, its location and how friendly and helpful the property manager and staff were.
When I first inquired about the property via email Martha Ingalls, the property manager, was very quick to respond to my inquiry and she was very helpful in answering all the questions I had with regard to planning our stay. During our stay Martha stopped by to say hello and was helpful in providing information on the area.
The pictures that are displayed on the web site are an accurate depiction of the unit and this property is located on one of the best beaches in Maui. This beach is especially good for families with children because it's a fine sandy beach with a long gentle slope which is great for playing in the waves and boogie boarding. Because the property is steps away from the beach you can hear the relaxing sound of the ocean waves all day and night long. Also, since the property is west-facing, you can take in the awesome colorful sunsets right from the lanai.
This unit and the grounds at Hale Hui Kai are very well-maintained and Hale Hui Kai is very family friendly. Near the lanai there is a deck storage chest filled with beach chairs, balls, beach toys, boogie boards, and snorkeling masks and swimming fins. Even though we ended up dining out for all of our meals with the exception of breakfasts during our stay the kitchen has a stove, dishwasher, full size refrigerator, small appliances (microwave, blender, toaster) and is fully stocked with everything you would need to prepare and serve meals at "home."
This was the perfect location for a relaxing and enjoyable vacation. Our only regret is that we couldn't stay longer.
My husband and I stayed at HHK with our 9 month old baby and his parents who joined us from Australia. It was a perfect location for access to the beach, the hotels to the south and park and market right next door. The sunsets were amazing! We loved walking out our front door for breakfast and sitting on a private patio to watch the sunset. Ben and Martha, the hosts of the property, were wonderful. One light was out in the bedroom and they were there in five minutes to fix it. I've been to Maui many times, in condos, hotels and resorts and this by far was the absolute best place to stay. Every morning and evening we took the 2 mile stroll on the beach, snorkled right out our front door and watched the sunset from our private large patio. It was immensley convenient with children, as we walked out our back patio right to the lawn and beach instead of going up and down stairs to retrieve towels and toys. Highly recommend it and enjoy!
My wife and I have stayed in this unit during the winter months for many years, and find the location superb. It's on the shady side of the building, and doesn't get too hot in the glaring afternoon sun.
The furnishings in this unit have been updated. The kitchen area is somewhat dated, though still quite functional.
Guests at Hale Hui Kai tend to be sociable and very friendly, which makes for fun and engaging discussions each evening at sunset.
Lack of air conditioning has never been an issue, as the ocean breeze keeps the temperature moderate at all times.
Overall, the building is well maintained and managed.
