New Orleans House Rental Photos and Description

House, 2 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 1 Bath, (Sleeps 1-6)

Welcome to New-Orleans!

Bienvenue à La Nouvelle-Orléans pour les francophones!

We survived Katrina, no floods, minor damage ( the cottage was built on high grounds, facing the Mississippi river, where Native Indians, early French settlers and their West-African slaves used to live in the 1720's).

We are blessed and thankful. Our thoughts still go the victims of this disaster.

Come and visit our great city, we are rebuilding it. We simply have to.

Having said that, Louisiana and New-Orleans are doing great thanks to our people, our determination and unique culture. Our legendary 'Joie de Vivre' can't be lost!

Thank you very much to check availability before contacting us.

(only by email please. A site manager is here, living at the back of the property/ next door/ always ready to help you ... ).

Please, contact us for rates & questions, we offer the best deal you can ever find for such a central and safe location!

The longer you stay in N.O, the more unfit you become to live anywhere else...

Galleried Historic Creole cottage (Caribbean/Haitian style) in its tropical setting (petit jardin Gumbo Kreol traditionnel), built 1807, in a time of survival, by a wealthy free woman of colour, Madame Laporte. It is the oldest house in the legendary 'Faubourg Marigny ', with original cypress woodfloor, mantels.

2 blocks from the French Quarter and Bourbon street, also 2 blocks from Frenchmen street where locals go to listen to the best traditionnal & contemporary, progressive jazz in town (14 music clubs), go to great and very affordable restaurants (créole, italian, french, japanese, lebanese... ect... ), bookstores, bistrots de café noir, and many more attractions.

Safe and very family oriented neighborhood.

Private frontyard and front-porch.

Fully furnished with 1800's antiques from Louisiana, Paris, Versailles & Sénégal. Also, Art-Déco unique pieces found here & there.

Your perfect bohemian- shabby chic ' Nouveau-Soul/ Afro-Créole style' place to stay: The Essence of New-Orleans!

Two separate bedrooms/ an elegant double parlor, living-room with a comfortable sofa bed for 2 persons/ updated kitchen/ and bathroom with jacuzzi.

The 'best hidden secret' in New-Orleans!

Check-in time starts at 3:00 pm till 1:00 am / Check-out time is before 10:00 am. ( though we can adjust if possible).

Also check our 'MONDECREOLE Secret Courtyards/ Private homes & CEMETERY walking tour'/ THE INSIDER'S FRENCH QUARTER. (80% of the 2h30mn tour takes place behind locked doors and explore the lives, in New-Orleans, of 5 generations of an old creole family who once owned LAURA PLANTATION: Laura Locoul (1861-1963), a Creole lady and plantation mistress from Louisiana, wrote a journal of her family's life in the old French Quarter:

1) Walk through closed gates and, surrounded by the stillness of secluded, tropical courtyards, step into the mysterious and forgotten story of Laura's family. Amid patios of profuse and entangled beauty, meet the spectors of those long dead: the European and the African branches of this Louisiana DYNASTY.

From grand & distinctive townhouses to original slave quarters, hear about black aristocrats, free people of colour, slaves, changing society after the Civil War and the birth of JAZZ while a culture tragically dissolves. Discover where, how they lived and their intimate secrets shared only with VOODOO queens of long ago...

2) Hear also about Historic Haunts & places, myths & legends:

Infamous figures such as Marie Laveau and Jean Lafitte make appearances, as do Napoleon House and a possible yellow fever morgue. The tour offers historical context for the legends surrounding these people and places, suggesting where the myths could have originated without necessarily debunking them.

The city is full of wonderful mysteries, which add to the flavor of our history. We intend to reveal different layers of the stories so that people may understand how and why each legend came to be.'

Visitors will learn about the ghastly details of each haunted location and then learn about the historical time period in which they occurred. The tour begins with the settling of New Orleans, when young French and Senegalese women were sent to the colony as brides for male settlers. They were rumored to have brought vampires along with them. The tour also explains the atmosphere of death and decay that pervaded the city during the massive outbreaks of yellow fever in the mid-1800s.

Frommer's says it is the most fascinating, unexpected, exclusive tour in town, much more historically accurate and entertaining than all the regular touristy haunted history tours.

Guests will get a $5 discount ( $20 instead of $25/pers) for our French Quarter MONDE CREOLE Secret Courtyards & Cemetery walking tour!

I am Paul and we thank you very much for visiting our homepage.

I grew up between the USA and France. What a better place to be than Louisiana?

The Owner purchased this house in 1999

New-Orleans is wonderful and a unique place for its history.

The French Quarter & Bourbon Street can be a lot of fun, no one there thinks moderation is a virtue! But would you really like to stay there?

We much prefer the authentic 'Faubourg Marigny', this is the real New-Orleans. We learn from the past but do not live in the past, though we are dedicated preservasionists.

We also support our great local activists who live in our neighborhood.

They are foremost concerned about the rebuilding of our city, wetland issues, global warming, sustainnable development and how to create a clean, green & better city for next generations.

The house stands in the middle of a friendly, progressive, artsy, quiet, family oriented and safe neighborhood. It is also close to the best attractions in town. Walking distance for groceries as well.

Thanks to the lush front yard, its tropical plants, the cottage is also a nice secluded retreat providing complete privacy and a comforting sense of peace with its own 'mystique'.

I have to start by saying that I was debating on reviewing this place. It was such a treasure, I don't want a bunch of people knowing how amazing it is. Then it would be too booked to ever return!

The Caprice Cottage is an amazing place. We were greeted by Bill, the neighbor, who had the place lit up and jazz music playing on the radio. What a welcome! He had information on the house and area-perfect for the history lover in me. The decor was absolutely gorgeous, with antiques and old New Orleans everywhere you looked. The fireplaces, the porch, the courtyard...just perfect. NOLA had a bad winter, so the banana trees didnt make it, but we could smell the key lime buds growing on the tree next to the porch.

I think that little porch was our favorite after a long day, or in the morning with a cup of coffee. You were hidden away from the street, but could still hear some faint action in the distance that made it 100% New Orleans: happy people walking a block over or down your street, the clip clop of horses pulling a wagon on Pauger, the brass jazz band that played on a corner down on Frenchman Street, the sound of the riverboat horn, the train... Yet when you walked in the cottage, it was shut out from the world.

The beds were comfortable, the house was clean, and it was perfectly situated-far enough to get out of the party atmosphere, but so close to everything. It was walking distance to Frenchman Street, Bourbon Street, the French Market, and pretty much everything in the French Quarter. We walked everywhere---the best way to see everything. And coming home was nice and relaxing, to soak in the spa tub.

All of the conveniences of home! We brought laundry detergent and there was already a supply! There were also stockpiles of paper towel, toilet paper, clean towels, etc. The only negatives (and I wouldnt even call them negatives-just different and something to get used to) was no shower and only a small TV in the dining area. I got used to taking a bath every day and grew to love it; and if you are in New Orleans to watch TV, then I am very sorry for you.

We already miss this place! We miss the breakfast at Ruby Slippers on the next block. We miss walking down at night to hear some jazz at the Spotted Cat (our favorite on Frenchman Street). We just plain miss it! We would totally book the Caprice Cottage again. In a heartbeat. Hopefully, it will be available. What a gem!

Perfect accommodations for our New Orleans adventure

Two friends and I surprised my husband with a trip to New Orleans for his birthday. It was a great getaway, and the city certainly did not disappoint! What made our trip especially wonderful was being able to stay in this beautiful home. It is a gem! I've already been recommending it to family and friends, and now they can't wait to stay there as well. It felt like we were staying in a museum as there was something interesting to look at everywhere we turned. The home was well-appointed, and we loved how quiet the street was while still being within walking distance of all the wonders Bourbon Street, Jackson Square, and the French Market hold. We already can't wait to return to New Orleans to enjoy more of the rich culture, delicious food, incredible live music, and stunning architecture. We would definitely stay in the house again and can't recommend it enough!

Best place to Stay in New Orleans!

This was my family's first trip to New Orleans and we had a wonderful time. The house is cute and quaint, the Owner very knowledgable and friendly, and the neighborhood is quiet and close to everything.

The house has two fairly big bedrooms, nice seating areas, and a great kitchen. We were able to cook breakfast every morning before heading out for the day. The house is two blocks from the french quarter. We walked everywhere. The only time we took a cab was to go to Harrah's and we were just too pooped to walk there. We were even able to wash clothes and not bring home anything dirty. All the supplies were there for us.

We had our five year old with us and we were able to take him trick or treating on Halloween. All the neighbors were really friendly and made it a special night for him.

The Owner answered all of our questions right away before the trip and was very helpful while we were there. I plan to visit next summer with my sisters and will definitely be staying here again.

Romantic, Quiet, Perfect

Visited New Orleans for the first time, a romantic get away with my husband. We do not care for the drunken, loud and smelly experience that Bourbon Street offers. Instead, we prefer the less crowded, more mellow Frenchman street, with it's jazz forums and laid back crowd. Within walking distance (even for lazy ones such as us) but far enough way to be very quiet, this charming property is perfect. If you want to go to Bourbon Street, this is certainly close enough to walk as well. We spent the days walking and exploring, coming home exhausted and soaking in the large two person tub before falling into a comfortable bed. The airconditioning was quite a treat after walking around in the heat of the summer. I have to say that I slept more on this vacation than any other in my life (in a good way!) and I know that it is because the house is so peaceful and relaxing. Strongly encourage you to take the tour through the owner's tour company - (www.mondecreole.com) We did several tours and this one was head and shoulders above any other tour . We are very light packers and the washer/dryer really came in handy, as did the kitchen as we love to have handy snacks around and to keep our beer cold! We didn't cook because we loved all the local food, but the kitchen certainly is big enough to cook meals if you were inclined to do so. Most of all, the house is just gorgeous, with its high ceilings and time appropriate furniture. We LOVED our stay, can't wait to go back - Also Paul was incredibly patient with my many and surely annoying emails beforehand, also a gentleman when we arrived and now considered a friend. Thanks Paul! we miss your magical place!!

Just Perfect!

A special thank you for hosting us in your New Orleans home during our recent visit. We cannot say enough about this perfect Creole cottage, which is two short blocks from the French Quarter and Frenchmen Street with 14 music clubs, featuring traditional jazz.
Around the corner, The Spotted Cat Music Club was a gem and offered Swing dance lessons. In the evening we enjoyed the traditional jazz music at the Maison Bourbon.
We enjoyed our morning coffee and our late night nightcaps on the very private courtyard, reminiscent of a Haitian/Creole cottage. Inside was museum perfect with interesting décor and pieces of art.
But what we enjoyed the most was the instant calm we felt when we walked through the front door – it felt like home.
