ABOUT THE ISLAND:
Palm Island is one of the last best kept secrets on the Gulf of Mexico. It is only accessible by boat, with one to two ferry’s running generous hours daily for both cars and pedestrians. Check out the ferry details at: http://www.palmislandtransit.com/. Palm Island is near Englewood, Florida and just north of Boca Grande. Fly into Sarasota, Fort Myers, Punta Gorda or Tampa. The island is seven miles long with plenty of clean sandy beaches and great shelling and shark teeth and the Don Pedro Nature Preserve.
Many years ago, there were three different islands...Knight Island to the north (known as Palm Island), Don Pedro Island in the middle and Little Gasparilla to the south. Years ago, the passes between each one closed up and they became one island, sharing the 7 mile beach. Don Pedro and Palm Island are often referred to interchangeably.
Life on the island is exactly what one dreams about when they think of island life—relaxed, laid back, quiet, subdued, and yet just a quick hop on the ferry to enter the “real world.” There are only about 200 homes on the island—no high rises, causeways, busy roads, street lights, etc. The air is clean; there are few cars, no hustle and bustle from busy roads. Routinely you will hear the buzz of a golf cart, or the crunch of shells beneath bicycle tires. That’s how most people get around the island. All of this is what makes the island extra special, very safe and calm.
The beach is just a few minutes away, whether on foot, bike or golf cart, with rental available on the island. The seven mile long beach is the ultimate for sunrises, sunsets and an abundance of wildlife and shelling. There is one island restaurant and a small store to purchase minimal supplies and fresh fish and meat. Rent kayaks, boats, bicycles, or charter a fishing trip. Enjoy many restaurants, golf courses, and shopping on the mainland. Don’t be surprised to see manatees, tortoise, exotic birds, dolphins and any number of fish on your adventure. You will not forget your stay at Luna Dunes and making island memories! Come experience our little secret.
We had a great time at Palm Island - Luna Dunes. The weather was perfect and it was very relaxing for our family. The house was very clean when we arrived as was expected per the pictures. The pool was a hit with the kids as well as the private road in front of the house they could ride their bikes on and go exploring. I enjoyed the private boat dock with direct access to the Inter-Coastal. The beach chairs were a huge hit for the adults! There were plenty of kitchen utensils and so forth for preparing meals. The grill worked well and we used it almost every night. All in all, we had a great time and the house was very nice and accommodating for our trip.
