Christmas & New Year in Munich
Christmas & New Year in Munich

Schliersee Apartment
The Apartment is very conveniently located, just as described, about 2 short blocks away from both the S Bahn (St Martin Strasse S3 &S7) and the No17 tram (which goes through the centre of Munich and then to Schloss Nymphenburg). There are 2 small supermarkets near where you catch the tram, and some other food shops just across the road from the supermarkets.
The Apartment is very clean, and the owners are helpful and freindly. If you have a family or a group then the two toilets and showers are a nice bonus for getting everyone up and ready. There is a step into both showers which might make them unsuitable for the elderly or infirm without assistance.
The kitchens (there are two) in the Apartment are well provided with pots, implements etc for home cooking. My only remark here is that a second oven rack would make things easier for winter cooking.
We stayed over Christmas and New Year (Silvester) and the Apartment was very cosy and warm. Christmas is a fun time to be in Munich with the lights and Christmas Markets, some of which are really different to ones in other cities, like the Medieval Market at Wittelsbacher Platz. On New Year’s Eve being on the 5th floor meant we got a great view of the fireworks that the people of Munich love to set off and the sound really echoes off the buildings too.
There is a lot to do and see in Munich – but most things are shut on the 25th Dec and 1st Jan, and you will also need to check which attractions are open on 26th and the 31st Dec. However, the Bayern Card makes it cheap to travel by train around the region and the ski fields are open on all these days. A day trip to the Zugspitze by train makes for a very white Christmas! Depending where you are coming from, you need to be aware that shops in Germany, including the supermarkets, are shut on Sundays. But if you are travelling you will find the food outlets at the Hauptbahnhof, the regional stations and ski-fields are open.
We really enjoyed our time in Schlerisee, and would happily recommend it as a great place to stay.
