|Minimum Stay||3 - 6 nights|
One of the most distinctive historic properties in the Finger Lakes, the former White Gazebo Inn B&B, is newly re-opening for weekly vacation rentals for the first time!
The White Gazebo property is home to an original Victorian gazebo built in 1852, as well as a picturesque period barn, sprawling pastures, and quiet woodland privacy. The regal, historic home includes three/four bedrooms, two and a half bathrooms. Private terrace and patio for gathering, picnicing and barbequing, and extensive grounds for walking, or just sitting and sipping wine and enjoying the bounty of the Finger Lakes, or for doing just about anything. Just dream!
The main house is a charming, cozy home with a recent addition for more space and key amenities- a Master Bedroom suite, a cozy family room, a breakfast nook, and a utilities room with a full laundry. The second floor has two bedrooms and a shared bathroom with windows facing the historic gazebo. Large closets. The home comes furnished with sheets, towels and pillows.
Outside- the grounds provide a peaceful relaxing setting. If the Lakes are not keeping you cool enough, an inground pool is here for your swimming enjoyment (Closes last week of August). Tables, lawnchairs and gas BBQ grill are at your fingertips. Take a short hike in our woods to fill your jug with the purest spring water!
The main house and cottage may be rented together; rates shown here are for the main house and grounds use only. However, the cottage may be rented at a sharp discount along with the main house, as we truly wish for our guests to enjoy the full intimacy the property offers- it is its true hallmark. Even if you don't need to sleep two more people, the cottage is useful as a poolhouse changing room, or for lawn picnic/event kitchenette convenience.
Minimum stays may be negotiable depending on booking calendar; please call to inquire. Fall minimum stay is 3 nights.
If the cottage is NOT rented with the main house, guests should be aware that it is possible that the pool area may be shared with cottage guests; driveway and parking do not need to be shared, however, as the cottage has private driveway access.
Please call for seasonal weekly rates on the cottage. It is not generally rented by the night, or for less than three days.
Special requests for reunions, events, weddings, or receptions on the grounds are negotiable with a full property rental fee (House plus cottage). Call for details.
Cornell Graduation and Ithaca weekends are booked for 2015.
I welcome you to my childhood home!... where growing up in one of the best small towns in the country, Trumansburg, provided me fond, lasting memories.
And as you can see, I always took great pride in taking care of the family property- that's me keeping the Gazebo spotless oh so many years ago... Even then, I always knew there was no place like home. Experience our home for yourself and you will agree.
Christine R Swift purchased this estate in 2013
For years, my parents welcomed guests from all over the world into our home as the White Gazebo Inn Bed and Breakfast.
We hosted parents and students from Cornell and Ithaca colleges. Grassroots music fans, international scholars and wine enthusiasts all which enjoyed the welcoming sight of the White gazebo as you drove into Trumansburg.
Growing up here I have fond memories of the many family gatherings of picnics under the trees to celebrating a family wedding in the gazebo. The White Gazebo is Serene, private, and convenient to many of the major attractions of the Finger lakes.
We will help you navigate your way to them with pleasure! After all, we now live elsewhere, and could vacation anywhere, but we choose to come back year after year and spend our precious vacations in the Finger Lakes. You should, too!
Why you will LOVE the Finger Lakes... (And why the White Gazebo is the perfect base for enjoying all the best the region has to offer...
THE WINERIES: (Of Course...)
The White Gazebo is uniquely situated for you to enjoy easy access to both the Cayuga Lake and the Seneca lake wine trails:
The Cayuga Lake wine trail starts one mile from here, and wineries such as Americana (2 miles away) are now places to gather and relax, and enjoy both cuisine and entertainment as well as the fruits of the vine. Seneca lake wineries such as Hazlitt's and Wagner have become popular gathering places for Friday night music on the Terrace and other special events, and are only 10-15 minutes away from the White Gazebo. THE OUTDOORS:
With Taughannock Falls park just one mile away and its miles of hiking trails, lake access, fishing and boating options, there is no end to the outdoor activities you can pursue right here. Additionally, the proximity of the Finger Lakes National Forest to the White Gazebo opens even more possibilities for hiking, fishing, and more. Even Lake access to Seneca is only 15 minutes away! There's Montezuma N.W.R, etc. We love to kayak, bike, and fish, too, and can help you find your way to the activities you desire!
THE REGIONAL FOOD REVOLUTION:
This region is the site of the most dynamic natural, organic and local food revolution anywhere. We can get your started with how you can enjoy the farm market scene, local producers, and soon you'll be out on the grill, cooking up anything you can imagine, all produced and raised within miles of Trumansburg! MUSIC, CULTURE, CRAFT FAIRS AND OTHER EVENTS:
All within easy range of the Gazebo!:
The Grassroots Festival; Ithaca Highland Games; Watkins Glen Italian Fest; Hammondsport Craft Fair.. THE MUSEUMS AND REGIONAL HISTORY:
With the Museum of the Earth just 5 miles away, and the Musuems of Ithaca (ScienceCenter, Johnson Art Museum) only a few minutes further, there's plenty to do even on rainy days!
Our family decided to spend Thanksgiving in New York so our son who is a Cornell student wouldn't have to travel back to California. We were richly rewarded with a wonderful house that was warm, spacious, clean and beautiful. As one of my sons remarked as we came in the door, "This place is great! We can have our first holiday that is like a Norman Rockwell painting!". As we watched the snow fall and create a breathtakingly gorgeous landscape, we enjoyed cooking, doing puzzles, playing games and just being together.
We found wonderful warm quilts on all the beds, and plenty of fresh, fluffy towels in the bathrooms. They even brought me a food processor so I could make some of the food I make at home! The house is decorated in a lovely modern, simple country style (my definition-not necessarily accurate :-).
Christine and her property manager Terri, are extremely kind and responsive and tried to help us with anything we needed.
We all agreed that we would definitely come back again on future visits to Cornell!
I recently rented the White Gazebo Inn from Christine for a Columbus weekend reunion with some cousins from upstate New York. We hadn't seen each other in many years. The White Gazebo was such a perfect place for this reunion. The house was spotless, well appointed, cozy, roomy and just wonderful in every way. My cousins remarked countless times over the weekend how beautiful the house was and how happy they were that we were able to rent it for the weekend. We felt very lucky to have found it at all as most places in the fingerlakes were booked for the holiday weekend. We had a whole herd of deer come out into the backyard one night and we all sat on the patio watching the deer and enjoying the view and each others company.
We will definitely be coming back in the future! Perfect place!
Wonderful family vacation week spent here. The house was spotless when we arrived. It was so nice to have the family room and living room to use for game nights. The large eat in kitchen was roomy, but since our weather was so nice, most of our meals were outside on the covered patio that had furniture for 10 or more to sit. The grandchildren loved playing in the huge backyard, and it made a great bocce ball court. The location was close to shops and a grocery store; as well as wineries, breweries, parks, waterfalls and numerous attractions. Ithaca Brewing Company is a fun place to go, definitely hike to any waterfalls in the area, Watkins Glen area near Seneca Lake is a nice town and there is waterfront eating there. Downtown Ithaca is under some construction, but will be a nice shopping destination next year. By far this is the cleanest and most nicely kept home we have stayed in using VRBO. Thank you to Chris and Christine for keeping this historic home so nice, I can't possibly say all the nice things about the house that our family thought made our week so special.
the house was great. we had deer walking around the whole time we were there. one day while we sitting outside on the patio a deer came up and sat down by the pool and stayed there the whole time all in all a great experience.
We gathered a number of family members from near and far—from Boston to Kansas to Brooklyn—and returned to the Finger Lakes this year. We were so lucky to find the White Gazebo in Trumansburg. The home is spacious, gracious and welcoming with enough living space and private areas to accommodate our diverse-age family group (81 years to 15 months). The lovely side porch is a spectacular extra room with generous proportions, lovely seating arrangements and a view over the expansive yard toward the pool. Deer joined us many evenings and early mornings and the motion-activated sensor, designed to discourage deer from eating the flowers, proved to be a delightful distraction for our toddlers and dog who loved to set it off! The porch was the setting for family breakfasts and dinners and for afternoon reading and relaxing.
The flexibility of the room arrangements meant we could accommodate our family quite easily. Fortunately we had relatives in the area who could handle our spill over but the White Gazebo was the gathering place for meals and hanging out.
The kitchen is well equipped with cooking paraphernalia and enough plates and silverware to feed a group. The two dining rooms and two living rooms allowed everyone to have some private space for reading, puzzles, games or toddler corralling. The beds were comfortable and the 2.5 baths plenty to accommodate us. The master bedroom suite is truly luxurious.
The Finger Lakes area has so much to offer. The family had a wonderful hike to Taughannock Falls and spent lovely afternoons at the lake which has good changing facilities, shade, picnic tables and a playground. Shopping for food for the large family was easy with ShurSave less than a mile away. But the real prize was the vegetables at Countryside Market down the road in Interlaken which has fresh vegetables and interesting local food products. Wednesday evening from 5pm to 8 pm, Trumansburg has a farmer’s market with food trucks and stands. Good place to buy veggies but also go grab a quick dinner. Trumansburg has a number of interesting restaurants. We were eager to try them but had such eclectic tastes and young children that we took turns cooking and enjoying the White Gazebo porch and two dining rooms for family meals.
We loved our time at the White Gazebo and would love to return.
There are way too many good things to say about staying at the White Gazebo.
Context: I and my group of six other adults were staying there in conjunction with the Finger Lakes Paddle Fest, which is a sea kayaking and SUP skills symposium that I run in conjunction with local outfitter Paddle-N-More. I wanted to have the house as a group living arrangement because it fosters a great sense of comraderie when symposium participants live together. That end was definitely accomplished and a big part of it was the quality of this property. The symposium was held at Taughannock Falls State Park and the White Gazebo was conveniently located just five minutes from the park.
The house itself is fascinating and a little quirky (in a totally god way!), with interesting rooms and all kinds of space. There are wonderful photos and decorations throughout the house, including a gigantic hanging and yellowed wall map of the area that seems to be about 100 years old. The whole house feels warm and very homey. It was very clean and the owner arranged the bedroom configurations based on what we needed. The bedrooms were quiet and nicely furnished. All the necessary utensils, bowls, and food preparation stuff was available in the comfortable (and sufficiently spacious) kitchen. The outside covered patio (with grill) was wonderful for entertaining the 25 Paddle Fest participants and instructors who came over for a Saturday night pot luck dinner.
The photos in the listing don't really do the place justice - it is much more charming than what the pix can communicate.
Then there is the setting. The grounds of the property boast a large lawn area with nicely landscaped gardens and the yard is ringed by woods on three sides. The old wooden barn is charming and interesting (I wanted to figure out a way to get inside.) Then there is the white gazebo itself which jumps out at you no matter where you are in the yard. It was a focal point. How many people do you know that have a giant gazebo? Very cool.
Trumansburg itself is a quaint and charming little town with some good restaurants. Ithaca is a short 15 minute drive away.
In making the arrangements, I dealt exclusively with Chris (one of the owners) and he was very easy to work with and quite good with maintaining communication and answering questions.
I would recommend this property in a minute to friends and relatives and plan to use it when we return for next year's Finger Lakes Paddle Fest.
The first Winery on the Cayuga Wine Trail (west side) is one mile away!
Taughannock State Park is less than 2 miles away, with full access to Cayuga Lake: Canoe and Kayak rentals available there, with no transport required to put in, a swimming area, boat ramps, fishing sites, and hiking trails to the world famous Taughannock Falls.
