Behind the simple facade of this historic and urban cottage style house, lies a whole new and cozy world of contemporary ambiance and decor. Based on its colorful decor, my Family and I named it 'THE HOUSE OF COLORS'
Our house was just rehabbed and remodeled during the second half of 2013. We tore walls, added new windows, wall texture, painting and floors to create open and friendly spaces with lots of light. Then we added brand new contemporary furniture full of colors.
The house is centrally located in the prestigious Historic District of 'Olmos Park Terrace' where new young and mature urban professionals are moving to. This is an amazing location as the house is just 10-15 minutes away from San Antonio's main tourist spots. 4-5 miles to Downtown, Riverwalk (Paseo del Rio) and Convention Center, 5 Minutes to San Antonio's Zoo and SA's top 2 shopping, dining and entertainment centers which are 'North Star Mall' and 'The Quarry'. 24 minutes to Lackland Air Force Base. 18 minutes to Six Flags Fiesta Texas and 23 minutes to Sea World.
Also our Historic District neighbors the small affluent/upscale City of 'Olmos Park' which is inside San Antonio. Within walking distance there is a great neighborhood cafe, and very nice restaurants (Mexican, Italian, French, Vietnamese).
After visiting all the tourist spots in SA, our house offers a cozy patio with brand new and contemporary furniture to enjoy a nice evening with family/friends or a nice BBQ
Very few vacation rental houses are so close to everything and at the same time offering a setting of luxury and contemporary decor with new furniture.

I am originally from Monterrey, Mexico. San Antonio has been my 2nd hometown for me and many of my family members. After working many years for consumer product corporations in Marketing Management positions, I lost my job back in 2009 due to the economy collapse. That is when I decided to move from the busy lifestyle in Los Angeles to San Antonio where most of my family members live. Having nurtured a passion for real estate during the last years of my corporate life, I decided to start a new career rehabbing and selling properties. Then I decided to rent one of my houses in VRBO/Homeaway and the rest is history. Today I own 2 rental houses in San Antonio and my family and I love sharing our houses with other people visiting San Antonio.
Ricardo Valdes (Se habla Espanol) purchased this house in 2013
Urban life is more fun and exciting than suburban life when going on vacation or living temporarily in a city. When you live or vacation close to downtown San Antonio, you are closer to the culture, energy and personality of a city. When a saw this house for the first time, I saw a very simple cottage house facade. But after seeing its amazing location in a safe Historic District less than 4 miles from downtown and all the nice restaurants, bars and shops located in less than 2 miles, my dream was to turn this house into a cozy paradise of contemporary ambiance and decor, full of light and color.
Amazing location close to everything. Safe Historic District with a mix of Hispanic traditional families and upcoming young and mature urban professionals (Single and Married)
Great contemporary decor and ambiance.
We've stayed in a LOT of VRBO homes, and this one is at the TOP of our favorites list. We love the way it's been renovated and decorated! We had a great 1st time vacation in Texas. We loved San Antonio! We walked in the morning to "Panchitos"-wonderful breakfast tacos and the best coffee. Visited "Olmos Perk" for cappuccinos and iced frappes-great place. "Guenther House" was superb :-). Also enjoyed "Rosario's" on St Mary's. So much to do in San Antonio. Lot's of walking and bike riding on the Riverwalk, and to the beautiful Missions. River Cruise was well worth the $8.25. Walking the area of the King William Historic District was amazing and interesting to see more homes in the process of renovation. Thank you, Ricardo, for a lovely, comfortable stay in this beauty, and for taking my allergies into consideration when getting the house ready for us. I really appreciated that! We wish we could have stayed longer and hope to return. We enjoyed this location and the friendly neighborhood as well!!
We stayed for 3+ weeks this summer and enjoyed the house. The location is great, there are plenty of places close by to shop or dine. It is also very easy to get on the highway heading in any direction. The owner was very responsive to our needs. The neighborhood is safe and quiet.
Ricardo was a very accommodating host and responded to any requests. The place was nicely decorated and comfortable. The patio was nice to hang out in . The location was very accessible to the places we wanted to visit.
Ample space in this home. We had four adults and two young children. There is a door to close the sleeping quarters from the main living area/kitchen, so the kids could sleep while the adults enjoyed the evening! Nothing is more than 10 minutes away...a lot is closer. I drove downtown for business during the first couple of days, and later for sightseeing...probably two turns and a few miles and you're there.
The owner was out of town, but had a relative drop by and give us a business card and make sure we were okay - nice personal touch. Everything was great, so we didn't need to contact them anyway.
This is an older property, and you can tell by some components of the renovation. For instance, galvanized piping (plumbing) was retained instead of being updated with modern materials. We drank bottled water as you should probably do in any new city. The actual neighborhood appears to be under development. There are a few run down properties around, but the homes surrounding this place were clean and well cared for. The neighbors were friendly and polite, which is not always the case with vacation rental properties. We had no problems whatsoever.
We enjoyed the furnishings and decorations. Would definitely return to the property.
Hey this place lived upto and beyond our expectations for what we planned. Minor repairs needed (towel hooks falling out of the wall) and the amount of trash piled in the driveway was unacceptable.
This place was perfect for my vacation needs.
It was close by to everything I was looking for, just a short drive (or cab ride) away from food, groceries, multiple golf courses, the Riverwalk, etc..
The owner was incredibly accommodating and friendly and made sure that everything I needed was available to me, and stopped by to introduce himself, which I thought was a nice touch because it puts a face to the names from the emails.
If (or when) I return to San Antonio I would definitely consider using this vacation residence again.
Within walking distance of our Historic neighborhood (Half Mile), lies the affluent City of Olmos Park. Its main street McCullough Ave offers nice restaurant selections and a great and sophisticated neighborhood cafe.
