Peace, quiet and tranquility

We stayed at Pink Gate Cottage for two weeks over Christmas and New Year 2009/10.
Central heating supported by a fireplace and a wood burning stove, Sky for the cold evenings, views of the Atlantic, local provisions available and it was well appointed, well furnished, clean, well maintained and wonderfully quiet. A good folder of clear instructions too.
Put it another way, we were struggling to think of what the owners could have done better with the property.
One of the owners (Tim) came to say hello and make sure all was OK, and that was the last we saw of them for two weeks although he was on call if we needed.
We hiked a lot, weather permitting, and the cottage is well placed for Valentia sans car (obviously), and it's a short drive to Caherciveen for the bigger hills or south to mountain passes and more coast.
Most of rural Ireland was closed at this time of year of course, but the candle shop was still working (now he /does/ need to work on his frontage), and the shops in Port Maghee were open for provisions and so forth.
In Caherciveen QC's was a great find for a restaurant, and Helen's Coffee House was a welcome retreat on cold lunchtimes. They were the best of the set we tried during our stay.
If you're after a place to stay on the West coast, Pink Gate cottage is thoroughly recommended.
