THE LOCATION

Osa Mountain Village Resort (OMV) is one of those rare very special places on the planet. With spectacular panoramic ocean views, and located on 750+ acres deep in the jungle forest mountains above the beach on the 'neck' of the Osa Peninsula, OMV is the ideal spot for either that get-away-from-it-all vacation or as homebase for great adventure. Enjoy a myriad of on-site activities from the relaxing and sanguine to the adventurous and exhilarating. As one of the most bio-diverse places on the planet, the resort’s proximity to the Corcovado National Park on the Osa Peninsula provides endless opportunities for new experiences. Wake every morning to the primeval sound of resident howler monkeys and marvel at the sound and sight of more than 200 species of tropical birds that populate the jungle forest.

It is a bit of a challenge to get up the hill from the Costanera Sur (the costal highway) to OMV Resort. Currently, a 4-wheel drive vehicle is suggested to make the climb (advisable for all driving in Costa Rica!), or you can call ahead to arrange for an inexpensive shuttle ride up to the community, leaving your vehicle at the OMV office on the highway.

THE OMV RESORT COMMUNITY

Based on a concept of sustainability, the resort features edible plantings, gardens, and organic farming that provides a large portion of the food resources required for bountiful living. The community center, restaurant, and bar have supplemental solar power.

CLIMATE

At 2000 feet above sea level, Osa Mountain Village Resort is above the sweltering heat and humidity found on the coast. Its location provides the perfect balance for warm tropical comfort and healing from whatever ails you. Daytime temperatures typically run in the middle 80s (upper 20°s Celsius), with nighttime temperatures in the upper 60s and low 70s (low 20°s Celsius).

Even so, humidity can be quite high at times (it is after all a rainforest!), which is why it so nice that our villa is outfitted with both an adjustable roof vent and a dehumidifier. And, remember, you can always take a dip in one of the refreshing community swimming pools, only steps away from the villa.

THE VILLA

Our three bedroom villa is brand new, completely outfitted with all modern conveniences! When you step through the front door, the open floor plan with high vaulted ceilings is a welcome surprise.

Villa Features include:

• Tiled floors throughout

• Granite countertops

• Gas range and stove

• Under-counter lighting

• UPS back-up lighting and power (limited)

• Dehumidifier

• Adjustable roof vent

• Variable speed fans in every room - even on the exterior deck

• Covered exterior deck that looks out toward the jungle mountain

SUSTAINABLE GARDENS & FARM

All rentals include a share of fruits, vegetables, eggs, and meat from the OMV sustainable gardens and farm, which is typically distributed twice per week. Note: It is your responsibility to learn the current days and method of food distribution upon your arrival to take advantage of this unique resort benefit.

AVAILABLE ON-SITE ACTIVITIES & ADVENTURES

Purchase separately on-site, or ask us and we will put a discount package together for you! Please note that the available on-site activities and adventures vary. Please inquire regarding those you can expect to be available during your stay.

• CANOPY TOUR ZIP LINE – For the truly adventurous! 9 cables, 11 platforms, 2 repelling stations, 1 suspension bridge, and an amazing 'Tarzan' swing.

• HIKE TO A WATERFALL – There is a small river and several beautiful waterfalls on the property as well as walking paths that take you up close and personal with all the jungle forest has to offer. Bring a walking stick and some good hiking shoes!

• MOUNTAIN BIKE PATHS – Currently under development are combined use hiking and mountain bike paths that will soon be extended throughout all 750+ acres. The paths will offer a wide variety of difficulty – from those with an average 5° grade to others with much greater challenge.

• OMV VOLUNTEER CENTER – A not-for-profit Volunteer Center provides training in organic farming, permaculture and sustainable living, meals and simple clean lodging, and all the community has to offer in exchange for a small fee and 4 hours of daily work.

• YOGA, WELLNESS & SPIRITUAL RETREATS – Space and facilities are offered for instructors and retreat leaders to bring participants to discover and learn in a beautiful and natural setting that is ideal for prayer, meditation, and reflection.

FLY-N-BUY & PURCHASE REBATES

Many who come for a visit to OMV end up wanting to own a piece of this paradise! Those who do, will receive a Fly-n-Buy rebate on your purchase from the community $1,500 for a single and $2,000 for a couple. In addition to this, we will rebate back to you either half the cost of your initial rental or 1% of the purchase price of your fractional share, villa, condominium, or lot – whichever is greater! Rebates are paid at the time of the final payment for your purchase.

HOUSE SWAP?

Do you have a rental property listed on vrbo.com or homeaway.com? If you do, we may be interested in working out a house swap with you. There are lots of places in the world Lori and I would love to visit. Let’s talk...

About Glenn & Lori Stockton

Glenn & Lori Stockton - We own and manage SwingSetMall.com, a growing internet based business that markets playground equipment for the backyard do-it-yourselfer and commercial use by day cares, schools, and park and recreation areas. We have two grown children – Aaron, who works for Amazon.com as a programmer in Seattle, WA, and Lindsey, who operates a growing home with our three wonderful grandchildren. Andrew is married to Lindsey and is a partner in our playground sales business. We are looking forward to increasing our times away from the day-to-day operation of the business and spending more time with our grandkids and exploring the USA and the world!

Glenn & Lori Stockton purchased this villa in 2011

Why Glenn & Lori Stockton chose Ojochal de Osa

In 2011 we initially purchased a 4-week fractional share of a one-bedroom villa at Osa Mountain Village. But, after visiting the area and the developing resort community, we loved it so much that we decided to build our beautiful three-bedroom villa right in the heart of the resort community. The concept of Osa Mountain Village as a sustainable resort is unique and precedent setting. The surroundings are magnificent, the on-site activities varied and plentiful, and the diversity of wonderful people is invigorating. We use the villa for family vacations and as a retirement investment. And, we welcome you to enjoy it as well. Come! Stay for a week... or a lifetime!

Our Jungle experience

  • 5 of 5

The Villa is very lovely and accommodates 4 adults very nicely. The owners spent a night with us to show us the ropes and familiarize us with jungle living. With early morning wake up calls from the Howler Monkeys to the many walks throughout the surrounding area was tantalizing. There are so many beautiful flowers and birds to enjoy and identify. We spent many hours just relaxing and spending time by the pool while we ordered our meals from the restaurant. The Ticos that ran the restaurant took very good care of us, we felt as tho we had our own personal chef. They were very professional when it came to putting on a special event....ie., Super Bowl Party at the bar and Valentine's Day dinner which was exceptional! The guys went on the Zipline adventure and they will remember the experience for the rest of their lives, it is not for those that don't like thrill rides....The locally grown vegetables and fruits were shared with us twice a week, some were very interesting like Taskisskee. The garden tour is a must to learn how ECO friendly plants are grown and harvested - they even make their own dirt. I will not comment on the road up the mountain as my heart is still in my throat....lol We took several day trips to explore the Southern CR cities and after 18 days in the jungle we chose to move north to explore the northern Guanacaste area.

Beautiful house, with great access to adventure

  • 4 of 5

The house is beautiful , and near adventure facilities such as ziplines, a superman ride , and the "world's longest waterslide." The community has a nice restaurant and swimming pool, and free access to vegetable grown at the local organic farm. See the butterfly house and wildlife sanctuary, both within walking distance.

Some drawbacks: At the top of a steep dirt road, 4x recommended. 20 minutes down to the main road. Bring lots of cash, because the restaurant and attractions do not accept credit cards. The community is growing, so they have sales phone calls to sell houses, but no sales efforts while we were there. Streets are dirt and walkways not accessible.

Owner's Response: So glad you enjoyed your stay in our villa! Yes, the road is steep, but wide and improving – and well worth the journey. Soon there will be regular shuttle service up to OMV. The restaurant and bar now accept credit/debit, and if you purchase the adventure attractions at the OMV office on the highway you can also pay via credit/debit. If purchased on-site, you’re right, cash is the way to go – US dollars or Colones.
