About Dan Reece

Dean and Dan are long time mates from the midwest USA. They and their wives, Alison and Leslie, are enchanted with the Riviera Maya and enjoy sharing it with others.

Dan Reece purchased this house in 2010

Why Dan Reece chose Tulum

Paraiso Tankah is a quiet stretch of Caribbean shore lined with private homes. It is close to Tulum and many area attractions. We built Dos Bahias to optimize its setting, with all rooms having floor to ceiling glass facing the Caribbean.

What makes this house unique

Dos Bahias has a unique, contemporary design. The first floor has a pocket wall that can partition the space into two units. The second floor master suits are separated by an open terrace area. There is a full outdoor cooking and dining area next to the pool and beach.

Fantastic Home and Location

  • 5 of 5

My family of 4, which includes a 9 and 13 year old, stayed for one week at this fantastic home in Tulum. Everything about our stay was wonderful. The ownership, the staff and even the security guards went overboard to make our stay enjoyable.

This is a beautiful property in a uniques setting with many activities nearby. The house was clean, very well laid out and spacious. The views, pool and many decks are fantastic. The cleaning and house staff were also excellent.

Another Beautiful vacation at Casa dos Bahias

  • 5 of 5

This time old college friends from Iowa, Wisconsin and Illinois joined us. The house was perfect for 4 couples. We were SO taken care of by our maid Lizbeth and the property manager Agustin was at our beckon call for any needs we may have had. The pool/grounds keeper kept the pool and patio pristine throughout our stay and the night security staff were all very kind.

So much to do, but our favorite spot was at the house with its spectacular views and quietness with only the waves to hear. Even if we were partying the night before we all enjoyed getting up to watch the sunrise on the Caribbean..breathtaking!

The Blue Sky Restaurant down the road has expanded their menu and it is delicious. The Lo Ha at Akumal Bay is great for breakfasts and dinners. We got to see the Flamenco dancers on Wed. night. The Tulum ruins were so intriguing and what a treat at he end! We spent several days at the Tulum beaches (gorgeous) with lunch at Ziggy's and Ana y Jose's. The ladies had massages at Ana's. Recommend! One couple went on a tour of the Sian Ka'an Biosphere and enjoyed the adventure.

We all attended mass at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Tulum. Loved seeing all the gracious, happy families at church.

What can we say..everyday was perfect. Even the road to the highway had just been graded and was very smooth. Our only complaint is that we have to wait another year to return.

Fantastic Family Vacation!

  • 5 of 5

Our extended family of 8 rented this home for the Thanksgiving holiday week, and had a fantastic time. I’ll start with the good: The house is just as pictured, only much more luxurious. You can enjoy beautiful and breathtaking sunrises right from your bed every morning. There is plenty of space to sit and relax, enjoy each other or sneak away for private time. The staff at the home make you feel very well-taken care of. Augustin checked on us regularly, and LizBeth made sure the home was well-cleaned every day. Even Estevan took care of the grounds with exceptional detail. Every question or clarification we needed – when we needed extra towels, for example, were taken care of quickly.

We were able to find groceries nearby in Tulum – actually more than a grocery store, more of a Super WalMart. They have everything. And we had some good meals at local restaurants. We made great use of the grill on the patio, and the kitchens are well-equipped. The house is near the ruins, and we headed out to Coba and Tulum to enjoy them. We even took in the new Cirque du Soleil show in Playa del Carmen (typical Cirque show, nice acrobatics, but a little too short actually – it’s only an hr).

The kids noticed 2 lizards living the in bush just to the edge of the patio. They calmly came out to sun themselves daily and delighted the children, scurrying away as the little ones got too close. Can’t say the same for the friendly dogs that came around randomly just to say hi. And a highlight for kids and adults alike were the baby turtles hatching at the edge of the patio and making their way to the ocean one evening we were using the grill.

We felt safe on the property and at the house with the security onsite – dedicated to the property and the neighborhood patrols. There are many sliding glass doors and doors to outside, so we were sure to check all of the doors and locks to make sure everything was secure.

And so the bad: The road! It was end of rainy season, but be forewarned! The road to the house is a disaster, crater-filled mess. Regular cars travel the road fine, but be prepared for a super bumpy ride for 20 mins after turning off the main road. The waiters/servers at a restaurant down the road Casa Cenote (while incredibly nice) seem to have swiped or shared my credit card number and tried to go on a shopping spree 300 miles away. Thank goodness the bank shut it down quickly.

Overall, we had a fantastic family vacation!

Owner's Response: We're glad to hear you had a wonderful vacation and thanks for the review. The road is very rough this time of year. Now that the rains have dissipated, the road is scheduled to be grated next week and will be much better. We hope you can visit us again.

A Trip to Paradise

  • 5 of 5

I rented this home on my 5 day excursion to Tulum, and I loved every moment of it! The first night I came in late, and was greeted by the night security. He introduced himself, and let me know if there was anything I needed, that I should just ask! Upon entering I was quite pleased! Every room had a breathtaking view! There were air conditioning units in every area, clean sheets, and a pool overlooking the ocean. Needless to say I spent quite some time joyously taking it all in.

For dinner I went to a place just up the road, I forget the name, but it had a picture of a manatee on the sign. The owner, Gary, was our waiter and served the most wonderful banana daiquiris. They were only dwarfed by the view. The price was very cheap, and I was glad there was such a great restaurant so close to home!

The second day I spent relaxing at the house. The staff that came to clean were very friendly, and paid good attention to detail. My main concern of the day was trying to figure out if I liked the the balcony view or the ground floor view better. I ended up having to split my time.

The next few days I enjoyed being about 10-15 minutes from the ruins and a plethora of good restaurants, and snorkel locations.

My last night I ventured to the top of the house. I found that the owners had placed lounge chairs up the third flood, most likely for star gazing so I thought I'd give it a try. The only time I saw the stars in that clarity was out when I visited Yellowstone. I felt like I could see the entire milky way, and was thoroughly kicking myself for not finding this out sooner! A 10 minute star gaze quickly turned to 2 hours! I ended the night by opening my windows and listening to the calms waves of the ocean an I drifted to sleep.

Overall the worst part of the trip was leaving. The house was lovely, and well beyond my expectations. I hope to visit again very soon!

Fabulous vacation

  • 5 of 5

I've just returned from one of the most relaxing vacations of my life. I've made frequent trips to the Riviera Maya in the past decade and have stayed in a great variety of rental properties. Casa 2 Bahias is bar-none the most beautiful place I've ever stayed anywhere in the world. This is the second time I've stayed at the property since it has opened and both times were spectacular. Notable changes since my previous trip were the addition of some free kayaks to use as well as a new security guard. The house is very private and we felt particularly safe pulling up at night knowing there was somebody watching the property.

The staff was phenomenally helpful and gracious. We were personally checked in by the property manager and he made sure all of our needs were met. The cleaning staff left the home sparkling every day, even when we had accidentally tracked sand into the house. Everyone we dealt with was kind and eager to please.

What I found particularly pleasing was how simple the trip was. I was initially apprehensive for the stay because I was bringing a travel companion who was not familiar with the area. We did debate staying at one of the large all inclusives to help ease him into the new surrounding, but in the end we opted for more privacy. We were both very satisfied with our stay and the amenities available. We were initially unable to use the TV (user-error) but the property manager was able to get it up and running for us the next day. Our trip was completely smooth and chaos free. Every morning we woke up to beautiful sunlight on a private stretch of beach. We were blessed with calm weather and even had some turtle nests right on the beach in front of the home. At night you can sleep to the sounds of crashing waves. Our final evening was so perfect and clear that we sat on the roof and star gazed for hours.

Added benefits: Tulum and the ruins are a 10 minute drive away so we had all the tourism we could possibly want. This property really has it all! If you are the type who wants to be on the go during the day then Tulum, Playa del Carmen, Coba, and Cancun are all available for a quick day trip. At the end of the day you get to return to quite paradise. We used to stay in Akumal but lately have found it to be very overcrowded. Tankah has been a wonderful trade-off, accessible yet serene and peaceful. 10/10 would recommend to all my friends and hope to bring a larger group down for our spring trip! Dreaming of Tankah!
