Guestbook comments from the owner

Carole Stone author of : 'The Ultimate Guide to Successful Networking' said of her stay in 2004, 'La Plantade is a very personal villa in which to entertain both family and friends on holiday. The shady terrace and the garden were particularly admired by guests.'

Huw Radley wrote: “In July 2004 we spent two glorious weeks at La Plantade which is perfectly located in idyllic Tourrettes sur Loup. Most memorable are the wonderful views from the superb, all round well sheltered terrace and upper main bedroom – the distant sea, the mountains, and a perfect view of the village - which in itself is such a delight. Don’t miss market day on Wednesday for some additional local delicacies. Our plans to explore the Cote d’Azur were somewhat put on hold given the temptation to just chill out at the poolside, and enjoy the ambiance of the villa and its beautiful gardens. Having said that, access to the entire region is within a very short drive - and well worth the effort.'

May Vacation at La Plantade

  • 5 of 5
We have just returned from a beautiful vacation at 'La Plantade' in Tourrettes-sur-Loup. This lovely villa is located at the foot of the Maritime Alps with gorgeous views of the hillside medieval village and the Mediterranean in the distance. We enjoyed meals under the shaded patio overlooking rose gardens, manicured grounds and the sparkling pool. Brilliant sunshine, deep blue skies, and temperatures in the low 70's was the perfect climate for May.

The home itself is furnished with some outstanding antiques, paintings and sculptures, yet is modern and up-to-date with amenities like a dishwasher, wi-fi, and washer and drier. We found everything we needed.

The short walk to the village became an almost daily excursion....an excuse to buy fresh breads, quiches and croissants. Everything is available, especially on Wednesday mornings at the open-air market in the village square. We bought vegetables, flowers, olives prepared in many ways, spices and even Provençal table cloths!

The local bus lines are an efficient and inexpensive (€1) way to get around, but we found a car allowed us to see other, less accessible, attractions. One especially notable trip was first to the 'Florian Candied Fruit Factory', followed by a stop at 'Saut de Loup' waterfalls and a winding road trip up to the top of a mountain to see Gourdon, and its 11th century château. It offers views of the Mediterranean, Antibes, Cannes as well as snow-capped distant mountains. Little cafés, restaurants, and tourist amenities add to the charm of this location.

Our time was filled with visits to Molinard Perfume Factory and Museum, the waterfront marina in Antibes and its Old Town, and casual afternoons at Kristin's café, 'Chocolats et Bonbons' in Tourrettes. We also enjoyed a farewell evening with a glass of wine, a platter of cheese and baguettes at 'La Cave' in Tourrettes where locals and Brits gather on Friday nights.

'La Plantade' is the perfect home-away-from home, comfortable, well located for the village as well as excursions further afield, peaceful and an ideal way to absorb the friendly local atmosphere of food, architecture, color, history and charm.

No one could ask for more.

Perfect holiday in perfect property

  • 5 of 5
We have just returned from a wonderful holiday at La Plantade. The house is in a beautiful setting with stunning views of the village and surrounding hills. On a clear day you can see the sea in the distance. There are many spots to sit and enjoy the view and the sunshine. The terrace around the pool is a real suntrap and the garden is large and well cared for.

The house is in the Provencal style and is furnished with antiques and unique pieces. It is very tasteful and comfortable. Everything has been chosen carefully, so that you instantly feel at home. Unlike most holiday villas, La Plantade has character and you really will find everything you need or wish for. Everything works well and, although the house is traditional in style, the appliances are modern and of superior quality. Mme Agrell has been very charming and helpful throughout the booking process and Anthony, the caretaker during our stay, could also not have done more to help us enjoy our stay.

We loved Tourrettes-sur-Loup, which is just how you imagine a French village in the South of France; plenty of small shops, art galleries, a fantastic weekly market and games of boules in the village square. Vence is not far away at all and the old town is very pretty with even more restaurants and plenty going on. All in all, it is a great location, as the hills are quieter and cooler than the coast at night, but you can get to the coast in less than half an hour. There are so many places to visit; Nice, Cannes, Antibes, St Paul de Vence, but you may find that, like us, you are so happy relaxing by the pool that you have to leave many of them for another visit!

May 2014 Adventure

  • 4 of 5
Our group of 8 adults spent 4 nights at La Plantade in late May 2014. We had driver/guides taking us to many quaint hill towns and posh seaside locations, so didn't spend much time relaxing at the villa. However, it was a lovely location with views of green hills and the medieval village. We walked on the pedestrian pathway to the village for supplies and meals. We recommend Le Relais des Coches restaurant, which is the closest to the villa, for dinners. The view from the terrace is delightful and the food was very good. The pizza, there, was the best we had in France. The owners, Gerard and Martina, were very helpful and accommodating. They spend their winters near us in Naples, FL. We, also, ate outside at L'Epicerie, the creperie at the edge of the village, and loved our food. Even the simplest dish was amazingly good!

The villa and grounds are beautiful with lots of roses. We didn't swim as it was a bit too cool, yet, but the pool was very inviting. The pergola pictured outside the dining area is no longer there. The downstairs guest bath has no shower now, as the washer/dryer takes up that space. The kitchen was very small and the inside dining table was too small for 8. Preparing breakfast was not easy in such a small space. If weather is warm, eating outside on the terrace would provide space for a group such as ours.

Owner's Response: I'm glad that you enjoyed the villa although found some aspects different to those you expected despite the description on the website of the size of the kitchen and of the downstairs WC having no shower. The indoor table can easily accommodate 12 with the addition of a leaf which the caretaker would have been happy to help you with. The outside tables can accommodate a total of 19. I apologise for the fact that the pergola collapsed recently and could not be repaired in time for your visit but it will be seen to at the end of this season. I hope that these issues did not overshadow your stay and that I may welcome you back sometime soon.

Great property excellent location and grounds

  • 4 of 5
We stayed nine days at La Plantade and enjoyed every minute of it. The outside area is very beautiful and set up nicely for outside enjoyment. You will find yourself spending most of your time out here eating, drinking and enjoying the beautiful view. The property is very well maintained. Bathrooms are newly renovated. The layout of the bedrooms make this property ideal for sharing while still having privacy--two bedrooms upstairs with bathroom, one large bedroom downstairs with en suite bathroom and the studio.
The town of Tourrettes is within easy walking distance on a pedestrian pathway. I have spent a lot of time in the south of France but never really spent time here. I am glad this property gave me the opportunity to get to know this town. It has some excellent restaurants and great stores..wine store, bakeries, meat markets, produce, small grocery store. You can find every thing you need here. Very easy to explore the south of France from this location.
The owner is very responsive and accommodating. I would not hesitate to stay here again on my next visit.

Owner's Response: It's delightful to hear from someone who has recently become familiar with Tourrettes-sur-Loup, one of the famous 'perched villages' of the 'arrière pays'. I'm so glad you enjoyed its proximity to much of interest in the South of France - museums, art galleries, good cuisine, etc. And I'm very pleased you found 'La Plantade' to your liking. Please do come back!

THE HOME WE WERE LOOKING FOR...

  • 5 of 5
When you rent a home via internet there might always be uncertainties, even though the website you use is proved to be reliable.
Sometimes photos do not fully reflect the real conditions of the property and so on.
Actually, when we found La Plantade on HomeAway, we were immediately caught by the wonderful pictures of the house, which appeared to us as an ideal place to spend a relaxing period with the family and friends.
Of course we were wondering whether the house was as beautiful as it appeared in the photos. Anyhow, in a few minutes we decided that this was the place were we wanted to spend the last days of 2013 and the beginning of the new year.
In a couple of days we were already at La Plantade, after having received detailed and informative e-mails from its very kind owner, Ms. Agrell.
At our arrival Ms. Agrell warmly welcomed us and offered an amazing visit of the property, from the garden to the inside, from room to room... We immediately realised that the photos posted on the property website perfectly corresponded to the real condition of the house. Something was however missing in the photos, that is the atmosphere that you feel inside the house which you can experience only when you are there. This was finally an added value to our holiday.
There were 9 of us in the house (two families) and there were enough room (and privacy) for everybody as well as spaces for kids to play.
The house was clean and anything we needed was there.
Ms. Agrell was so kind to provide us with precious suggestions on what to do, in a friendly but discreet way. We always felt that she was available if we needed any help or information, which is not always the case when you rent a house abroad.
We were at La Plantade during winter, but the mild climate enabled us to have lunch in the terrace and the kids to play in the garden. Anyhow, we are now looking forward rent the property in Spring or Summer. We are sure we will be back again!

A PERFECT VACATION

  • 5 of 5
My family of four & I together with some good friends had the pleasure of staying in La Plantade – a private Villa less than 5 minutes walk from the lovely medieval village of Tourrettes sur Loup. This village has very good bakeries, restaurants, butcher shop, gift shops, stores, art galleries, etc. and a post office. Everything is within reach.

Due to our long journey, we prearranged our first night’s dinner with the gardienne, Madame Soussi. We decided this excellent idea the last minute, and since she lives locally, she was able to accommodate us.

La Plantade is a comfortable, quiet, nicely furnished Villa with antiques and some lovely pieces of artwork. It has large living spaces with many windows, and good size bathrooms. The kitchen is very functional and well equipped for our needs. We enjoyed most of our meals in the large balcony overlooking the picturesque village of Tourrettes sur Loup. The swimming pool and the beautiful garden are well maintained. The Villa is very charming inside and out!

The owner, who is well acquainted with Cote D’Azur, is very kind and helpful.
We were supplied with plenty of information for our adventures/activities, and excellent recommendations for restaurants in the area. Our best meals were experienced at the Clovis, Les Baccanales, La Colombe d’Or, and also at Café de Paris in Monaco.

While we stayed only 9 days in La Plantade, we managed to spend a day in Antibes and Cannes, and explored some nearby quaint villages of Vence, Saint Paul de Vence, Biot, Valbonne, and Grasse. Every one of these villages has something special to offer-- from gourmet restaurants, museums, to art galleries. Sadly, we were not able to make the visit to Gourdon, which was highly recommended by the owner.

The owner and Madame Soussi have certainly made our stay as pleasant as possible. It was one of our most relaxing and enjoyable vacations.
We definitely hope to return soon, and stay longer!

Tourrettes-sur-Loup is a beautiful medieval village situated on a hilltop overlooking the blue Mediterranean and its adjacent promontories. Built as a refuge over 1200 years ago against the invasions of the Saracens it became in the 20th century a place renowned for attracting artists of all persuasions: poets, painters, musicians, sculptors, film directors and movie stars. Among these were Humphrey Bogart, Ingrid Bergman, Claude Lelouche (of 'A Man and a Woman' fame), and Jacques Prévert.

Today its narrow pedestrian streets contain a wealth of artistic shops. There are art galleries, textile weavers, ceramic potteries and original jewellers. Four outstanding restaurants nestle in its alleyways.

Ten minutes away is famous St. Paul-de-Vence with its innumerable art galleries and the renown Fondation Maeght, home to a vast collection of Miro's, Giacometti's, Calder's, etc.

Further afield to the south the glamour and sophistication of Nice offer exciting nightlife complete with casinos, theatres, concert halls and the opera together with high-end world-class shopping.

The excitement of Cannes and its film festival are only 35-40 minutes away while Antibes with its world-class marina - considered the biggest and best in the Mediterranean - is even closer. Its elegant centre and fascinating Picasso waterfront museum are not to be missed.

Going north you encounter the romantic 'arrière pays' where life continues in the old ways and for the daring sport enthusiast there is paragliding and even skiing in the winter at Gréolieres.

Often at Christmas time you can be sitting in your shirtsleeves in the sunshine enjoying the view to the Mediterranean while contemplating the afternoon's skiing expedition!

Notes:
Because 'La Plantade' contains very good quality antique furniture it is generally not advisable to bring small children. The layout of the house is as follows: a 2-story Main House (having a Master Bedroom & En suite Bathroom on the ground floor and 2 further Bedrooms - 1 Double & 1 Twin - sharing a Bathroom on the 1st floor) with a lower ground floor Studio containing a Kitchenette with Bathroom and Twin Beds. The latter is adjacent to the pool. The large Reception Room with open fireplace and adjoining Dining Room on the ground floor (see photograph) is surrounded by a sunny terrace and a shaded pergola where there is a dining table for 8 people and another for 4. The Kitchen is small after the Provençal fashion but serviceable with all the necessary equipment from microwave to dishwasher. Washing machine and drier are next door in the downstairs cloakroom. Typical French shutters keep out the worst of the heat in high summer but fans are provided. In winter heating is electric.
