Private balcony off master bed room on large lot close to harbor

Two bed rooms, two baths with a full kitchen and comfy living room. There is a very private balcony off the master bed room. We have a large property with nice gardens, lawns and paved parking. We offer access to our private marina 1/2 mile away on the harbor. We have kayaks on our dock and a small row boat for exploring the inner harbor. Barbecue grills and picnic tables on our ocean front decks and docks are the perfect place for a summer barbeque. We are located on the quiet side of Mount Desert Island a 15 minute ride from Bar Harbor's bustling little town where you will find, many bars, restaurants and a cruise ship dock. A nice place to visit during the day. Returning to our house for the peace and quiet of the village of Bernard. There is a public pebble beach 1/2 mile towards the harbor. Thurstons lobster pier restaurant is a 5 minute stroll and there are antique stores,our tiny old library and art gallery's all with in walking distance as well.The closest entrance to Acadia National Park is a 5 minute ride on route 102. This side of the island is blessed with fewer summer visitors making the park carriage roads, hiking and biking trails and the swimming in the ponds less crowded in the summer months.

About Carlton Johnson

I was born and raised here on the Island. After college I returned and started Redfern Boat a boat building and storage business. We also own Up Harbor Marina a private marina on the harbor. I can offer local knowledge for restaurants, hiking, biking trails and swimming holes off the beaten path.

Why Carlton Johnson chose Bass Harbor

This house is part of the historic old school house property. A large property where a town school was built in 1930. Over the years I have long dreamed of owning this important piece of our town's history. We purchased it this spring and have done a complete renovation to this house out on the back of the property that was built in the late 70's. The privacy of this back house and the neighborhood makes it ideal for families to relax and enjoy the property.

What makes this house unique

We wanted a nice house to live in close to the harbor. We also wanted a house that was away from the road and in this old neighborhood. Our neighbors are boat builders, lobster men, crafts people. Having a large green area also makes this property a great location for us to garden and find some shade on those hot summer days.

This completely renovated house is in the village of Bernard. Antique shops, Thurstons lobster pier restaurant, a town waterfront area, and a long heritage of lobster fishing familes make our little village quaint and quiet.

Bass Harbor is the harbor for our town of Tremont where all of the yachts and mostly lobster boats have moorings.We also own the private marina at the head of the harbor .We have around 20 boats tie up here and you will enjoy access to the barbeque grills, docks, decks and our kayaks and row boat on the dock. You can explore the inner harbor by boat!
