About Rich Summit View

Our family has been vacationing in Boone since 2003 and have been in love with the area ever since. We particularly love getting out on the Blue Ridge Parkway, Moses Cone Property and Grandfather Mountain for trail hikes.

Rich Summit View purchased this cabin in 2013

Why Rich Summit View chose Boone

After much searching, we chose this property for is proximity to nature, seclusion, mountain views and the way the cabin sits on the land. Because of the southern exposure the morning sun lights up the house with natural light and keeps the deck and living room warmer in the winter. Where we are located we can head out in any direction and be in Virgina, or Tennessee in a very short time. Since we are close to the TN border and Watauga Lake we can head there for Rafting or kayaking. Being close to Todd means bicycling or running on Railroad Grade road and we are 5 miles away from Elk Knob State Park, a newly opened park that covers and protects 3,473 acres the second highest peak in Watauga County.

What makes this cabin unique

Our side deck, Master Bedroom and Living room all look out onto Rich Mountain. The sun rises over this mountain and shines into the house providing tons of natural light. In the evening sun sets over our front deck which gives you a different perspective of the surrounding trees, colors in the sky are different each day. Get out and take a walk through the neighboring apple orchard or trails.. enjoy yourself.

One our favorite things about the cabin is the quiet and seclusion that surround our home – you can curl up with a good book or play a board game, with only the birds, wind, and creek as your soundtrack. You'll also love relaxing in our hot tub, kicking back on our deck in the rocking chairs and watching the sunset, counting the constellations, or just enjoying a beverage. But if you're itching to get out and explore, we have quite a few recommendations.

Owner's Response: We are so pleased you stayed at our cabin. We know it was a long drive from Des Moines Iowa to our cabin but so glad you found it worth it! We were there the weekend before you arrived and were able to take in the start of the leaves changing, to walk through the apple valley below and see the sun setting several nights.. it is truly peaceful there. Thanks again, Theresa

Would love to live here!!

We had an absolutely fantastic stay at your cabin; thanks so much for sharing it! It was so peaceful and secluded, yet very close to what we wanted to do. The cabin was very clean, super comfortable, and we really appreciated the extras that were available for our use in the kitchen (cooking spray, condiments, etc.) The view from the deck was gorgeous, and we spent our evenings star gazing from the hot tub. The cabin is a good base camp to visit Boone, Blowing Rock, Valle Crucis, and is right near the Tennessee border. The owner provided several restaurant and hiking recommendations and everything we tried, we loved. Restaurant highlights included the Coyote Kitchen (the best Chipotle style bowls we have EVER had) and Joy Bistro (Tripadvisor reviews very accurate), both in nearby Boone. We hiked the summit trail at Elk Knob State Park, and enjoyed the beautiful views from the peak that go on for miles. The cabin is also located about an hour from Yadkin wine area. We hit 3 wineries on the Swan Creek wine trail; Raffaldini Vineyards was our favorite (both wines and views). We did not want to leave and loved our visit so much, that we have already booked a return stay and cannot wait!

Owner's Response: Thank you for staying at Rich Summit View. We are tickled that you loved staying there and are coming back soon. Each time we come up we try to add something else, whether it be new spices, a piece of decor or just working on the landscaping. We love being exactly where we are because of the higher elevation brings cooler air, peaceful surroundings and our full on view of the mountains. We are headed up soon so I hope to have some new places to recommend! Thank you for your tips on places you went as well. Even though we have been coming up to this area for over 11 years there are still tons of things to do and see for us too.

cozy cabin in the mountains

  • 5 of 5
My husband and I decided to take our dog, bailey, on her first vacation. We wanted to explore the boone area and wanted a cabin to come home to at the end of the day. We were looking for convince, price, location and pet friendly. We found just that at rich summit view! The cabin was a short drive from boone, nice secluded location pet friendly and in our price range. This cabin was homey, had a great view and had everything we need for relaxing. The hot tub was great to have after a long day of hiking, sitting there and looking up at the mountain topped it off! The cabin was close to shopping and dining in boone and blowing rock, it was also conviently located for access to the blue ridge parkway and other nearby cities. Our dog seemed to really enjoy herself, she was perfectly happy relaxing on the open porch or curled up next to the sliding doors overlooking the mountain. We really hope to get back to this beautiful area and stay at rich sumitt view again!

Family Time

  • 5 of 5
We had a wonderful time at your amazing cabin. Loved the great room, as everyone was together most of the time. The deck and hot tub were a hit with everyone, along with the rocking chairs. Our doggies enjoyed the deck as much as we did, as there was always some shade for them to catch a quick nap. The quiet and private surrounding were a pleasant break for us. Its was a short stay, but once we arrived we did not leave!

Notes:
This is a true get-away. Unless you currently live on a mountain and have this kind of privacy, its very different. You will feel secluded but happy in knowing there are neighbors close by even if you can't see them from the cabin. It's really wonderful at night to turn out all the lights and sit on the deck. Many nights you will see no other house lights due to the foliage, the sky is clear and the stars seem brighter than ever. We have personally seen deer in the area and have heard of other critters like Wild Turkey, Grouse, and the occasional bear. ** 4WD (all wheel drive), chains or sometimes both when visiting our cabin in the winter months. All other times of the year it is accessible with standard vehicle (we have a typical 4 door sedan we use for non-winter driving and a 4x4 for Winter with Chains in the back just in case) Our roads are maintained and scraped during periods of snow and ice. Please discuss with management if you are not familiar with driving in snow/ice.
