Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg Vacation Rental apartment

We stayed in the apartment for a month (January/February 2009) and were very satisfied. It was basic but squeaky clean, had a decent size and contained everything we needed. The bed is excellent. Internet access was easy and reliable. In contrast to earlier reports, we had the ability to hang up our clothes.

The Bio markt across the street is a fabulous source for healthy food. Public transportation could not be more easily accessible for all directions. We missed the ambience of a Kiez a little, but thought that the very reasonable rent more than made up for that shortcoming.

The service provided by the owners was impressive. We asked for a better reading lamp and received one on the same day. All though our stay, they responded promptly and considerately.

We would definitely rent this apartment again.

This is a very nice, simple apartment in a great location.
There are several U-Bahn and S-Bahn stations within a short walk, it's easily walkable to many of the city centre attractions, and there are lots of restaurants and snack bars close by, on Yorckstrasse and Merhingdamm. The beer garden in Viktoria Park is worth a visit too.
The closest 'big' supermarket/shop we found was opposite the swimming pools at Prinzenbad, it's a stop along the line from Hallesches Tor, or walkable if you take a suitcase on wheels.

Everyone seems to cycle, and there's a bike hire place just around the corner - towards the river.

Good points - clean & modern, with a sunny balcony. Very comfortable bed, powerful shower, and a handy little kitchenette. Great area for exploring, restaurants, shops, sightseeing & nightlife, and although there is a bit of a climb to the 3rd floor, but you do get a nice view. The Owner was also very happy to allow us an early arrival.

We weren't left a key for the rubbish area, which was a little awkward as although there was a glass recycling centre across the road, we had nowhere to empty the paper, or general rubbish and we were shouted at by a resident when we tried to empty the bin at another location.
Also there was no sweeping brush or mop (we ended up buying a dustpan and brush), and if staying for more than a weekend the hard floors get a bit grimy.

Tip - take plastics to lidl/supermarkets

The apartment is located in a quiet residential building on the 1st floor (up three flights of stairs) in a decent area of Berlin-Fredrichshain. It's very near to the U-Bahn stops Mehringdamm and Hallesches Tor i.e. easy connections to the city center and other sites.

The apartments has a fairly big living / dining area with TV and a fridge and a double sofa bed.

The bedroom with a double bed, a chest of draws and a clothes rack. it's a tight fit but manageable.

The kitchen is fitted out with a couple of stools and a small table and enough cutlery and crockery for four persons. There's a double hearth, electric kettle and a microwave.

The drawback is the tiny bathroom - it's rather small and with a hand-held shower. The toilet is fine but a bit near the wall so watch your elbow (yow!). A bath towel and hand towel were provided as well as a couple of toiletries.

The big plus is that the apartment is VERY clean and fresh with lots of light. it would have been nice if there was a Swiffer mop or similar to wipe the floors during the stay. A washing machine would make this ideal for a longer stay.

All in all, this is a great alternative to a hotel room and I wouldn't hesitate to use it again!
