This two-story cabin has been in my family over 50 years. It is located in a private community right next to one of the largest resort/marina's in South Lake. Also, right next door, is the famous Beacon Restaurant, one of only two restaurants located on the water on Tahoe.
The cabin is spilt into two different sides, we call them 'The Big Half' and 'The Little Half.' The smaller side sleeps five comfortably and has its own bathroom, kitchen, living room, and fireplace with insert. The larger side has four bedrooms, sleeping up to twelve, including the bunk room, and larger kitchen, living room, and a stone-walled fireplace. Both sides share the large wood deck overlooking the lake.
So much to do in Tahoe in both of our long seasons. We are located three minutes from an awesome sledding hill, that mostly locals know about, eight minutes from Heavenly Ski Resort, ten minutes from stateline, and 25-30 minutes from Tahoe City where the family can go white-water rafting in the summer. Within a walking distance you will find all manners of FUN.... physical activities to theatre and art shows. There is the famous Valhalla Estate available for weddings. Learn about the Indians and history of Tahoe in the various museum installations at the Three Historic Estates to the west.
This is a great, family-owned, rental cabin that wants to make our renters feel like family and keep coming back to beautiful South Lake Tahoe.
This is a family owned property originally purchased in 1944 by my Grandparents, Arthur and Florence Stormes. The property is now being cared for by Matthew Painter, David Painter, Thomas Painter, Stacey Knouse and Polly Nelson.
Painter Beach House purchased this house in 1944
On the edge of the lake, Summer walk out the sliding doors to a beautiful view of Lake Tahoe just steps away. In fall the area is quiet warm days and cool nights 'locals see this as their time' come join us. Winter, dramatic views of the lake and weather at the waters edge. Just 15 minutes to Heavenly
I have been staying at this cabin for many years for vacation. It is as the title suggests, a home away from home. From the moment you pull up to your private entrance the home screams relaxation. The furniture is comfortable enough to want to take naps and enjoy the sound of the Lake Tahoe shore lapping at the beach. There is nothing more beautiful than waking up in the morning and enjoying quiet time on the huge deck. The cabin is in the perfect location. It has it's own private beach, but is situated next to one of the best hot spots on Lake Tahoe. Skiing, both water, and snow, are within minutes, wake-boarding, jet skiing, paddle boarding, kayaking, you name it, it is at your finger tips. Both cabins are equiped to accomidate a very large, and extended family. The kithchens have put out large dinners comfortably. My favorite time is setting the large tables on the beautiful deck over looking the water, and sitting down to a sunset dinner. I would highly recommend this cabin to a family that loves spending quality time together in a stunning setting. The beds are comfortable, the showers perfect, even having a washer and dryer to use if needed is fantastic…..The owner of the property is kind and helpful, and willing to answer any and all questions, even if it where to get a good hamburger. This is a five star rental!
cons: no grill for large side, no grill accessories
comforters and bed pads filthy
carpet full of sand throughout (had to leave shoes on)
shower curtain in upstairs bathroom moldy
no ladder in bunkroom, wobbly bunkbeds
glass slider off guide in upstairs bunk room
screen door off back door and upstairs bedrooms
couch had to be covered with sheet due to sand
stove needs replaced
ants on counters even after spraying throughout week
water heater turned up to 165 degrees
40+ public visitors on beach upon arrival
many lights out and short in upstairs bathroom
pros: beach front
on demand water heater (awesome once adjusted)
washer and dryer
large deck with nice furniture
fridge with working ice maker
You could not ask for a better location and view than this home! The end of the deck (which is large) is actually a foot from the edge of the lake! Lovely to sit on the deck or in the living room with the sliding door open and hear the water lapping on the shore. The home and rooms are small - an older family cabin with mementos of generations who have enjoyed this home. The house sits on a private road next to Camp Richardson (a short walk down the beach for 'Rum Runner' drinks!). Nearby, lovely walks through the Tallac historic estates. The older homes are on the beach while the newer estates sit back due to newer environmental constraints. The rental family was so pleasant to work with. This is a great place to relax and enjoy the lake. We sat in the sand, swam, kayaked, biked, hiked - all without getting in the car!
Just returned from a fabulous week at this property. We slept 11 people from ages 5 to 92 comfortably in the cabin. Other than sleeping, we hardly were inside at all. From the minute we walked in the front door, we were drawn through the cabin right to the expansive deck. A really nice deck with a lot of seating, a nice table, grill and big sun umbrella. Inside the cabin, there are fabulous views from every window...even doing dishes didn't seem a chore while looking out at the lake and mountains. This cabin's location was ideal for our group. The kids and active ones were able to take advantage of all the Camp Richardson Marina had to offer, which was just within steps (side note, we love the Tahoe Ski School -definately worth checking out) and those of us who were there just to relax were able to lounge on the deck and watch the others out on the water. Our youngest ones, spent many afternoons taking cooking classes and meeting Smokey the Bear over at the Baldwin Estates (also a short walk). It was really nice not to have to jump in the car to enjoy the beach or get to activities -- it would be easy to stay here a week and never have to use a car.
We only had the "big half" of the cabin, but during the weekend when there was another group of 5 in the small side, sharing the deck was no big deal at all (which had been a concern of mine prior to renting - we also could not hear them when inside the cabin and parking was not an issue). I would definately rent this cabin again, this was my 43rd and my grandmother's 92nd summer in Tahoe and we agree that we think we finally found the ideal location. We also are fond of the fact that this cabin has been owned by the same family since it was built and is lovingly cared for by the younger generations. Next time, I think I would rent both sides so we can share the special experience with more of our clan.
There is a Kids Camp available next door at Camp Richardson available for a fee
