Need a bigger place?: See 'A Big Annunciation', VRBO listing number 555993.

(Please also see my waterfront home in Fairhope, AL. It is VRBO listing number 170332. A good place for folks from New Orleans to go be on the water.)

This wonderful, cozy apartment with your own private entrance and shared front porch in an 1889 Eastlake Victorian House is your gateway to the heart of one of the most beautiful and fascinating cities in the world.

In the Lower Garden District historical section of New Orleans, this house is just two blocks from satisfying your craving for antiques of the finest kind, the best roasted coffee, food at some of the most amazing restaurants, and booze at an incredibly eclectic collection of bars on Magazine Street.

It is just three blocks from the Convention Center (if you, unfortunately, have to work), and Mardi Gras World, where you can see how that party started, and where many of the parades start during Mardi Gras itself. As a matter of fact, between Mardi Gras World and St. Charles Street, 30... Yes... THIRTY parades go within six blocks of this house (but not right in front of the house). That's good, see? You won't find anybody sleeping it off on your porch in the morning.

Speaking of St. Charles Street, a six-block walk, past some of the most beautiful and elegant houses, between Magazine and St. Charles, gets you to the streetcar. The closest stop is St. Charles at Felicity. $1.25 (exact change please) gets you a ride on the best way to travel in the U.S.A.!

You say you want to party... Hmm... No problem, but remember that this is a residential neighborhood, and I like my neighbors, so the real partying will be done out in the city. If Magazine Street and its pleasures are too sedate for you, head down Annunciation Street toward the Warehouse District, CBD, and the French Quarter. a 10-minute walk gets you to The Rusty Nail, Bellocq, Ugly Dog Saloon, Dino's, The Circle Bar, Republic New Orleans, and on and on...

Feeling more thoughtful... The wonderful National WWII Museum, one of the most popular attractions in New Orleans, is a ten-minute walk away as well, and is great for kids, too. The Ogden Museum of Southern Art, and the Confederate Memorial Hall Museum are right next door. By the way, if all the walking starts to bother you, and you have taken full advantage of the streetcar, a phone call will get a cab to the house in 5 minutes.

Food... Well, what can I say? Cochon, Annunciation, Eleven 79, Mayas Nuevo Latino, HiVolt, and Half Moon are some of our favorite places within short walking distance. there is no limit to where you can eat, and we will be happy to give you a list, suggestions, and so forth.

To sum up, in terms of location, you have it all right here at your fingertips! Enjoy!

After traveling a great deal, this native of Mobile (whose mother was a true Beatnik who lived on Royal Street in the Quarter in the early sixties), and his wife, a true Frenchie, bought this house as a way to recapture and exercise their love for the Deep South, France, and urban living, all in one fell swoop.

Sabin Bokus purchased this house in 2013

This property represents the charm, architecture, history, romance, color, and vibrant nature of New Orleans, and is so well-located, that it allows one to have the best of all worlds: easy access to work and business, tons of urban fun, and quiet residential repose at the end of the day.

The pocket doors, original floors and molding, expansive porch, and exterior Eastlake Victorian woodwork all allow you to feel like you have been a part of the city for generations, even if you are new to town.

THE PERFECT PLACE TO FEEL AT HOME IN NEW ORLEANS

  • 5 of 5
We were pleased to find the home just as it was pictured - beautiful New Orleans architecture and appointed just right for travelers. We were a group of 3 women, and we felt completely safe in the area, even when arriving back very late at night.

Everything you need to have a leisurely meal is there - we ate breakfast there every morning. We appreciated having several methods for coffee making as we are all coffee snobs. But it also was nice to have two coffee shops very close by.

The sleeping arrangement was great. There are pocket doors which separate the front room from the bedroom, which helped us because we had a snorer with us! The bedding was comfortable.

It was great to have wi-fi - a very nice touch.

We were there for Essence Festival, and because of the crowds, we had to walk back from the Dome one night. We felt quite safe in our group, particularly since there were other visitors around as well. Easy streetcar access (a short 6 block walk) and easy car access to anywhere in NOLA. We spent a lot of time on Magazine for shopping and eating because those shops were so close.

I would recommend this property to singles, couples, or families. Particularly when you need a break from the super fun you can't help but have in NOLA, this place is a short trip away for the rest you'll need!

I think it's also important for you to know how great the owner is. He provides a property guide that we referred to several times during our stay. It was extremely helpful to answer those little questions that come up when you're in a new surrounding.

I also talked with him before the trip which made me very comfortable with the choice. There are a few bad apples in the VRBO world, but this property owner is not one of them. He is courteous and very thoughtful of the info you'll need to have an enjoyable trip.

I plan to make this my go-to spot when I'm visiting NOLA!

Owner's Response: What a lovely review! I don't think we will ever get a better one. Thank you so much! We need more guests like you; and that is the truth!

I am so glad that you enjoyed it, and that you plan on coming back.

Many, many thanks again!

GREAT PLACE!!

  • 4 of 5
My fiancé and I had a great stay here! We were in town to apartment hunt. Unfortunately it rained the whole time and we didn't find a place (yet), but this was a nice cozy home to come back to at the end of each day. It was well appointed and thoughtfully laid out. The pocket doors gave the bedroom a little privacy, which was nice. I even broke a dish, but when I let the owner know he was very kind about the whole thing!
Overall, I'd definitely stay there on future trips and if you'll be in the area you should definitely check it out!

Owner's Response: I am so glad you liked it, and that we didn't make the dish a problem or anything. I don't like to pick on the little stuff.

I sure wish you could have found it in your heart to give us five stars, however. I try to do everything I can for folks, and will if asked. Maybe next time. Hope to have you again.

GREAT PLACE AND LOCATION

  • 5 of 5
We loved this place. The location is walkable to so many places in the city. We had an event at the convention center and walked there during the day which took about 10 minutes. Took a cab back at night and less than $10. The owners are very nice and have great information about the city itself. The house is comfortable and it is most enjoyable to sit on the front porch, relax and every one that walks by always says hello. True New Orleans style!

PERFECT HIDDEN GEM AND AMAZING SERVICE

  • 5 of 5
This perfect little shot gun house is located near everything you can possibly imagine! You are 2 blocks from Magazine Street, 3 minutes from Fulton street plaza and just a few blocks away from catching the St. Charles Trolley that takes you anywhere you really need to go.

We went on a last minute trip to get away from the hustle and bustle and we definitely landed on one perfect little gem. It was very clean and well maintained. But nothing makes a stay more comfortable than being able to effectively communicate any concern or question to the owner. Sabin was amazing!!!!!!!! He provided us with any detail that would make our trip that much more comfortable. He was flexible and was willing to assist in anything he could. The transaction went smoothly with no hassle.

This is definitely a place I would recommend to any one visiting New Orleans!!!!

This is an amazing vacation rental property! We were in New Orleans for a wedding and stayed for 2 nights. The rental is absolutely perfect! The house is beautiful. It is in a great location and close to all of the local attractions. The owners were a pleasure to work with! They answered all of our questions, provided us with everything we needed and were very easy to get in touch with while we were there! The house has everything you would need! They really thought of it all! It was very clean and welcoming! It was even bigger than we expected! We were pleasently surprised at what a wonderful experience we had. I know this trip wouldn't have been the same had we not rented this property for our stay! I HIGHLY recommend this property for anyone traveling to the New Orleans area! You won't regret it-it's quaint, well decorated, clean and makes you feel right at home : )

Owner's Response: My wife came in the room, and asked me what the big grin on my face was for. I read her your review. She had the same smile.

Thank you so much!

A GREAT PLACE TO EXPLORE NEW ORLEANS!

  • 5 of 5
We rented this property for three adults, one married couple plus a friend from overseas, for three nights in early December. (Unfortunately, my wife had to cancel her visit at the last minute due to an ice storm that left her stranded at home.) The house is beautiful, nicely decorated, well taken care of, and even bigger than it looks in the pictures. It has all the amenities one would ever need including lots of towels and a fully equipped kitchen. I slept on the queen size bed and my friend slept on the fold out bed and both were very comfortable. We had a car and drove downtown, so I did not get a sense of how public transportation works. Although we did not meet in person, Sabin is an amazing host with excellent customer service skills and attention to detail. He kept open lines of communication. Just to illustrate, we arrived at midnight in a raging storm and he was on the telephone with us for the last 10 miles giving us directions and instructions. He also answered all our questions and shared with us the names of some of his favorite restaurants and places where we could listen to live music. His love and enthusiasm for the city shows and he wanted to share that with us. The logistics were simple and we had no problem getting the key. We loved the time that we spent there. I highly recommend this property for a visit to New Orleans and want to go back in the future, so my wife can finally see the city.

Owner's Response: Indeed, I do hope that your wife can make it sometime. If I could control the weather, I would, and she would not have missed our wonderful city.

Thank you so much for the review. I hope the rest of your adventure across the States went well, and I hope that you make it back. It is always nice to have lovely guests.
