About Leslie Harnish-Savage
The owner is a Panamanian who lived most of her life in Florida before living in Panama full time for six years now. This owner and family are still enjoying Panama full time, but opportunities lead them to another area for now.
Leslie Harnish-Savage purchased this house in 2011
Why Leslie Harnish-Savage chose Pedasi
This property was one of the only pieces of titled beach front properties available in Pedasi. This home was built by a local builder and his wife. The woods used throughout the home are also local and were handcrafted especially for this home. The area lends to a relaxing and tranquil lifestyle. Most of the time spent here is either in the ocean playing in the waves or hanging out in the rancho. Mornings are a real treat, while having coffee in the rancho the pelicans fly by, only inches above the incoming waves. In season, the mother whales are teaching their young to fend for their own food. This will surely be a crowd pleaser, no matter what the age!
What makes this house unique
The benefit of this property is its location and its sustainability. It is as green as it can get. This house is all solar powered, along with its own separate solar powered well. We have learned that we have to be responsible about the use of the solar power, so we also ask that of our guests. Should you wish to use the A/C units at night, please let our concierge know beforehand. A few hours to cool the room off at the end of the day is adequate, but if you need the A/C's all night, we have to run the generator (a charge of $25/per night). Our staff will handle it all, but please give them plenty of notice. Our home is central to the town of Pedasi or to the local surf spots, such as; Playa Venao. If you want to get away from it all, this is the place. It is a 25 to 30 minute ride to go surfing or to one of the many restaurants. The peace and quiet this home has can't be matched. It is great to be able to get away from the crowds and noise at the end of a long day. Be home in time for a beach bonfire while watching the sun set over the mountains with your favorite drink. Life is good in Pedasi!
Guestbook comments from the owner
I am very torn in writing this review:
There are two things you need to know. First, you definitely need a 4x4 to get to this house because it sits 4 miles off the paved road down a very rural road. Second, it is well worth the drive. The house is completely off the grid. Complete solar power. Normally this wouldn't be a big deal, but the house is not laid out to take advantage of breezes or airflow, so you will want to spend most of your time outside which is the goal anyway. The area is very rural with mostly cattle farms surrounding you. If you like quiet and isolation, this is the place. There are a couple of gringo neighbors who will come by or ask you over for drinks. Pedasi is about 35 minutes and Playa Venao is about 25 minutes away.
Marija and Guy make it very easy to kick back and relax. They will cook breakfast, lunch, or dinner if you wish. Depending on what you like, this is a great option. Food is very simple, but makes a great start to the day. They helped out by setting up a massage for both me and my wife. They made smoothies and served up fresh coconuts. At night they made a lovely beach bonfire for us.
Leslie the owner was easy to work with and did her best to make it easy for us to get there.
This house will work for a couple, like we did, or a family with older kids, but not for multiple couples.
We enjoyed the quiet and spent hours watching the waves and seabirds. Walking on the beach, swimming/playing in the waves, and doing a little yoga were our big activities. We heard Howler Monkeys and saw sea turtle tracks.
We stayed in this area two years ago, and since then, you can see the effects of increased tourism. Prices in the restaurants have gone up and if you go to one of the "nicer" restaurants, you are going to pay the same prices you pay at nicer places in metro us areas. Accommodation prices have also gone up. In addition, everyone wants to sell land or build out a development.
So with the effects of increased tourism already starting to manifest themselves, I am loath to write a glowing review that will add to the effect, but this place and Guy/Marija deserve it. This really is a great place to relax.
