I grew up on a dairy farm 12 miles from Alexandria and pursued veterinary medicine in St Paul. Spent 2 years in US Army and then 43 years practicing vet work until retirement in 2007. I married my dream wife Aggie, and together we operated our home as a Bed and Breakfast for 18 years, and thoroughly enjoyed the hospitality industry as innkeepers. We also purchased a small farm near my birthplace in 1999 and converted it to a native prairie woodland nature preserve. In 2006 we planted our first acre of wine grapes, second a year later, and now have a small boutique winery for guests to enjoy.
We are proud parents of 6 wonderful children and 13 exciting grandchildren who live in Colorado and St Paul.
I live at the Inn in the winter now but will live at our cabin at the vineyards when vacation renters are in the home. Our family is excited about sharing this beautiful home for vacation travelers and preserve the long history of hospitality which this home has provided for so many years.
My wife and I purchased this property in 1995 so Aggie could pursue her dream of innkeeping. All six of our children were adventurous and settled in places we took them on family vacations....leaving an empty nest for us so why not open our home to travelers. Due to Aggie's recent passing, I have decided Vacation Rental will be the best option for this beautiful property.
This home was so well-preserved over the many years when other older homes were bulldozed or converted to apartments, because it was owned by people who really appreciated it's splendor and unique character. For 40 years, Alma Anderson ran it as a Hostess House, hosting teas on the front porch, special dinners for guests, and a meeting place for influential people in town. The house immediately welcomes you when you drive in the circle drive and see the majestic porch and swing. Once inside the front door, you know you have found a very special place to relax, read, converse or just dream about what the walls could tell you if they could talk.
