The only way to stay closer to the ocean would to be in a boat. Sit back and watch the cruise ships slowly pass by knowing that the passengers aboard are truly envying your luxurious accommodations. This elegant and spacious home offers a nearly 180 degree of the mighty Pacific ocean where you can relax and watch whales as they suddenly breach the blue water, spinner dolphins playfully chase a passing fishing vessel and the rising sun at it welcomes you to an amazing array of morning colors.
Walk through the front door into a vaulted great room with expansive windows looking out to the ocean and all that it has to offer. Hardwood floors, granite kitchen counters, two separate bedroom/bath suites each with its own lanai from which to enjoy the sunrise, the starts and the cool breezes from the ocean. The spacious oceanfront lanai of the house also has an outdoor sink/bar for outdoor entertaining. The home is furnished with high quality furniture that has been handcrafted using several different types of Hawaiian hardwood, lots of beautiful artwork and comfortable furniture. The only thing you will hate about this house is leaving!
This spectacular home features two spacious bedrooms, the Hamakua and the Hilo, each boasting its own private bath. The bathroom of the Hamakua room features an extra large, luxurious Jacuzzi tub with full glass windows offering a wide open ocean view. In addition, a separate door off of the Hamakua bath leads you onto a nice wooden lanai and a fabulous, outdoor shower. This shower is covered by wood and vines on three sides yet open on the ocean side.
We hope that you have had the opportunity to view the great video of this property. Please note that the video depicts both the Pali Lani Seaside Lodge as well as the adjacent The Loft at Pali Lani Vacation Rental.
Need space for additional guests? On the same tropical, nearly 2 acre paradise we offer the quaint, second story, The Loft at Pali Lani vacation rental. This property can be viewed on VRBO listing number 640275 (www.vrbo.com/640275) and can also be seen on the video of this property. These two amazing properties can be reserved together at a discounted rate and will sleep a total of 10 guests together. If you only need the main Pali Lani house but wish to have total privacy during your stay, you can block the rentals of the neighboring Loft for an additional $60/night. This will ensure you have the entire Pali Lani estate to yourself.
While both rentals are located on the same property, there is ample space between the two so that privacy is not an issue. The two rentals share the same covered parking area but have separate entrances.
Hilo is known for its warm aloha spirit, relaxed lifestyle, unique shops, art galleries and restaurants with local regional cuisine. Local attractions include Lyman Museum, East Hawaii Cultural Center, historic Palace Theatre, Pacific Tsunami Museum, Imiloa Astronomy Center, UH Hilo Performing Arts Center and Hawaii Tropical Botanical Gardens. Hilo Farmer's Market is a favorite for fresh, local produce. Merrie Monarch Festival, Hilo's premier hula competition and cultural event, is held annually. Hilo's black sand beaches and freshwater pools are some of the best for snorkeling, diving, surfing, paddle boarding, kayaking, swimming with turtles and tropical fish, or watching the whales off shore. Take a helicopter volcano tour or short scenic drive to active Kilauea volcano to view a lava flow, ride horses in Waipio Valley or tour the summit and view the night skies of Mauna Kea.
We are near Highway 19, only 15 minutes to the town of Hilo, 20 minutes to the Hilo Airport and an approximate 2 hour drive to Kona. This is a great central location to tour and see the incredible experiences the Island of Hawaii has to offer.
We also own another property, Old Sugar Mill Plantation, which is only 4 miles away. It is a great, ocean view home and can accommodate up to 16 persons. Click on 'See our other listings' on this website or you can cut and paste the below into your browser.
Mahalo nui loa!
We are truly blessed to be not only residents of the Big Island but to have the opportunity to manage such an incredible home for our dear friends. Helen and John, the owners, share our compassion in ensuring our guests feel the true spirit of Aloha while staying at The Loft at Pali Lani or the Pali Lani Seaside Lodge. So that our incoming guests know, in Hawai'i, we like to hug a lot! So if you reach out to shake a hand here, don't be surprised if they give you a hug in return. While you are here, you are family! It's the Hawaiian way of life.
Steve and Julie Cox purchased this house in 2013
We sat on the lanai, saw an amazing humpback whale explosively breach the blue water right before our eyes and we were hooked!
The home sits on the most beautiful and tranquil property you will find. As you approach the home, beautiful, wrought gates slowly open inviting you to your own tropical paradise. Surrounded by vacant land on all sides, you will hear nothing but the sound of the ocean. In season, maybe even a few whales singing to each other.
A recent post form our Guest Book.....My family & I greatly enjoyed our recent visit to Pali Lani, a truly unique and special oceanfront home with an awesome flower garden. The property featured beautifully crafted hardwood furniture pieces, with taste and attention to detail. Bamboo floors all over.. Great master and guest bedrooms with private lanais.. A Chef's kitchen with anything you could possibly need for your culinary creations. A master bathroom with double shower and jacuzzi tub featuring unobstructed view towards the ocean- very romantic. Ah, the sunsets, the breeze.. The stars! A short drive to Hilo, convenient location- beautiful and private. Would love to visit again in the near future! Special thanks to Steve for being such a great host- aloha & mahalo!
The house was wonderful and had an amazing view. We saw dolphins and whales from the house each morning. It is truly a house designed for entertaining and vacationing. Steve was wonderful to work with. I highly recommend Pali Lani to everyone. It was a delight
Well maintained property. We had a wonderful stay and would love to spend more time again next year. Loves watching whales from the patio. The garden had plenty of oppurtunity for striking photographs. Most of all was very peaceful serene atmosphere.
The secluded house located on a cliff overlooking the Pacific Ocean offers a welcome respite. Upon entering the security gate, one is met by a virtual botanical garden. We strolled the garden snapping picture after picture of exotic plants in the well-maintained yard. The two bedroom house and the adjacent two bedroom apartment offer spectacular views of the ocean. We would have preferred to have had a sofa and tv in the great room. The house is about 15 miles from Hilo.
I contacted Steve at the last minute when we had to change our reservation from the Pahoa area due to volcano activity. He was so helpful in setting us up with this amazing property. Four of us each had a bedroom (we rented both the house and the apt), and we came together in the common room to hear the ocean roar, walk the grounds (which are like a botanical garden). Steve was so friendly and answered all my questions. He was always available. My friends and I had a great time here and recommend it. Mahalo, Steve!

We stayed 5 nights with our 3 teenaged sons at this beautiful home. We rented the main house and the guest house, so there was plenty of room for all of us to spread out. The gardens and ocean view are stunning. We enjoyed looking through the small telescope at schools of spinner dolphins that swam by in the mornings, as well as at the stars at night. The location is convenient for zip-lining near Akaka Falls and horseback riding in Waipio Valley. It's a bit less convenient for grocery shopping which requires a trip into Hilo. Most other island sites, like the volcanoes and beaches, are only about an hour away. On the whole, it is a great place to stay. The only thing lacking was a large frying pan for making breakfast for a family of 5. Of the three houses we stayed in on different islands, the management was most responsive at this one. Steve was quick to find answers to our questions about the island, and he also returned our deposit before our flight home landed.
We recently returned home from our stay at Pali Lani, and the house was a highlight of our vacation. We are a family of 4 with two teenage daughters. We only rented the main house. The house is just as described - fantastic views of the ocean, large tropical front yard for girls to explore and run off excess energy, and a great floor plan. Pali Lani served as our base of operation for a week and it was a great treat to come back to every day. We traveled the entire island over the course of the week and did not see another place we would have preferrred to stay. If you want a secluded oasis with space to breathe and relax, this is your house. Gorgeous sunrises, soothing sounds of the surf on the cliffs, and a beautiful location all set the tone for a very relaxing and regenerative vacation. You won't want to leave!
What a perfect location for a Hawaii vacation. The home is located in the quaint town of Hakalua; a short 15 minute drive north up the scenic highway from Hilo. This allows you to be close enough for the comforts of shopping and dining while providing incredible privacy and the true Hawaiian experience at the same time.
Fabulous short day trips make the location ideal for the traveler desiring to see everything the Big Island has to offer. Akaka Falls State Park is only a 10-minute drive from the home. The beauty of Nani Mau Gardens on the edge of Hilo is a short 20 minute drive. Picturesque Waipio Rim Valley is only a short 45 minute drive away up the scenic Hamakua Coast. Great hikes and sightseeing await you at Hawaii Volcanoes National Park which is also approximately 45 minutes away.
The home is a short 20 minute drive from the Hilo airport and approximately 1 1/2 hours from the Kona airport.
