Overview

Ojochal de Osa Villa Rental Photos and Description

Two Bdrm Main Casa, 2 Brdm Cabina, 1 Bdrm Jungle Pad, 5 Bdrms, 4 Baths, Slps 10

On the ocean side of the two bedroom main villa a beautiful infinity pool overlooks a butterfly garden, the valley and ocean below. There is a rancho with hammock and jungle and ocean views. Also, a back patio offers a shaded area for afternoon relaxing and bird watching. The self contained cabina offers two bedrooms and a shared bathroom. An outdoor kitchen (cabina) offers amazing ocean views and sits at the edge of the jungle. One hundred and ninety concrete steps lead to a river which drops off into a 200' waterfall. Fresh water shrimp can be caught here -- if you're quick with a net. The steps are through the jungle with passion flowers, buttress trees, and many of Costa Ricas coloured frogs along the way. Both dwellings are A/C equipped although the breeze at this elevation means the A/C is rarely required. This is a new property built in 2012 and beautifully landscaped with flowering shrubs and fruit trees. The Jungle Pad, built in 2014, adds another bedroom with two twin beds and its own bathroom, bringing sleeping capacity for the property to 10. It is truly an amazing property.

About Dorothy and Len MacDonald

We are retired Canadians, residents in the Kawartha Lakes area of Southern Ontario. We have always loved travelling and spending time with our four grown children and ten grandchildren. Recently three great-grandchildren have been added to the family. I have always loved orchids and owning this property allows me to indulge in this passion.

Dorothy and Len MacDonald purchased this villa in 2012

Why Dorothy and Len MacDonald chose Ojochal de Osa

After visiting many areas of Costa Rica over a period of 12 years we finally found our property in the Cascada Sandalo development near the village of Tres Rios. We built and developed our home and property during 2012 and totally love it. The property boasts a mature mango tree and a spring fed river at the bottom of a ravine in the jungle that can be reached by 190 concrete steps. The river ends in a 200 foot waterfall.

A unique property.

What makes this villa unique

The cooling breezes at the 1000 ft elevation of our home. The many waterfalls and rivers in the area. It is so cool to look down on the mists rising from the rivers in the valley below us. The toucans and aracaris visit twice daily and pizotes and monkeys often. Occasionally a sloth. We have also seen macaws, laughing falcons, and hawks from our patio. It is so... peaceful!

Perfect

  • 5 of 5
I stayed with my family at Casa Orquidea for four wonderful days. The house is surrounded by lush gardens and the rainforest, up in a mountain with an amazing view of the sea.

We enjoyed sunsets from the pool and cooked great meals at the fully equipped kitchen, including a couple of barbecues outside. The rooms were very comfortable and we woke up with the sound of singing birds every morning. Trekking to the nearby river was lots of fun, as well as chilling in the hammock and enjoying a drink by the pool.

I fully recommend staying at Casa Orquidea, the longer the better!

Beautiful Villa

  • 5 of 5
Our family of 5 visited Costa Rica for first time and stayed at Casa de Orquidea for 10 days. Distance from San Jose about 4 hours, an easy drive. The house sits about 1000 feet above sea level and has a spectacular view of ocean, undulating hills and rain forest. 4 wheel drive preferred as drive up the mountain is steep. Perfect for birdwatchers as every morning begins and ends with wonderful sounds and sites. Howler monkeys off in the distance and toucans, hummingbirds and many other species easily seen. Pool is perfect and refreshing. Home is beautifully constructed and everything needed for cooking is available. Owners are very helpful before arrival and neighbors (Hamilton's) offered info about a river walk nearby which was loads of fun. Do it for sure and it's free! Other worthwhile activities included a kayak/snorkel trip, zip lining, Cano Island for diving and a river/ocean trip to Corcovado (saw an Agouti), leaving from Siempre. All nicely arranged through Karen at Tourist and Business Center in Ojochal krath1@me.com She is wonderful. Restaurants to die for but advance reservations (before you arrive) are a must. Great eating spots were: Citrus and, Ylang Ylang , Exotica in Ojochal and Roadshack in Uvita. (reservation not necessary). Perfect stay for our family. We are very happy to have experienced Casa de Orquidea!

Romantic Getaway!

  • 5 of 5
We've heard so many amazing things about Costa Rica, that we have just had to come and experience it for ourselves. And what better way to experience the true Costa Rican culture, then to stay at a private villa right in the the heart of the jungle 1100 feet about the ocean level.

The drive up to the Casa was breathtaking on its own, but when we arrived at Casa de Orquidae, we were amazed at what we saw. The Casa is surrounded by gorgeous tropical flowers and the lower plantel planted with tropical fruit trees that we were encouraged to use. The gardener had hung a large bunch of bananas enabling me to bake fresh banana bread.

There was so much to experience and lots to do. We were there for 10 days and not once did we even think about the internet or tv, although there is access to WiFi at the Villa. Having our morning coffee sitting at the rancho grabbing a fresh banana off the bunch, listening to the howler monkeys, watching the white faced monkeys swinging from the trees and toucans and blue morpho butterflies fly by, was such a relaxing way to start the day. Then off to our daily activities like zip lining at Osa Mountain. Water repelling down the waterfall in our own "backyard". Four-wheeling through the jungle and exploring the land. Fishing at the local Tilapia Fish Farm and then enjoying some traditional re-fried bean dip with fried plantain chips. Spending the day at the exquisite local beaches like, Tortuga, Ventanas and Playa Ballena, and shopping at the local markets! The calamari at Leonor Beach Club was to die for! Then returning back to the Casa for an evening swim in the gorgeous infinity pool over-looking a speculator sun-set view of the ocean, was one of the most romantic things we've ever experienced.

Len and Dorothy have truly out-done themselves with this very clean and well-maintained private Villa. We can't wait to come back for another visit and actually plan on making this an annual vacation. I tell ya, you cannot experience such a vacation by staying at a public resort with all the tourists. You see so much more of the culture and nature in the jungle by staying at a private Villa. A friendly pizote came daily to take bananas or bread from our hands.

The gated community it is located in provides a sense of security. Friendly neighbours like Tony and Linda Hamilton are there for answers to any questions you might have, and Tony being a Canadian doctor gives a feeling of security even if not required.

Paradise in the Jungle

  • 5 of 5
This was my first trip to Costa Rica. I spent a week, which wasn't long enough, with my girlfriend at Casa de Orquidea. We were delighted upon our arrival at the lushness of the 10 acre property and the unbeatable view. The rancho was the perfect spot to enjoy a Costa Rican coffee while listening to, and attempting to spot, the howler monkeys swinging through the treetops of the ravine bordering the property, while in the morning stillness you could hear a waterfall below. Out across the valley mists rose off the rivers and before long toucans and aricaris were calling and flying overhead.

The Casa is perfectly situated between two rivers/ravines with a mountain backdrop. This affords great privacy surrounded by jungle. The view across the valley to the ocean and sunsets is amazing.

We visited several local beaches exploring caves at Ventanas and watching a flock of macaws while shelling for sand dollars at Tortuga Beach. Fishing out of Sierpe was incredible -- netting us 11 Spanish mackerel, snappers and roosterfish. As our Captain cleaned the fish we watched a crocodile catching the innards thrown out into the river. AAs much fun as this was, I didn't even have to leave the Casa to enjoy netting fresh water shrimp in the river running through the property and accesseed by 190 concrete steps down through the jungle.

Tony and Linda Hamilton, the property managers, were very knowledgeable about local flora, fauna and customs. Tony guided us on a river trek and rapelling a 100' waterfall just a five minute walk from the Casa.

One visit to Casa de Orquidea won't be enough. I can't wait to go back.

Villa de Orquidae:Perfect vacation venue for rest and relaxation or extreme adventure. You choose!

  • 5 of 5
Nestled high in the mountains of Coronado, rests an incredible 5-star villa. With panoramic views of the Pacific, surrounded by lush, tropical rainforest... this property is nothing short of spectacular! From early morning wake-up calls of Howler monkeys to the tell-tale sounds of nearby Toucans, each moment is filled with National Geographic quality experiences. The collection of animal identification books makes it exciting to identify the many birds, insects and animals found right on site.
Beautifully manicured and maintained, it is almost inconceivable that this property, with modern conveniences, is a 15 minute drive high in the mountains requiring 4-wheel drive! More than once, we marveled at the planning and engineering that went into developing such an outstanding home.
While the villa does have A/C, we never found it necessary to turn it on, as the ceiling fans do an incredible job of circulating cool mountain air.
The infinity pool is the focal point of the property. Views of the Pacific sunsets are enhanced by elegant reflections, encircled by butterfly gardens and beautifully designed landscaping.
As an added bonus, we had the memorable opportunity of exploring with Antonio, an incredibly knowledgable and welcoming neighbor. From rainforest hikes to waterfall rappelling, Tony was an inexhaustible resource of information and guidance, not to mention humor and local folklore.
Emails exchanged with the owner, including directions and suggestions prior to our arrival, were spot-on and contained valuable ideas for site seeing, shopping, dining and general safety tips regarding rip-tides and safe swimming locations.
Another local friend, Denise, made arrangements and reservations for outstanding dining and adventurous outings. This allowed for seamless travel, with no concern for scams or miscommunications.
With absolutely no reservations whatsoever, I highly recommend this property and the potential it provides for a most memorable stay. Whether it is rest and relaxation by the pool, or extreme adventure that you desire, Villa de Orquidae provides a picturesque, safe venue for a perfect vacation.

Owner's Response: Thanks so much, Sarah, for your wonderful review of Casa de Orquidea. We're glad you enjoyed the casa, view and wildlife, as well as the trails, river trekking and rappelling in the development. An ocelot was recently sighted on the road up the mountain -- exciting!

The neighbours who were in residence in Cascada Sandalo during your visit sure enjoyed you and your family. Hope the bananas from our tree lasted during your stay -- maybe if you come again the pineapples will be ready too. You probably had your fill of mangoes! Thanks for the photos.
