Cortijo Chalmalar is within easy reach of the beach, yet it remains peaceful even in high season and nature always feels close at hand. It is set amid farmland on the edge of a small unspoilt village called El Almarchal, just 5km inland from the beach at Zahara de los Atunes. Originally built in 1898, it was the major working farm of the village for many years. It was restored and expanded in 2003 and presently sits on 7000m2 (2 acres) of land bordering directly onto rolling hills. With an area of 420m2, the property is arranged on 3 sides around a large central courtyard with a large barbecue. It has 2 separate satellite TV areas each with a DVD and music system. El Almarchal is 5km from Zahara, 15km from Barbate with their wonderful beaches. It is ideal for walking, cycling and horse riding, as well as exploring by car places such as Tarifa, Vejer, Medina Sidonia. It is 8km from the main road, which follows the coast round from the Mediterranean up to Cadiz, Jerez and Seville. The village itelf has a small food shop, 3 bars and a chapel. From the cortijo you see the rolling hills set between 2 small mountains, the Sierra del Retin and the Sierra de la Plata. In and around the village you see cattle, horses, goats, donkeys, a wide variety of birds. At night the moonlight and the stars seen from the patio are magical.
