Overview

Hilo Estate Rental Photos and Description

Private Residence; Luxurious 3-bedroom 3.5-bath Oceanfront Plantation Style Home

Built in 2012, and designed to embody the Hawaiian Sugar Plantations of the early 1900s, this private oceanfront estate allows you to enjoy the grandeur of the once thriving sugar industry that lined the Hamakua Coast, between Hilo and Honokaa to the north. Reminiscent of the large plantation estates, this home will allow you to immerse yourself within the beauty of the Big Island of Hawaii with its entire splendor overlooking the Pacific Ocean. The Big Island of Hawaii holds many treasures for one to see, and this location offers adventure and abundance - all within walking distance or just a short leisurely drive along the historic coastline. Enjoy the nearby majestic waterfalls, the tropical botanical gardens, or maybe take them all in on a zip-line adventure ...it's all right here and awaiting your arrival!

The main house of this private estate, known as Palua 'K Plantation, is a 3-story 3-bedroom 3.5-bath home, fully furnished and designed with luxury and comfort in mind. The upper floor has two master bedrooms complete with king sized beds, separate baths, covered lanais, and open air viewing decks. On the main level there is a third bedroom with a queen sized bed, full kitchen, and cozy den. Also on the main level is a beautiful 2-story great room with a formal dining room and living room, plus expansive wrap-around lanais. No matter where you are within the home you will experience gorgeous ocean views, stunningly scenic hillsides, and majestic Mauna Kea - our long dormant northern volcano. And, did we mention that there is an exercise gym, bonus room, laundry services, and a full bath at the bottom level.

Every room of this home is luxuriously appointed so that you can relax and enjoy this residence as your own. For your added comfort, there is a resident reception staff located in a separate structure 24-hours a day / seven days a week. Relax and be assured that your arrival and check-in will go as smoothly as possible!

Around the home and on this estate there are numerous viewing decks, garden walkways, and coconut/banana/exotic fruit lined paths ...pick some fresh fruit, when in season, and enjoy the taste of the islands! Or, take a short walk down to the spectacular cliff-edge landing - once part of the sugar plantation's sugarcane staging area. This ocean lookout over the ocean will take your breath away! Here you can enjoy the rolling waves while sitting at picnic tables under the trees and watch the whales & dolphins (in season) jumping almost as if they are under your feet.

Now if the great outdoors is your interest, the adventures of the Big Island will continue in all directions from here. Just across the street and up the slope, two zip-line companies offer breathtaking rides over the Umauma Falls and Botanical Gardens. ...or just walk among the cows, goats and sheep that dot the hillsides. To the south and just over the bridge is the site of the old Hakalau Sugar Company, and the public beach lined with coconut trees swaying in the breezes, locals fishing, and surfers riding the waves. This makes for a nice walk from the house, maybe 2-3 miles round trip by foot or a short drive by car.

For more sites within the immediate area, we also recommend a visit to the famous Akaka Falls State Park just a few minutes to the south. Experience the sweet smells of tropical flowers and the mist from the grand ~450ft waterfall. Traveling to Akaka Falls takes you through an old plantation town called Honomu with its historic storefronts still in operation today. Enjoy great bakery treats at Mr. Ed's, or other fine foods at one of the local outlets. And if you are looking for a bigger town center, shops and restaurants then continue south to Hilo. Hilo is the main city of east Hawaii, and there are ample places for shopping, eating, or site seeing. We might also recommend the Hilo Farmers Market on Wednesdays and Saturdays with lots of fresh fruits & vegetables and many other fine crafts. Continuing on south another ~45 minutes, and you will find Volcano National Park. Here the volcano named Kilauea (which has been erupting continuously since 1983) has active lava flows - a must see if you are on the Island of Hawaii!

If the cattle ranch lands and horseback riding are more your interests we suggest you drive north, but make sure to stop in Laupahoehoe and take the scenic drive down water’s edge to the breathtaking beach and park, this location was also was the site of the devastating tsunami of 1946. We highly recommend visiting the Old Railroad Station located within Laupahoehoe where you will find a wealth of information about the sugarcane plantations and the railroad that once connected the Hamakua Coast from Hilo at the south point and up towards Honokaa and the Waipio Valley at the northern tip. Watch the train museum video if you can, it’s worth the wait! And now that you know all about The Hamakua Heritage Coast, proceed onwards and continue north to either Waipio valley (also known as the Valley of The Kings), or up the mountain to the cattle ranching town of Waimea—yee haw :-). Horseback riding anyone? And did we mention there is great food up this way too?!

Highway 19 (also known as Hawaii Belt Road) runs by the estate and if you stay on this road in either direction you'll find your way back home. By simply connecting to the other local highways, one can easily connect to any of your desired local destinations from here, or continue on to all of the other towns and cities of the Big Island of Hawaii!

About Brett Kayzar

Palua 'K Plantation Company, which means dual or double 'K in the Hawaiian language, was named after the two owners. As the current guardians or care-providers of this wonderful strip of land, their aim was to bring back the look and feel of the once thriving sugar plantations that lined the beautiful Hamakua Coast on the Big Island of Hawaii.

The owners have lived and worked on the islands since 1983, with many friends and family members here, and now occasionally they find themselves traveling for work to Japan, Korea or China, and of course the US mainland is always on the list as well.

Please join everyone here to enjoy the wonders of Hawaii, to share and respect the beautiful Hawaiian people with their cultures and treasures that are the Islands of Hawaii.

Beautiful Stay in Hilo

  • 5 of 5

We came to see our dear friends daughter (Miss 2014 Aloha Hula winner) perform at the Merry Monarch Festival for her Aloha dance. Luckily we found this beautiful home right off the coast near Hilo. The home made us feel at home. The décor and lani are breath taking. We saw whales while relaxing on the Lanai. The hostess was so sweet and kind to us. She showed us the Aloha spirit. When we get a chance to come back we will be staying here again!

Birthday Celebration

  • 5 of 5

Spent a week celebrating my 60th birthday with some family and friends. This home helped make this a memory I will always treasure. While we visited many of the Big Island attractions we always loved spending the mornings and evenings on the lanai visiting with each other and watching for whales. We loved the ample space, and the many amenities. We would highly recommend it. This home is fantastic!!

Relaxing In Luxury

  • 5 of 5

We can't say enough about this tastefully decorated, fantastic, well-equipped oceanfront home on the northeast coast of the big island. Our family explored all parts of this amazing island and thought this region the best. After a day of activities, we loved coming back to the comforts of this home -- the reclining couches in the den were fabulous! Each morning we spent time on the lanai watching whales. Thanks for the well-stocked kitchen, baths, and laundry room! It was nice to have the extra amenities available to us such as beach towels, coolers, bottled water, coffee. Fellow travelers, don't miss Mr. Ed's and the other shops in the town on the way to Akaka Falls. You'll find some of the best breakfasts and souvenirs on the island there with reasonable prices. This home is an easy drive to the Waipio Valley lookout where you can take a steep hike down to a secluded black sand beach, complete with waterfalls and a stunning view back into the lush

valley -- our family's favorite thing we did out of 7 days! In Hilo the Cafe Pesto and Pineapples were great restaurants. The farmers market is not to be missed. For snorkeling, you can't beat Richardson's beach for the close proximity and the fish that you see, along with the big green sea turtles near you in the water as well as on the rocky areas near the beach. The 4-mile Onomea scenic drive, just south of the house, was fun, with some great views and an awesome smoothie place along the drive. Alae Beach, south of the house and across the street from a cemetery, is a good surfing spot.

Amazingly Beautiful & Comfortable Family Vacation Rental!

  • 5 of 5

Our family decided to spend our Christmas holiday (early!) on the Big Island, so after renting smaller vrbo properties on the Kona side in the past, we opted to try the Hilo side in a larger home for our 2 week holiday. We wanted plenty of space for mom, dad and the three adult children to spread out, as well as large enough areas for all of us to enjoy together. We struck gold with this property! From the moment you drive into the gated driveway, you are impressed with the wide open space greeting you. The impressive front door is just the beginning of all the eye-candy awaiting you behind it. We are art lovers.....and animal lovers and found an abundance of both. My husband and I wanted to continue our daily exercise regimen and found not only a recumbant bicycle, but also a treadmill, weights and other contraptions I have only seen in gyms. The kitchen is huge...two dishwashers (!), two sinks, a large pantry and plenty of room for several cooks to operate without stepping on anyone's toes. The two master suites were perfect for our married daughter and son-in-law and ourselves; and the third bedroom and family room turned out to be perfect for our son. The living room and dining room offered good space for conversation and playing cards and games. The lanai was definitely our favorite space in the house. We spent many hours in the morning and evening being mesmerized by the expansive ocean below us while enjoying a glass of wine. It was amazing! I also want to mention that the owner is very generous in supplying all the 'staples' one needs in a vacation rental. We had plenty of paper products, shampoo, conditioner, soap, cleaning supplies, etc. that are not always provided. There was even a small refrigerator stocked with bottled water! Since we had never stayed on the Kona side, we were a little worried that the location may involve more driving than when we stay on the Kona side, but found that not to be the case at all. The black sand beach, Volcano, Pahoa Tidal Pools (& the private lava tube tour in the Puna District), Hilo Farmer's Market, Akaka Falls, Umauma Falls (best zip lining we have done anywhere) are close enough to make whichever destination we were headed an easy drive (or walk across the street). Saddle Road takes you to Waikoloa in just an hour and a half. We found we did less driving staying on the Hilo side than we did on the Kona side. We will definitely return to this uber-clean and well-appointed home.

Loved it

  • 5 of 5

Three recently retired teachers and their husbands loved this place! Beautiful home and great view. Started the day with cup of coffee watching the ocean on the veranda. Close to Hilo, where we went to the farmers market, got some fresh fish, visited two beautiful falls, etc. We would recommend this place to anyone.
