ABSOLUTE OCEANFRONT, ABSOLUTE LUXURY, ABSOLUTELY AMAZING! CHECK OUT THE VIDEO!

Hakalau House Rental Photos and Description

4 Bedrooms, 3.5 Bathrooms, Sleeps up to 8

The only way to stay closer to the ocean would to be in a boat. Sit back and watch the cruise ships slowly pass by knowing that the passengers aboard are truly envying your luxurious accommodations. This elegant and spacious home offers a nearly 180 degree of the mighty Pacific ocean where you can relax and watch whales as they suddenly breach the blue water, spinner dolphins playfully chase a passing fishing vessel and the rising sun at it welcomes you to an amazing array of morning colors.

Walk through the front door into a vaulted great room with expansive windows looking out to the ocean and all that it has to offer. Hardwood floors, granite kitchen counters, two separate bedroom/bath suites each with its own lanai from which to enjoy the cool breezes from the ocean. The spacious oceanfront lanai of the house also has an outdoor sink/bar for outdoor entertaining. The home is furnished with high quality furniture that has been handcrafted using several different types of Hawaiian hardwood, lots of beautiful artwork and comfortable furniture. The only thing you will hate about this house is leaving!

The main house features two spacious bedrooms, the Hamakua and the Hilo, each boasting its own private bath. This allows for comfortable accommodations for four persons. The bathroom of the Hamakua room features an extra large, luxurious Jacuzzi tub with full glass windows offering a wide open ocean view. In addition, a separate door off of the Hamakua bath leads you onto a nice wooden lanai and a fabulous, outdoor shower. This shower is covered by wood and vines on three sides yet open on the ocean side. Don't worry about privacy as their isn't another house on either side of the property.

The separate 2 bedroom/1 bath guest house, which sits above the garage, is also well furnished and has its own private and spacious deck. While slightly more simple than the main house, the guest house still offers exceptional comfort, a full kitchen, washer/dryer and of course, breathtaking views. Double sliding glass doors of the guest house lead out to a very spacious upper lanai with breathtaking, picturesque views.

For your convenience, this incredible lodge can be rented in two manners. One option is to rent the main house and its 2 bedroom with two and one half baths. This provides a spacious and luxurious rental for up to 4 persons. Have more family, friends or guests? The second option allows the booking of the entire lodge. In addition to the main house, the separate upstairs ohana (guest house) provides two spacious bedrooms, a large bath, a full kitchen, laundry facilities and an incredible deck with out of this world views.

Hilo is known for its warm aloha spirit, relaxed lifestyle, unique shops, art galleries and restaurants with local regional cuisine. Local attractions include Lyman Museum, East Hawaii Cultural Center, historic Palace Theatre, Pacific Tsunami Museum, Imiloa Astronomy Center, UH Hilo Performing Arts Center and Hawaii Tropical Botanical Gardens. Hilo Farmer's Market is a favorite for fresh, local produce. Merrie Monarch Festival, Hilo's premier hula competition and cultural event, is held annually. Hilo's black sand beaches and freshwater pools are some of the best for snorkeling, diving, surfing, paddle boarding, kayaking, swimming with turtles and tropical fish, or watching the whales off shore. Take a helicopter volcano tour or short scenic drive to active Kilauea volcano to view a lava flow, ride horses in Waipio Valley or tour the summit and view the night skies of Mauna Kea.

Weddings, graduations, receptions or large gatherings may be allowed with the owner's prior consent and only by arrangement with our event planning and management services. Contact us in advance to facilitate your special occasion set in the privacy of the beautiful oceanfront home and gardens.

We also own another property, Old Sugar Mill Plantation, which is only 4 miles away. It is a great, ocean view home and can accommodate up to 16 persons. Click on 'See our other listings' on this website or you can cut and paste the below into your browser.

Steve and I are truly blessed to be not only residents of the Big Island but to have the opportunity to manage such an incredible home for our dear friends. Helen and John, the owners, share our compassion in ensuring our guests feel the true spirit of Aloha while staying at the Pali Lani Seaside Lodge. So that our incoming guests know, in Hawai'i, we like to hug a lot! So if you reach out to shake a hand here, don't be surprised if they give you a hug in return. While you are here, you are family! It's the Hawaiian way of life.

We sat on the lanai, saw an amazing humpback whale explosively breach the blue water right before our eyes and we were hooked!

The home sits on the most private and tranquil property you will find. As you approach the home, beautiful, wrought gates slowly open inviting you to your own tropical paradise. Surrounded by vacant land on all sides, you will hear nothing but the sound of the ocean. In season, maybe even a few whales singing to each other.

Spectacular setting, beautiful home

It's difficult to overstate the beauty of this place. The entry to the property is a lush garden of tropical foliage and sweet smelling flowers. The house decor is crisp and clean with bamboo floors throughout, modern appliances in the kitchen, and thoughtful pieces of art work and large-scale furniture of tropical wood in the main living area. The back wall is mostly windows and lanais to frame what's really special about the house--the vast view of the Pacific Ocean. This house, from its high cliffside viewpoint, gives you the gift of the ocean in all its immensity and wonder. And when the whales are playing, it's an abundance of riches. (Make sure you walk on the amazing back lawn barefoot. It's like a giant green sponge that you sink into up to your ankles.) The neighborhood is charming, and there are several picturesque areas where you can walk or take a run without getting into a car. Best advice: Don't plan on making it a short stay here. You won't want to leave.

Owner's Response: Diana's comments reflect those of so many of our guests. The worst thing about Pali Lani is the dreaded day of departure. Many of those who stay a couple of days at Pali Lani and then venture to another destination on the Big Island frequently tell us that they wish their entire Hawaii trip would have been spent in the Pali Lani home.

Amazing Vacation Home in the big Island

What a place! Breathtaking views. We were blown away by just about everything about the house. The nice tropical front yard, the ocean slamming into the cliffs and the fact that it was really private. The place is well managed and we found a clean ready to use place. It was exactly as depicted by the photos. No complaints there ( or anywhere really!!!). The place is 15-20 minutes drive to Hilo and very close to many waterfalls and the amazing tropical botanical gardens. It was a sublime experience and we are sure to return again! We truly recommend this place to everyone!

The pictures don't do it justice. The grounds with fresh lemons and other native fruit, orchids in bloom unusual mature palms some species I did not recognize ...great walk with your coffee in the morning. Many mornings after a tour of the grounds we sat watching fishing boats whales and spinner dolphins. At night the wave sounds lull you to sleep with the cool ocean scented breeze. Words fail the experience of this home. My husband and I loved it. We hope to go again soon. db

Paradise found!

First, this place almost ruined my vacation. What I meen is I didn't want to leave. The house was perfectly placed for day trips anywhere on the island. I've done all the islands and love this one the most. I was traveling with a group of seven. 3 of which were chefs. The house was laid out perfectly for cooking and enjoying each other company. But when solitude was required we had plenty of space to be alone. The grounds offered beautiful fruit and flowers to enhance our meals and cocktails. Steve and Julie were available when needed but left us to enjoy if not. I've rented many times all over the world but this house was special. We would wake to whales playing off the point and the beauty of the ocean beyond. Steve and Julie can expect an offer to buy! Loved it. Mahalo

What a perfect location for a Hawaii vacation. The home is located in the quaint town of Hakalua; a short 15 minute drive north up the scenic highway from Hilo. This allows you to be close enough for the comforts of shopping and dining while providing incredible privacy and the true Hawaiian experience at the same time.

Fabulous short day trips make the location ideal for the traveler desiring to see everything the Big Island has to offer. Akaka Falls State Park is only a 10-minute drive from the home. The beauty of Nani Mau Gardens on the edge of Hilo is a short 20 minute drive. Picturesque Waipio Rim Valley is only a short 45 minute drive away up the scenic Hamakua Coast. Great hikes and sightseeing await you at Hawaii Volcanoes National Park which is also approximately 45 minutes away.

The home is a short 20 minute drive from the Hilo airport and approximately 1 1/2 hours from the Kona airport.
