SPACIOUS BLUFF-TOP HOME WITH EXPANSIVE OCEAN VIEWS

Port Angeles House Rental Photos and Description

4 Bedrooms, 3 Bathroom, max 12 guests

We call this property 'The Aerie on the Strait' in honor of the Bald Eagles' nest hidden at the top of a conifer just above the house. We often hear their cries and see them soaring along the bluffs. The Aerie is ideal for family gatherings, or as a base camp for groups sight seeing and enjoying outdoor activities on the Olympic Peninsula. Situated midway between Sequim and Port Angeles on the coast, it affords guests convenient access to wineries, festivals, and Olympic National Park. To the west, take Highway 112 (the Juan de Fuca Scenic Highway) from Port Angeles to Neah Bay, the Makah Nation and Cape Flattery. Or, take Highway 101 west to Lake Crescent, Sol Duc Hot Springs, the fabled community of Forks and the Quileute Nation at La Push for fishing, surfing and kayaking. Proceed on south to the Hoh Rain Forest. Go east of Sequim to Port Townsend, and on to Whidbey Island. Take the ferry from Port Angeles to Victoria, B.C. Don't forget your passport.

During winter months, the road to Hurricane Ridge is open during winter vacation, weekends and holiday Mondays. Enter 'Hurricane Ridge' in your browser to see current snow conditions, and learn which amenities are open at this family-style ski hill. It is a short drive of about 20 minutes from The Aerie to the main Park Visitor Center. Another 20-30 minute scenic drive from the visitor center takes you to the Hurricane Ridge visitor center. Depending on snow conditions, you can enjoy cross-country or down-hill skiing or touring on snow shoes. There is a tubing hill for kids.

This 3500 sq.ft. three-level home, perched on high-bluff acreage along the Strait of Juan de Fuca, offers privacy in a forested, retreat-like setting. It features a Master Suite with king bed on the top floor. The Great Room, well-equipped Kitchen, open Dining Room with seating for 12, and two bedrooms, each with a pair of twin beds, complete the middle floor. Views from the Great Room and Master Suite include the Strait coastline west to Ediz Hook, traffic in the shipping lanes, with Victoria, B.C. in the distance. The lower floor comprises a bedroom with queen-sized bed, a generously sized Recreation Room and a Laundry. There is one full bathroom on each floor. The Master-Suite bath includes double sinks, separate shower and a soaking tub with ocean view. Access to private decks off of the Master Suite and the Dining Room and to a small patio off the Recreation Room is through sliding glass doors.

We are active retirees who enjoy outdoor activities.

Ruth purchased this house in 2010

We view ourselves as stewards of our lands. This 15-acre property is a part of more than 120 acres of contiguous forest and wetland. We and our neighbors have chosen to promote a mature forest and healthy wetland on this acreage, protecting the diverse wildlife habitat through conservation easements with North Olympic Land Trust.

The North Olympic Peninsula is a magical place. Not too far from major-metropolitan Seattle, two smallish cities, Sequim and Port Angeles, bracket a large unincorporated rural area, of which this property is a part. Each of the two cities offer antiquing, art, festivals, wineries, golf, tennis, parks, marinas and access to beaches. Threading its way all across this peninsula, the Olympic Discovery Trail (ODT), mostly-paved, is used by runners and walkers, bicyclists, and horsemen. Guests can access the ODT about 1/2 mile from the Aerie. The Aerie is a secluded, serene, forested retreat. From here guests can explore Olympic National Park, wander the Olympic Discovery Trail, enjoy the attractions of the nearby cities, or simply relax in spacious privacy.

GREAT HOUSE IN A GREAT AREA!

  • 5 of 5
We (family of 5) stayed here for a week and loved it! The house exceeded our expectations. It has large windows in the living room with a gorgeous view of the Strait, plus was perfect for watching the deer that came wondering through one day without having to go outside and risk spooking them. The master bedroom on the top floor offered nice privacy for my wife and I while the girls had the second (main) floor bedrooms and my son had the "bachelor pad" downstairs! Each floor has it's own bathroom, which was wonderful. The kitchen was nicely laid out and everything was comfortable, clean and well-maintained. It is even on a well system; so good, non-chlorinated and non-fluoridated water for cooking, drinking and bathing - keep this in mind before making the mistake we did and buying bottled water at the store on the way to the house!

The location is terrific also, being secluded on a rural road but still within easy driving distance of most of the main entry points of Olympic NP as well as close to Port Angeles and Sequim stores and restaurants. One of our favorites was Alder Wood Bistro in Sequim - they serve up organic, local, and natural fare, and everything we had was delicious. Safeway had most of what we needed, but there was a nice little organic grocery in Sequim called the Red Rooster. Perfect for those "hard to find" natural items that the bigger stores don't carry. Super nice people there, too, so give them a visit. As for the Park, close to Hurricane Ridge and Crescent Lake and about 2 hours to the breathtaking west coast beaches and Hoh rainforest. Our favorite hikes were Lover's Lane in Sol Duc and Hurricane Hill and High Ridge in the mountains. 2 hours in the other direction gets you to Seattle (via the ferry). We spent a day there and it was well worth a visit. And don't forget to visit one of the many lavender farms in the area.

Just a wonderful vacation home that we couldn't have been happier with. Stop looking, and rent this home!

Owner's Response: Your mention of local organic produce reminds me of something I forgot to highlight about our area: There is yet another wonderful local farm store - Nash's - it is in the Dungeness area. If you are visiting the Dungeness Wildlife Refuge, but also savor locally-grown foods, stop by Nash's to sample what our local farms produce. I've added a link to Nash's website under the location tab for The Aerie.

BEAUTIFUL PLACE

  • 5 of 5
We really enjoyed our stay. The house was clean, comfortable and well supplied. The dining table fit all 8 of us easily. The views from inside and outside are gorgeous. The house is only a few minutes from the town of Port Angeles and several nice grocery stores and restaurants. We traveled all around the Olympic Peninsula using the house as our home base. We saw the bald eagle outside and beautiful sunsets.

OUTSTANDING PROPERTY

  • 5 of 5
The Aerie is a secluded, picturesque and meticulously maintained property located between Port Angeles and Sequim. The house is really lovely: beautiful wood floors and wood furnishings. It is far nicer than the hotels in the area and a wonderful base from which to explore Olympic National Park.

WE LOVE THE HOUSE AND WOULD LIKE TO RECOMMEND IT!

  • 5 of 5
The house is beautiful and great for large group with couples or singles.

We are a High-tech singles group with 2 doctors and 8 engineers from silicon valley. We didn't realize the house was big enough for 12 people, so we also rented a cabin at Log Cabin resort Lake Crescent. Wow, what a big different - Vacation Home is so much better and special this one!

I'm an event organizer, for sure I will bring my group back to this beautiful home - we all love it!
Thanks Ruth for accommodating a large group!

KATHYW

  • 5 of 5
The house was beautiful, well maintained, spotless, and exactly as pictured. The views from the house and the bluff were amazing and must be seen to be believed. We had plenty of room and the home was well equipped for our family group of 11. Very convenient to local attractions, activities, grocery, gas stations, etc.
Best of all, the owner came over in person immediately when we had a minor issue. Don't think we could have found a better place to stay. We will definitely stay at The Aerie if we return to the area.

A TRUE GET-AWAY FEEL!

  • 5 of 5
My stay at the Aerie for a women's retreat was a wonderful experience. The accommodations from super comfortable beds and linens to the open-concept great room was just what we hoped for. The expansive windows invite nature right into the house. We truly felt we were in the trees as we watched eagles soar by. The view of the Strait of Juan de Fuca, the evening sunsets, the walking trails, the sound of the surf all contributed to a sense of retreat. The master bedroom suite upstairs is really special in terms of privacy and views. Three floors of bedrooms and bathrooms meant lots of spaciousness and privacy for the 9 of us. I highly recommend this as a get-away retreat in the Port Angeles / Sequim area. We look forward to a return retreat at The Aerie.
