The cozy 1 bedroom apartment (ohana), situated below a family home, is in a garden setting with two separate entrances. The kitchen, located in a corner of the living room has a full refrigerator, range/oven, and microwave. A table and chairs are on the lanai and there is a fold out dining table for inside dining. The screened doors and windows offer gentle breezes and allow the bird songs to wake you each morning. Kealakekua Bay is a 2 minute walk away and Manini Beach is a five minute walk and a wonderful place to spend an hour or a day in the beautiful small park with a sandy cove and friendly people, or to snorkel among the many tropical fish that abound in this underwater preserve. Sunsets at Manini Point are spectacular, and the benches provide a nice place to sit and enjoy the view. Spinner dolphins leap from the bay most mornings and Humpback Whales are commonly seen in the bay or out breaching out at sea during February through April. They give birth to their calves is the bay and you can hear the slap of their tails and their vocalizations during the night. This area is a quiet village called Napoopoo and there are no stoplights, stores, or crowds. All shopping and dining are located up the hill 4 miles in Kealakekua, Capt. Cook, or the other local villages of Kealakekua or Kainaliu town.
This home has been in the family since 1979. The Ohana was built for our Uncle has been used by family and friends ever since. I live in rural Northern California on our beef ranch. My son and his family also live on the ranch. I am a retired Hospice Nurse and now that I have time, I split my time between Hawaii and home. And enjoy spending 3-4 months a year in the Ohana alone or with friends. I would like others to share this experience.

This ohana is so very close to Kealakekua Bay that we spend most days while there snorkeling or swimming. The water is warm as are the local people which make special days and a unique true Hawaiian experience. You will love the old time feel of the Bay and quiet days away from the city. Exploring the small towns at the top of the hill give you a look at old Hawaii.
This Ohana is in a perfect location. The comfortable personal touches inside this little home make it easy to relax. The proximity of the Bay make this Ohana special. There is also a cot that is available for a child or extra visitor.
I had a wonderful last few days. The dolphins finally appeared and I swam with them 3 times. It was a lifetime highlight. Thank you so much. It was fabulous to stay in your Ohana.
The bay is a site of an Ancient Hawaiian Temple or Heiau and overlooks Captain Cook Monument through the ruins of an ancient Hawaiian Village. Napoopoo is the perfect spot of an early morning stroll. Snorkel, Swim and Picnic at Manini Beach, Stroll to lovely and secluded Ke'ee Beach. Jog or walk South 4 miles on a level road or drive down this road to visit Pu'uhonau O Honaunau, a fully restored ancient site of refuge. Snorkel at Two Steps near Honaunau, a popular snorkel and dive spot. For a visit near the volcano, South Point and Black Sand Beach.
