|Minimum Stay||2 - 4 nights|
This charming four-bedroom oceanfront Otter Rock vacation home sits atop a secluded bluff on the Oregon Coast. From the deck, you'll have beautiful views of the shore and the waves rolling into the beach, as well as ample opportunities to breathe in fresh ocean air, watch a dramatic winter storm roll in, or just relax at this peaceful beach getaway. Perfect for family vacations or a quick weekend trip to the coast, this quiet home is near the Devil's Punchbowl State Natural Area, just south of Depoe Bay and Lincoln City. The beach path starts at the end of the driveway.
Inside, there's an open area with the living room, dining table, and kitchen sharing a large, bright space with tile floors and wood-paneled walls. The comfortable sofa is the perfect place to lounge after a day of beachcombing or hiking the region's natural areas, plus you'll have a wood-burning stove to keep the room all toasty while you watch cable or a DVD.
Meals can be eaten with a view at a large table with room for up to eight. And if you need extra space, there you can pull up a couple of stools to the breakfast bar. In the kitchen, there's plenty of counter space for your culinary creations, be it BLTs and soup for lunch or pan roasted salmon for dinner. And although there is not a dishwasher, when everyone works together to clean up after dinner, it's a snap to get everything washed, dried, and put away.
After dinner, pour a glass of wine and head out to the deck for an amazing sunset view. Out here there's deck furniture for observing the view comfortably. Not just for the summer, in the winter you can watch winter storms from the cozy comfort of the living room, or take a quick peek from the deck before returning inside to sit in front of the fire.
On the upper level, you'll find a bedroom with a king bed and one with a double bed and two trundle beds. The king bedroom even has deck access with more of those million dollar ocean views. In the morning, the deck is a great place for hot coffee, yoga stretching, or just using the WiFi to read emails. The other upstairs bedroom's double bed and twin trundle bed is great for kids to share!
On the main level, two more bedrooms hold a queen bed and writing desk in one room and another twin trundle bed and sofa in the other, with a shared bathroom for both. There are also many games, a stereo, and another TV in the trundle room, making it another great kids' space. This home will comfortably sleep 10 guests. In addition, you'll find a laundry room with a full sized washer and dryer for keeping clothes clean and dry while on vacation.
Just north of the house, the Marine Garden at Otter Rock can be accessed by a gravel trail down from the Devil's Punchbowl State Natural Area. This is a popular recreation area complete with intertidal habitats, seabird colonies, and frequently, harbor seal visitors. Most days, artists can be found sketching and painting the views and landscape. The long sandy beach can be walked, while you explore tide pools up close. Several interpretive panels on the walk down will enhance your learning experience as you explore this amazing natural area.
On a rainy day, you may want to plan a day trip to Newport, just 10 minutes south. Here, you'll find a bustling bayfront downtown, restaurants like Local Ocean for fresh seafood with inventive preparations, galleries, and across the iconic Yaquina Bay Bride, the Oregon Coast Aquarium. Before heading back to Otter Rock, make a stop at Rogue Ales Brewer's on the Bay where you can take a brewery tour, sample 40 taps, and nosh on plates of Buffalo chips, burgers, and fish tacos.
On night's you don't feel like cooking, right in Otter Rock there's even an outpost of Mo's Restaurants - Mo's West. Open seasonally, this is the place for bowls of famous clam chowder and fish and chips. Whether you visit in high season, or plan your getaway for a wet, windy weekend, this Otter Creek vacation retreat will feel like home!

The view from the deck is actually better than is seen online. The setting is also very gorgeous as there really isn't anyone close by. The trail is easily accessible down to the beach so makes it very convenient to use a beautiful beach.
We had a great time and love the area.
Wonderful views from decks w/ lots of room on the main deck.
Great exercise hiking up from the beach.
The house is like an old family cabin. Great feel of wilderness & ready to use for a family/group at the beach. We found it a bit "untidy" but still a practical house for the beach.
The beach is a short walk down the driveway and it is beautiful once you get down there. We had a wonderful time at this house Newport is a short drive with lots of fun things to do. I am a little tall so the mirror level in the upstairs bathroom was a tad low and the lighting is not very bright. Bring a few candles, it is an older home but once the windows are open for a minute and a few candles going its fine.
It pains me to have to write this review as I have never written a negative one before about a vacation rental or the company managing it. Reading other reviews left me excited to stay here and felt we had found our diamond in the rough...but that was not the case!
I will start with the positive side...wonderful location and incredible view from the deck and front windows, as well as close to Newport and all it has to offer. It is also a short drive to L.C.
But there is where it ends...the stench from the house was so bad we had to have the windows open all day while we were out just to be able to sleep at night. I was told this "musty" smell is normal for "older" beach houses in wooded areas...I assure you it is not! There was black mold and water damage around almost every window in the house with the exception of the master bedroom and the front room. The pull out couch in one of the bedrooms had black mold on the mattress and we had to make other arrangements for our children to sleep. The house was dirty and cobwebs filled the corners. Our multiple attempts of contacting the management team during our stay and after were untimely and unsatisfactory. I was told the house is "habitable." And to think I paid for this!!
Cedar House has an unbelievable view of the Pacific Ocean, you will be pleasantly surprised. The house is well equipped with anything you will need to make a meal for everyone. This house is very private setting, the walk to the beach is not bad, but is a bit treacherous at certain areas. The beach is beautiful and you can walk a long way. Wonderful area, we will be back in the future.
The accommodations at Cedar House at Otter Rock for our family reunion were excellent. Our party of nine, including a toddler, was also well satisfied with the with the location providing quick foot access to the beach and automobile access to many other points of interest on the the coast. We will definitely consider Cedar House for another stay.
