Bru na Mara is a beautiful complex just outside Carna that combines traditional design with modern comfort. The site overlooks a small harbour, and has spectacular views of the sea, the historic Mason and St MacDara's islands, and the beautiful surrounding countryside. Situated in the south west corner of Connemara, the complex is an ideal location for touring and exploring Connemara and South Mayo. Carna, which is situated in the Gaeltacht (Irish speaking region) is an important centre for Traditional singing, music, and dancing, with weekly sessions in neighbouring Kilkieran. There are a host of activities within easy reach, including a number of spectacular, unspoiled white sand beaches at Moyrus, (1.5 km) Mynish (7 km) and Callowfinish (8 km). The area is also ideal for walking or cycling, with little traffic, stunning views, and the cleanest air in Europe.

Bru Na Mara is 5 km South West of Carna village beside Mace Pier. Go through the village of Carna, take the first left turn after approximately 2.5 km west of Carna. At the next Y junction keep right and turn right at the next junction after approximately 300 metres. Continue down this road until you reach the house at Mace Pier. Bru na Mara provides traditional yet ultra modern self-catering accommodation 'at the quiet end of Europe'. Ideal for cycling, hill-walking, rock-climbing, treeking, horse-riding, golf, pitch and putt, swimming, surfing, scuba-diving, canoeing, fishing, boating, sailing and sailing festivals. A haven for botanists, bird-watchers, artists and writers. Renowned for Irish language, traditional singing, music, dance, pre-historic and mediaeval remains. Good food and drink available locally in a relaxed athmosphere. The area is famous for its lamb and seafood. Within driving distance of Roundstone, Clifden, Letterfrack,. there were four of us in our party and we all were able to enjoy this beautiful and peaceful location. we sat and listened to the sound of the water lapping the rocks or within a 10 to 20 minute drive there was a bar/ hotel restuarant for some chat!
i would throughly recommend this comfortable cottage one of our party has mobility disabilities so being all on one level was great, the owner is very helpful and offers a wealth of knowledge of the connermara area, we will be back!
