Little Compton House Rental Photos and Description

Enjoy Our Light Filled And Well-appointed Contemporary Cape Beach House

Less than 1 mile from one of Rhode Island's prettiest beaches, this light filled home has living room, dinning room, family room and four bedrooms and four full bathrooms, plus a fully enclosed and private outdoor shower and changing area. The house is comfortable for 8 and can handle 10 if necessary.

A short ¼ mile walk takes you to a secluded cove on the Atlantic which is owned by the neighborhood association. It’s a great place to launch kayaks, surf cast from the rocks on the point, look for sea glass or just sit and take in the wonderful ocean views.

The house is in a private neighborhood with deeded beach access, approximately 3 miles from the picturesque town center of Little Compton. In town you can get groceries at Wilbur's General Store, a meal at the Commons Lunch or A1 Pizza, and in the morning's a cup of coffee at the Art Cafe.

The house is available each summer from the beginning of May through mid-November.

Please note that we will NOT rent the house for use as a location for a wedding reception or similar type of gathering. Our neighborhood association by-laws prohibit such uses.

Enjoy our 3250sf well-appointed Contemporary Cape Style home. We have owned and used this well-maintained home extensively for the past 14 years, completing the second floor expansion in 2006. The house has central air conditioning and heat. There is ample space for spreading out and finding privacy and large rooms and outdoor decks for group gatherings.

The Living Room offers ample seating for 8-10 and features southern and western views from the two large front windows and side Bow window. There is a compact audio system for your CD’s, iPods/iPhone plug-in. A side shelf area has puzzles and some games for children and young teens. There is also a nice brick fronted fireplace in the living room for cooler evenings.

The kitchen comes with a well-stocked kitchen of pots, pans, utensils, cutlery and place settings for those who want to cook. There is ample counter space to set up a large group meal. The kitchen has dishwasher, microwave, toaster, electric range/oven and refrigerator with ice-maker. There is a side counter area for a casual bar set up.

The dining room has wonderful views of the open lawn and fields looking toward South Shore and Goosewing beaches through a large set of French doors and windows. Table seats 8 comfortably with the expansion piece, and the owners have put up to 12 around the table at times. The dining room also has a fireplace for the crisper early spring or late autumn evenings.

The first floor provides two bedrooms and a full bath. One bedroom has a queen bed, dresser/mirror and side chair plus two closets, and features french doors opening onto a small deck and the open back yard. From two sides of this room you have nice views of water and Goosewing beach. The second bedroom provides two twin beds with a single French door opening to the lower deck on the east side of the house. This room also provides views of the water looking east toward Martha’s Vineyard. The bath has a tub/shower combo and single sink, plus a linen closet.

Between the kitchen and family room sits the second full bathroom on the first floor, with a walk-in shower, toilet and single sink, plus a linen closet and washer and dryer behind louvered doors.

The second floor features hardwood floors throughout and includes two bedrooms, an office/combo room and a library/sitting area. The second floor has a wet bar adjacent to the library and access to a small cozy outdoor deck with outstanding views of the water, perfect for a morning coffee and reading.

The large master suite has a queen bed and chaise lounge. The master bath has a walk-in shower, a large soaking tub, private toilet closet and his and her sinks areas. The second bedroom offers two double beds with wonderful views looking south through an expanse of windows under the eyebrow dormer roof. The bedroom provides direct access to the bath with tub/shower and two sinks.

The office/combo room has a desk/workspace area and casual seating including a 40” TV. The room can easily be transformed into a back-up bedroom if necessary by using the futon couch.

The house comes equipped with high-speed internet access, wireless routers on both floors and Cable TV. There is a big screen TV in the family room and a 40” TV in the office on the second floor. Each room on the second floor has hard wire connection to a Cat-5 data plug for internet access, if necessary.

Large two section rear deck area – one deck is approx.. 24 x 16 and the outer connected deck is 12 x 12. Both decks have seating and the larger deck has a Umbrella Table with bench seating for 8. The rear deck has a 22” Komado Joe ceramic grill (Green Egg style) for BBQ/outdoor cooking. The decks provide sweeping water views to the east and southeast and beautiful sunsets to the west. There is also a firepit which can be used on the lawn.

A large back and side yard provides plenty of space for games such as volleyball, whiffle ball, tossing the lacrosse ball or catching a baseball with friends and family.

An east side 1st and 2nd floor deck (~12 x 26’) is great for early morning coffee and reading or afternoon naps with ocean views including the Elizabeth Islands and Martha’s Vineyard/Buzzard’s Bay. Both decks have comfortable outdoor seating making them inviting space to spend your time.

A front porch had 4 rockers and great views of the Atlantic looking south and open farm fields looking west.

The house comes with 3 adult three mountain/hybrid bikes and 1 child’s hybrid available for use by renters.

This a quiet, private location for those wanting to have the flexibility of R&R or being within driving distance of destination locations such as Newport, Middletown Beaches, Martha's Vineyard, Boston, Cape Cod, Horseneck Beach, Providence, etc.

Little Compton is a very small, rural and bucolic town located on the southeast of the Sakonnet River. The Town Commons has the Commons Restaurant, Wilbur’s General Store, A1 Pizza, the Brownell Library, and an ATM, churches, Living Water Surf Shop and Corner Cones Ice Cream (Summer only). All of these places are about 3 miles from the house- a 10 minute bike ride or 45 minute walk. The town center has the Library, the public tennis courts, Community Center kids camps, local churches and playground adjacent to the K-8 school. Also Crowther’s restaurant is about 1 mile east of the town center. The area is spotted with many farm stands including Young’s Family Farm and Walkers, both on upper Main Road about 4 miles from the house. Wishingstone Farm, a Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) farm with farm stand is across from the entrance to our neighborhood. It is a 6/10 mile walk from the house. The farm-stand is open on Tuesday and Saturday weekly in the summer. Non-members are welcome and it is cash or check only. Sakonnet Vineyards is past the farm stands on upper West Main Road about 4.5 miles from the house. The Vineyard does wine tastings, and holds Thursday evening concerts in the summer. There is also a small restaurant at the vineyard.

The area is also very popular for bike riding; the roads are less traveled and very scenic. The homer owner can provide advice on riding loops of short (7-15 miles) medium (25-38 miles) and long (50-75 miles) that are both scenic and challenging.

There are also many choices for hikers including:

The Dundery Brook trail runs through a forested wetland and then into an open meadow and pond habitat near the Commons in Little Compton.

In neighboring Tiverton, RI there are two miles of trails in Emily Ruecker Wildlife Refuge; a 50-acre parcel of woods and salt marsh with trails and fine views of the Sakonnet River is home to breeding Ospreys.

Very close to the Refuge are three interconnected trails at the 230 acre Pardon Gray Preserve and connects with the Weetamoo Woods Preserve.

Westport Massachusetts is located just east and provide a few shopping areas, large supermarket, a number of restaurants. Horseneck Beach, a large, public state beach reservation where the Westport River joins Buzzards Bay. Also in Westport is Osprey Kayak where you can take lessons for kayaking or stand up paddling.

Wonderful Family Vacation

  • 5 of 5

Our stay in Little Compton was a perfect family vacation. With our three adult children, spouses and grandchildren, we enjoyed every inch of this wonderful spacious home and property. The kitchen is well equipped, the bathrooms modern and the living space roomy. The outdoor deck(s) were a bonus where the kids played during the day and we enjoyed adult meals under the stars. The Cove is magical and the ocean views take you all the way to Martha’s Vineyard. The quaint town offered farm stands, ice cream treats and nice little shops. We took a day trip to Newport and grandkids enjoyed the local beach, bike rides, and library programs. Overall – lovely!

Amazing Views and a Wonderful House

  • 5 of 5

My family and I stayed here for a week and we had such a great time. The house is very roomy and the bedrooms and bedrooms are very comfortable. This house has everything you need for a vacation. The location is great and the views of the ocean and beaches are spectacular from every room. We walked to the cove and had a nice fire at night and watched stars and the moons rise. We will certainly come back again.
