My family stayed at Sarah & Tom's cottage for a vacation to get away from the city (Los Angeles) and see some friends up north. The cottage was wonderful. It was peaceful and comfortable and the views of the hills from the deck are amazing. The deck itself is roomy with plenty of seating for outdoor barbecues and dinners. Sarah and Tom are warm, easy-going and very responsive. We've stayed in a lot of cottage and apartment rentals through VRBO and this was one of the best, down to the little details. There's good coffee in the kitchen and a french press for making it. The big chef's knife is sharp! It was so easy to be there.
There's one queen bed, but Sarah has a twin bed that's available as well. We have a toddler son who slept on the twin bed at the base of the big bed.
If you're up for a little workout, the Ladera Shopping Center is about a mile away and it's a beautiful, hilly walk to get groceries, coffee or eat at the local restaurants. There are trails nearby as well. We enjoyed a couple afternoons at the Astradero Preserve, a very short drive from the cottage, which I highly recommend if you're a walker/runner/hiker/mountain biker.
Overall, we highly recommend this cottage!!
This was a sweet place to stay. It was comfortable, attractive, clean, well-equipped, and on a beautiful street with a great view from the window and the deck. The owners are accommodating and considerate of the needs of travelers. Highly recommended.
We stayed at Sarah's during a college reunion. It was great to be in the beautiful hills, away from the built up valley. Sarah kindly allowed our young kids to stay there as well, and provided us with a blow-up mattress to make that possible. She even left a welcoming treat!
I've stayed at Sarah's guest apartment during 2 business trips to the Palo Alto area. The property is in a serene and beautiful setting, but it is easy to access central Palo Alto, SF, or anywhere else in the Bay based on the proximity to I-280. The apartment is always clean and well-stocked, and it is surprisingly large. The bedroom and bathroom are on the "main" level, and the kitchen and eating area are down a short flight of stairs but still enjoy a beautiful view across the deck to the trees and north through the Bay.
Finding a property like this in Palo Alto feels like finding a true "gem". I highly recommend it as a home base for business or personal travel in the Bay Area!
My wife and I stayed here twice, for about 5 days each, in Autumn 2014, as a base for family matters at Stanford Hospital. It was an ideal little slice of privacy and normalcy in otherwise stressful trips. It's a simple and elegant little place, clean, with lovely views from the bedroom and the deck off the kitchen, which has outdoor tables for eating or just sitting with the hummingbirds. The wifi worked flawlessly, and there's quite a nice little speaker system for mp3 players. The kitchen was well enough equipped that we cooked most of our meals in (there's a good, if expensive, grocery in nearby Ladera Country Shopper center). Though close quarters with the main house, we never felt we were in the way or were being watched. Sarah was helpful and responsive from booking through damage deposit refund. We found that the whole experience(s) perfectly met our needs.
Note that there are flights of stairs to navigate from street to bedroom/bath level, and again from there to kitchen level, so those who struggle with them might not find it as ideal.
Beautiful and convenient location! Ten minutes to Stanford University and Palo Alto. This area is popular for hiking, biking and horse riding. It’s also only a 30 minute drive to San Francisco. Less than five minutes to a shopping center that has a quaint market and restaurants.
