Le Faure

  • 5 of 5

This was a very special place and made so by superb facilities - all immaculately prepared and to a high standard. I would recommend a visit here if you enjoy wonderful views, tranquility and fabulous weather ( for us at least). All parties involved enjoyed it tremendously.

for what we wanted, which was a relaxing holiday for 3 generations of family including young children, with plenty for everyone to do, without having to travel far away, this was perfect. Great pool!

Le Faure, Special Villas, great place

  • 5 of 5

A wonderful place. The house is lovely, full of country charm. There was plenty of room for the 12 adults in our group. All bedrooms were clean and comfortable (bedroom 1 is superb!). All the bathrooms were also clean and finished to a good standard. The kitchen is equipped with large fridges that comfortably met our needs and there was plenty of surface space for preparation and serving. The dining room provided a good space for holding meetings, as well as for dining.

The outside areas are great too; we used the barbecue and ate on the outdoor dining set frequently (morning and evening). We loved the swimming pool and used it every day. The surrounding grounds are a real bonus (we spent hours identifying plants in the meadows and looking at life in the lake).

There are many sites of interest (and vineyards) within a short drive, so the location is good for sightseeing. The owners are really friendly and helpful and were readily contactable if we had questions.

In short, a fantastic place. We have already booked again for next year.

Golden days

  • 4 of 5

We stayed in the Manoir for a family gathering for one week, our age group was from 3 years to 75 years with six children under seven and one teenager---sixteen of us in all.

The Manoir forms part of a "domaine" built around a now grass courtyard and was adequately described for a building circa 300 years old and was typical of both the era and the area. It had been reasonably well modernised with bathrooms to all bedrooms and a fine and well equipped family kitchen. the building was clean and comfortably furnished with plenty of space to loose oneself for quiet time if required. The secluded swimming pool is an excellent facility and of a decent size and was cleaned daily by the owner who was on site for the whole of our stay; he is friendly and helpful and very knowledgeable about the local area.

A golf course and football pitch are described as facilities in the details--both are a misnomer--there is a space where a football may be kicked about and one day a pitch and putt course might rise from the rough field in the valley below the Manoir, the "bouleadrome" and tennis court are both extant.

The possibility of hiring an onsite chef is mentioned, we used this facility once and were not impressed finding it expensive and the food unexceptional, we would however recommend the Gensacki, a newly opened bar and restaurant in Gensac where the food and service were excellent.

Would we recommend the Manoir? The answer is yes, we felt that we had value for money and an excellent holiday in an interesting part of rural France. The Manoir is ideal for large family gatherings of all ages and in our view the owner has fulfilled his wish to provide this experience.

Owner's Response: Very fair and helpful. The development of the "golf course" has been set back this year, the imported triple gang-mower from England has proved an error, impossible to maintain in France. A French alternative has been acquired. However, all 9 holes are now in place, and it will be recognisable and playable in 2014 - "Pitch & put" is probably a better name, though the holes range from 50m to 150m. The football field is a field with goalposts, to hoof a ball around. Regarding chef, I am a little surprised as Philippe has had typically exceptional reports this summer. I have checked and the clients chose "Coq au vin" as a main course, which is a simple dish and not a gastronomic one. For 2014 I am bringing in another professional chef and will tier the menus price-wise to reflect the gastronomic complexity. I note that the client refers to the kitchen as "fine and fully equipped", whereas the previous clients found it "inadequate for our numbers" - we are adding an additional large fridge and a second dishwasher to respond to the latter. I am really pleased with the way the Owners Direct review system is working, all my houses (FR6029, 6047, 6052, 6123 & 6134 (5, 6, 8, 8, 8 en-suite) bedrooms now have Summer 2013 reviews and are averaging 4.5*, with client comments showing how to move that upwards.

Family holiday

  • 4 of 5

We stayed at Le Faure for 2 weeks in the summer. The house is superbly situated with a fantastic private pool area, which is a sun trap and was hugely popular, especially with the children. The garden area is also very private, overlooking a quiet valley with a pond which was ideal for our dogs! The house is large and comfortable, if in need of some tlc but, to be honest, with a group of children under 10, we were happy to be able to relax and not worry too much. We had some issues with the kitchen facilities as they were inadequate for our numbers, but our comments were all taken on board by the very pleasant owner who was on hand for most of our stay.

Owner's Response: A most helpful commentary, the content of which I discussed with the clients at the end of their stay. Le Faure was the first of our four eight-bedroom houses and has lacked the second dish-washer and the second fridge that were programmed into the later restorations as desirable. This winter we will be upgrading and modifying the Le Faure kitchen with these items. Only clients can put pressure on our large houses at full capacity so their feed-back is highly valued.
